THIS EXPERIENCE STARTED WITH OUR COMMON SCHEDULE AND THE CHALLENGE TO OUR JUNIOR HIGHS TO THINK ABOUT NEW COURSES. COURSES THAT PROMOTE CRITICAL THINKING, TEAMWORK, AND PROBLEM-SOLVING.

AS RESULT WITH SOME VISIONARY TEACHERS, STUDENTS ACROSS OUR DISTRICT ARE EXPLORING INNOVATION AS EMILY ABBOTT SAYS ONE BRICK AT A TIME THROUGH OUR NEW ROBOTICS ELECTIVE. THE ELECTIVE IS OFFERED AT ALL JUNIOR HIGHS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LEGO EDUCATION, AND THIS HANDS-ON COURSE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO DIVE DEEPLY INTO ENGINEERING, CODING, DESIGN THINKING, USING LEGOS SPIKE PRIME KITS, WHICH ARE SO MUCH FUN AND COOL. THIS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT SOME IMPRESSIVE PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION AND CREATIVITY FROM OUR TEACHERS OF THIS COURSE. CO VILLANYI, SETH ZOOK, CHRISTOPHER HAMON, AND ERIC AROUND. LET'S GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE APPEAR IN THE FRONT.

THEY ATTENDED A SUMMER INSTITUTE TOGETHER AND HAVE COMPLETED SPECIALIZED TRAINING THROUGH LEGO EDUCATION TO REALLY ENSURE THAT WE HAVE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION ALIGNED THE ACADEMIC STANDARDS. IN THE LESSONS THAT I'VE SEEN THE STUDENTS COLLABORATE, THEY BUILD, THEY PROGRAM ROBOT MODELS AND THEY PERFORM REAL-WORLD TASKS. THEY DEVELOP TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND THESE SKILLS CONNECT DIRECTLY WITH FUTURE CAREERS, CAREERS AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING, AND COMPUTER SCIENCE. THE PROGRAM ALSO SUPPORTS OUR DISTRICT VISION OF JOURNEY OF THE STUDENT BY PROVIDING THOSE LEARNING EXPERIENCE THAT TRULY DO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THEIR WORLD AND SHAPE THEIR, THEIR FUTURE. I VISITED THE CLASSROOMS TO SEE IT IN ACTION, AND I COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED AND PLEASED AT THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE THAT THEY HAVE CREATED, BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. EMILY HAS CREATED A VIDEO TO HELP YOU SEE IT IN ACTION.

EACH BUILD CHALLENGED THEM TO APPLY CRITICAL THINKING AND TECHNICAL SKILLS WHILE CONNECTING THEIR LEARNING TO THE GROWING CAREER FIELDS OF ADVANCED MANUFACTURING, ENGINEERING, AND COMPUTER SCIENCE IN CENTRAL INDIANA. TO BRING THIS TO LIFE, HST ROBOTICS TEACHERS WORKED DIRECTLY WITH LEGO EDUCATION

MY OLDEST DAUGHTER IS A FIRST GRADER ATTENDING ELEMENTARY WITH MY YOUNGEST SCHEDULED TO ATTEND KINDERGARTEN NEXT FALL. I'LL USE MY TIME TO DISCUSS REDISTRICTING, SPECIFICALLY GUIST ELEMENTARY. THIS IS ALL A RESULT OF MASSIVE GROWTH FOR FISHERS, BUT POOR PLANNING IN THE PROCESS. WE ARE GROWING EAST, BUT FOCUSING A SHIFT TO A SCHOOL LOCATED DOWNTOWN OR SIGNIFICANTLY WEST OF THE GROWTH AND WHILE I'M HERE SELFISHLY FOR JUST MY DAUGHTERS, I AM SURE I'M SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF MANY IN THIS ROOM. IN OCTOBER, OPTIONS TWO, THREE, AND FOUR ARE PROPOSED FOR THE GUIST ELEMENTARY BOUNDARIES, ALL OF WHICH INCLUDED THE SAME SECTION OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS. FEEDBACK WAS REQUESTED AT THAT TIME, IN THIS SECTION OF NEIGHBORHOOD, WHICH IS BETWEEN 96, 104TH, OLIO ROAD, AND GUIST AS A NORTH BORDER. A RECTANGLE, IF YOU WILL. FEEDBACK WAS REQUESTED THE SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY. I'M SORRY. SHE WAS WORRIED ABOUT HER FRIEND THAT WERE POSSIBLY MOVING OUT OF THE DISTRICT, AND ASKING IF WE WERE MOVING BECAUSE OF IT. AFTER REVIEWING THE THREE PROPOSED OPTIONS, WE REASSURED HER THAT WE WERE NOT AFFECTED BY THE CHANGE, TO WHICH SHE RESPONDED, MAKES SENSE. WE'RE SO CLOSE, WE CAN WALK TO OUR SCHOOL. HOWEVER, THE LATEST RECOMMENDED BORDERS RELEASED JUST LAST NIGHT NOW SPLIT THE NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WE LIVE IN AND THROUGH STREET, DIVIDING PARTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AT CANAL PLACE AND BROOKS MANOR. THIS MEANS NEIGHBORS LIVING SIDE-BY-SIDE ON THE SAME STREET WILL BE PLACED IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS. AS HOMEOWNERS, WE WERE NOT PART OF ANY PRIOR PROPOSED CHANGES, BECAUSE WE WERE IN AN AREA FOR OPTIONS, TWO, THREE MAC, AND FOUR THAT WERE NOT CHANGED. AND NOW THIS NEW FEEDBACK, THIS NEW PROPOSED RECOMMENDATION WILL SPLIT US. THE MONTHS OF COMMUNITY INPUT WERE BASED ON THREE, THOSE THREE OPTIONS, NONE OF WHICH SPLIT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. LOOKING AT THE CURRENT PROPOSED BOUNDARIES, THE NORTHWEST POINT OF THE DISTRICT FOLLOWS THE LAKE AS A BOUNDARY. THE SOUTHERN BOUNDARY FOLLOWS 96 STREET. THE WESTERN BOUNDARY FOLLOWS THE LAKE AND KEEPS THOSE COMMUNITIES INTACT, AND THE EASTERN BOUNDARY FOLLOWS MAIN ROADS, AND INCLUDES ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS. THE ONLY PORTION OF THE NEW RECOMMENDED MAP THAT DOES NOT FOLLOW A LOGICAL OR NATURAL DIVISIONS IS THIS SMALL SECTION OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND BROOKS LANDING.

NOW THE ENROLLMENT IMPACT, CHECKING MY TIME, ENROLLMENT IMPACT GUIST ELEMENTARY 598 STUDENT PROPOSED IS 574 PUTS 85% CAPACITY. THE BUILDING HOLDS 67, 675 STUDENTS. THE NEIGHBORHOODS THAT EXCLUDED WAS ROUGHLY 170 HOMES AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE YIELD BASED ON MANY OF THE OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS, IT'S ABOUT 20%, WHICH WOULD BE 34 ELEMENTARY STUDENTS. THAT DOES NOT CHANGE THE CAPACITY BASED ON THAT NEIGHBORHOOD ALONE. PLEASE DO NOT SPLIT THIS NEIGHBORHOOD. I UNDERSTAND THERE'S MANY FAMILIES HERE THAT ARE BEING AFFECTED, BUT THERE SHOULD BE

RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE COMPUTER FOUNDATIONS IN EIGHTH GRADE, WHICH IS ANOTHER REQUIRED HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT SEMESTER CLASS. WHAT WE'RE PROPOSING IS MOVING PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SO PE ONE, INTO THE EIGHTH GRADE AND GET THAT SECOND CREDIT, SO THEN THEY WOULD ACCOMPLISH THAT IN

EIGHTH RATE. >> THAT I MIGHT BE ASKING AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM QUESTION. WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CLASSES THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN HIGH SCHOOL? AND SO WE'RE DOING A LOT MORE LIFELONG FITNESS, ELECTIVES PE COURSES. AND SO THAT'S BEEN DEVELOPED THAT BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS AND TALKING TO TEACHERS, THAT'S THEIR FOCUS. IN ADDITION, WE'RE BRINGING IN EXERCISE SCIENCE AS A CTE PATHWAY AS WELL, WHICH A LOT OF STUDENTS ARE INTERESTED IN. SO MANY OF OUR TEACHERS WOULD QUALIFY AS WELL. DEFINITELY EXPANDED, BECAUSE BEFORE, A LOT OF FRESHMEN COULDN'T GO INTO THE WEIGHT ROOM RIGHT AWAY. THEY HAD TO HAVE THAT PE CREDIT FIRST OF THE PRE-REQ. THEY WENT RIGHT INTO THE ADVANCED WEIGHTS RIGHT NOW.

ALL, WE HAD OUR FIRST EVER HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AS THEY DEFEATED CARMEL IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. FROM THAT TEAM, BLAIR SATTERFIELD WAS NAMED THE TERESA WINS MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD WINNER FOR CLASS THREE A, AND LATER THAT NEXT WEEK, OUR HEAD COACH GREG DAVIDSON WAS NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR FOR IIIA ACROSS THE STATE OF INDIANA. YES. THANK YOU. WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND THE CITY OF USHERS FOR THE TEACHER GRANT AWARDS THAT THEY'VE MADE OVER THE LAST THREE WEEKS. JUST ONCE AGAIN, THE GREAT PARTNERSHIP TO GIVE OUR KIDS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE CLASSROOM AND THE DOLLARS THAT THEY RAISE TO INVEST IN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM. SO THANKS TO BOTH HSE EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND THE CITY OF USHERS. WE HAD 13 OF OUR SCHOOLS DESIGNATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AS PURPLE STAR SCHOOLS, SERVING MILITARY FAMILIES AND SUPPORTING MILITARY FAMILIES WHO LIVE WITHIN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. WE HOPE TO HAVE MORE ADDED TO THAT LIST, BUT THAT WAS ONE OF THE GOALS THAT WE HAD WAS TO START MAKING CERTAIN WE HAD THAT PURPLE STAR DESIGNATION, SO WANT TO CONGRATULATE THOSE 13 SCHOOLS. ANOTHER UNIQUE THING, MIKE JOHNSON, OUR SCHOOL SAFETY OFFICER, HAD THE FIRST EVER STUDENT SCHOOL SAFETY COMMITTEE.

AND, IN THIS ROOM A FEW WEEKS AGO, WE, WE BROUGHT OUR STUDENTS IN TO GET THE PERSPECTIVE OF RULE SAFETY, WHY THEY FEEL SAFE, THINGS THAT THEY HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT, AND THAT COMMITTEE WILL CONTINUE AND BE PART OF BUILDING OUR OVERALL SCHOOL SAFETY PLAN.

LAST THING WAS TODAY AT, AT, ACTUALLY, AT HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN HIGH SCHOOL, BOTH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED FRESHMAN CLASS IN A CAREER FAIR.
