FIRST TIME EVER. SO THE STUDENTS HAD THREE WEEKS. SMALL GROUP OF JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS WHO WORKED ALONGSIDE VOLUNTEER CHEFS WHO SHARE THEIR EXPERTISE, THEIR SIGNATURE RECIPES. THE STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED INGREDIENTS AND MENTOR SHIP AND IT HELPED THEM PREPARE FOR A FINAL COMPETITION WHERE THEY CREATED AN ENTRÉE AND PRESENTED IT TO A DISTINGUISHED PANEL OF JUDGES, INCLUDING PRINCIPAL, WHO WOULD NOT PASS UP THAT OPPORTUNITY TO SAMPLE THE FOOD. HE IS HERE TO SUPPORT HIS STUDENTS AND HIS SCHOOL TONIGHT.

WE ARE ESPECIALLY PROUD TO HONOR THE INAUGURAL COMPETITION WINNER WHO IMPRESSED THE JUDGES WITH HER DISH, A TRADITIONAL VIETNAMESE SAVORY PANCAKE. TU-HUNG CHOSE THIS TO SHARE WITH THE JUDGES. HER CREATIVITY AND HER PRESENTATION CERTAINLY STOOD OUT . THE JUDGES SAID IT WAS A NICE TWIST ON A HEALTHY MEAL.

SHE WAS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT HER DISH. AS FAR AS SCORING, SHE SCORED PERFECT ON HER INGREDIENTS. SHE ALSO SCORED HIGHEST IN HER PRESENTATION IN CREATIVITY OF HER DESK. TU-HUNG IS A VERY INVOLVED STUDENT AT FISHER JUNIOR HIGH, AND PART OF THE WE THE PEOPLE TEAM. BEFORE WE RECOGNIZE HER, WE WANT TO SHOW YOU A VIDEO TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE IN.

IT WAS ALL A PART OF THE SHOWDOWN. HAMILTON'S FIRST-EVER STUDENT COOKING COMPETITION. FOR THREE WEEKS, THIS GROUP OF STUDENTS TEAMED UP WITH LOCAL CHEFS WHO SHARE RECIPES, EXPERT TECHNIQUES, AND PLENTY OF KITCHEN WISDOM.

TEACHERS TIME IS ALREADY STRETCHED TO THE MAX IN MY EXPERIENCE OF A PARENT OF 18 WHO IS ABOUT TO FINISH EIGHTH GRADE. I DO NOT READ ABOUT ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDS OR STAFFING ASSISTANCE. LIFE LICE, ACADEMY IS PUSHING THEM INTO SURROUNDING SCHOOLS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ORGANIZATION FULL OF HATE AND BULLYING, NOT ONLY WILL THIS PROGRAM BE DISRUPTIVE TO THE SCHOOL DAY BUT IT WILL INTERFERE WITH LEARNING FOR STUDENTS AND MAKE MORE WORK FOR OUR ALREADY OVERWORKED TEACHERS.

LIFEWISE IS BACKED BY START -- MOMS FOR LIBERTY. THE ONES WHO QUOTED HITLER. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS ORGANIZATION FOR A WHILE. IT NEEDS TO BE MADE CLEAR IN THE HANDBOOK THAT IF THIS PROGRAM IS ALLOWED, PARENTS NEED TO BE INFORMED THAT THIS WILL DISRUPT THEIR STUDENTS EDUCATION AND THAT TEACHERS AT LIFELIKE YOU HAVE TO PASS A BASIC BACKGROUND CHECK. IN A PREVIOUS MEETING, I WROTE ON THE DIFFERENCE IN COST. THE DIFFERENCE WAS -- THE DIFFERENCE THEN WAS OVER $2 MILLION. THE SALARY CHOICES YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR. THIS ADMINISTRATION WAS OVER $13 MILLION AT THE END OF LAST YEAR.

TONIGHT, THERE ARE TWO MORE NEWLY CREATED POSITIONS FOR CENTRAL OFFICE ON THE PERSONNEL REPORT. ONE OF THESE POSITIONS COMBINED WITH THE ASSISTANCE SUPER ROLE TOTALED WELL OVER $250,000, AND THAT IS BEFORE YOU CALCULATE BENEFITS INTO THE COST. WE KNOW, THANKS TO OUR SUPERINTENDENT REACHING OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY, THAT OUR DISTRICT IS GOING TO LOSE TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS DUE TO THE STATE BUDGET THAT WAS PASSED. YOU MAY NOT REALIZE THOU -- YOU MAY NOT REALIZE THAT THOUGH BECAUSE YOU WERE WORKING SO HARD TO POLITICIZE OUR SCHOOL BOARD RACES AND STEAD. AFTER HEARING THAT OUR DISTRICT WAS SUPPOSEDLY STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY, SO MUCH THAT OUR TEACHERS RAISES WERE CAUSING CONSTERNATION FOR THE ADMINISTRATION, IT IS MIND BLOWING THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE TO TO UPLOAD OUR DISTRICT AFTER COMPLETELY CLEARING OUT THE ADMIN TEAM YOU THOUGHT WAS TOO HEAVY. THE MOST IMPORTANT EMPLOYEES THIS DISTRICT HAS ARE THE ONES IN THE SCHOOLS, IN THE CLASSROOMS, AND DRIVING OUR BUSES. DO NOT COME TO OUR TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF AND SAY WE HAVE TO LET ANY OF THEM GO. INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN OUR CLASSROOMS OR MOVE THEM TO A DIFFERENT AREA OF EDUCATION. YOU HAVE DISRESPECTED THEM FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS NEEDLESSLY.

AND THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO SETTLE THE ULPS. IT IS RIDICULOUS YOU ARE THE COST BEHIND THE ULPS NEXT YEAR. OUR BOARD LEADERSHIP IS A BREACH OF CONTRACT BASED ON THE APRIL 30TH DEADLINE TO REVIEW AND THEN DISCUSS A CONTRACT EXTENSION WITH OUR SUPER. THIS MERGER IS HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC SINCE THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF AN ELEMENTARY STUDENT ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. MY FIVE-YEAR-OLD ONCE THE MOST OVERSTIMULATING BRING CANDY HE CAN ACCESS ON ANY SCREEN. IN OTHER WORDS, HE HAS NO WAY TO PROVIDE INFORMED CONSENT AND I DEFINITELY DO NOT SUPPLY THAT FOR HIM . WHEN I ASKED ADMINISTRATORS ABOUT THE NEED FOR IPADS, THEY POINT TO THE NWT TESTING STUDENTS WILL DO ON IPADS. TEST PREP IS LOW ON MY PRIORITY LIST AS A PARENT. ESPECIALLY SINCE IPADS ARE SO INTUITIVE, EVEN NINE-MONTH-OLDS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATE THEM. FOR MY MONEY, THERE ARE VERY FEW EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES THAT ELEMENTARY STUDENTS COULD DO ON IPADS THAT WOULD RESULT IN GREATER HANDS-ON LEARNING THAN ANY ACTIVITY.

PARENTS KNOW THEIR CHILDREN BEST, SO I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO KEEP THE IPAD OPT OUT POLICY IN PLACE. IN A STATE WHERE VOUCHERS ARE BASICALLY UNIVERSAL AND HOMESCHOOL IS THE FASTEST-GROWING SEGMENT OF EDUCATION NATIONWIDE, PARENTS WANT MORE SAY IN WHAT TECH AND CONTENT THEIR CHILDREN CONSUME, NOT LESS. IF THEY CAN'T ACCESS A LOW-TECH OPTION IN OUR DISTRICT, THEY COULD VERY EASILY TAKE TAX DOLLARS ELSEWHERE. I UNDERSTAND THIS MAY CAUSE A BURDEN TO TEACHER WORKLOAD, BUT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS JUST ANOTHER INSTRUCTION WHERE ONE CHILD MAY PREFER TECH AND AUDIOBOOKS FOR LEARNING, MINE MAY NOT. THE OPT OUT OPTION ALLOWS FOR BOTH TO ACCESS.

OUR SCHOOLS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THE WHOLE -- EXCUSE ME -- THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR CHILDREN BY ENGAGING THEM IN THE REAL WORLD. THIS IS THE JOB OF PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND COMMUNITIES. NOT IPADS. TECHNOLOGY ABSOLUTELY HAS ITS PLACE. IT IS USED FOR THOSE WITH LEARNING DIFFERENCES OR TEACHING SKILLS THAT CANNOT BE LEARNED ON PEN AND PAPER BUT I HAVE YET TO HEAR OF A UNIQUE SKILL THAT REQUIRES EVERY SINGLE FIVE-YEAR-OLD TO USE AN IPAD. I JUST WANTED TO START A CONVERSATION ON HOW SCHOOLS EVALUATE USE OF SCREEN TIME. I KNOW CHANGE TAKES TIME. I AM WILLING TO PUT IN THAT TIME. I HAVE ASKED FOR A BREAKDOWN OF DUTIES ON SOME OF THOSE POSITIONS AND JUSTIFICATIONS FOR THIS INCREASE. PARTICULARLY ON HOW IT SUPPORTS OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STUDENT OUTCOMES.
