AS A REMINDER, OUR FAMILY MOVED HERE OVER NINE YEARS AGO.
WE COULD HAVE LIVED ANYWHERE IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA AND WE CHOSE FISHERS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SCHOOLS IN THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOL DISTRICT. THIS WAS INTENTIONAL AS OUR THEN ALMOST 4-YEAR- OLD WOULD LIVE OUT HER K- 12 EDUCATION HERE. SHE ATTENDED HOOSIER ROAD ELEMENTARY WHICH WAS A DREAM.
HOWEVER, AS A FOURTH GRADER, AS IT WAS ENDING, IN THE MIDST OF COVID, WE REALIZED THATTHAT WE GOING TO RIVERSIDE INTERMEDIATE. OUR DAUGHTER WOULD GO FROM BEING THE THE CLOSEST TO THE SCHOOL TO THE FURTHEST.
HER FRIEND GROUP WAS DISTRICTED TO SAND CREEK INTERMEDIATE LESS THAN TWO MILE FROM OUR HOUSE. AT THAT TIME, UP UNTIL THIS POINT, WE'VE HAD THE OPTION TO COMPLETE A TRANSFER APPEAL EVERY YEAR. BLESSEDLY, SHE WAS ABLE TO ATTEND BOTH FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADES AT SAND CREEK INTERMEDIATE AND SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE AT FISHERS JUNIOR HIGH.
THIS MADE THE MOST SENSE FOR OUR FAMILY AND WE ARE PRIVILEGED TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL. I RECOGNIZE THIS IS NOT AN OPTION FOR EVERY FAMILY. ALSO, I UNDERSTAND THAT RIVERSIDE INTERMEDIATE IS AMAZING.
THE REASONS FOR APPEALING TO ATTEND A CLOSER IN PROXIMITY SCHOOL HAD TO DO WITH JUST THAT.
DRIVING DISTANCE IN THE OH, SO IMPORTANT FRIEND GROUP DURING AND AFTER THE COVID YEARS.
AS OUR DAUGHTER TRANSITIONS TO HIGH SCHOOL NEXT YEAR, WE COMPLETED THE FRESHMAN CHOICE.
AGAIN WE CLOSE THE SCHOOL LESS THAN A MILE FROM OUR HOUSE. ALL OF THIS IS TO SAY THAT THE MORE WE LEARN ABOUT ACCEPTING OUT OF DISTRICT TRANSFER STUDENTS, THE MORE I QUESTION THE SEEMINGLY SWIFT REMOVAL OF THE TRANSFER APPEAL PROCESS. HE WAS SELECTED AS THE STATEWIDE MASS MEDIA TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND WILL REPRESENT OUR WHOLE STATE AS HE DOES AN OUTSTANDING JOB WITH OUR MASS MEDIA STUDENTS IN THAT BUILDING.

AND THEN AS EVERYONE KNOWS, IT IS THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AT THIS TIME. A LOT OF ACTION IS GOING ON AT THE STATE HOUSE. AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS TO WATCH SENATE BILL 1 AS THAT PROPERTY TAX RELIEF DOES HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT UPON OUR SCHOOLS.
THEY HAVE REVISIONS. BEFORE WE HAVE THE NEXT MEETING, THOSE BILLS WILL LEAVE ONE CHAMBER AND GO TO THE NEXT.
