EXTENT OF OUR ACTION ITEMS. WE WILL NOW ADJOURN THE MEETING . WE WILL BE MOVING ON TO THE WORK SESSION. WE WELCOME EVERYONE TO TONIGHT'S WORK SESSION WHERE WE WILL BE

[2. Information Items]

RECEIVING AN UPDATE ON THE FORD NGL AND WE WILL TURN IT OVER TO STEVE FOR HIS

PRESENTATION. >> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING . THE PURPOSE OF OUR TIME THIS EVENING IS TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN OCCURRING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS WITH THE SUPPORT OF FORD NEXT GENERATION LEARNING. I WAS LAST BEFORE YOU ON OCTOBER 25TH, THE DAY AFTER AND VISION DAY ONE. THAT'S THE FIRST DAY WE REALLY BROUGHT THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO START THE VOICE IN TO THIS PROCESS AND I PROVIDED THE ACADEMIC UPDATE AT THAT TIME. QUITE A BIT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED SINCE I LAST SPOKE TO YOU. I'M JOINED TONIGHT BY TWO MEMBERS OF OUR TRANCE PERFECT -- TRANSFORMATION TEAM. MS. THOMAS ATTENDED A FORD NEXT GENERATION LEARNING STUDY VISIT TO THE AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND MRS. BROWN ATTENDED A FORD NEXT-GENERATION STUDY VISIT TO METRO NASHVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN TENNESSEE.

THEY WILL BE SHARING THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH YOU TONIGHT. SO, JUST A REMINDER OF WHERE WE ARE IN THIS PROCESS. THE PLANNING PROCESS THAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH WITH FORD IS TECHNICALLY A FIVE-YEAR PROCESS AND WE ARE IN THAT MASTER PLANNING PROCESS SO WE'VE GONE THROUGH EXPLORING WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE'VE BROUGHT IN THE COMMUNITY VOICE AND A COUPLE OF INVISION DAYS TO REALLY LIGHT AND I WILL BE SHARING SOME OF THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS CREATED THROUGH THAT PROCESS AND NOW WE ARE CURRENTLY IN MASTER PLANNING AND REALLY WHAT THAT IS, AS WE ARE GOING TO THIS SUMMER , WRITE DOWN WHAT WE ARE GOING TO EXECUTE IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT AS WE MOVE INTO IMPLEMENTATION. THE GOALS AND THE THINGS THAT WILL COME IN THAT DOCUMENT ARE REALLY THE THINGS WE ARE GOING TO WORK TOWARDS IN THE NEXT ONE TO THREE YEARS TO EXECUTE THAT TRANSFORMATION SO JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF THE UPDATES WE HAVE FOR YOU THIS EVENING I'M GOING TO REVIEW AND VISION DAY TWO. WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN THOSE MEETINGS. STUDY VISITS WILL BE SHARED BY MY COLLEAGUES AND GIVE YOU A PREVIEW OF THE STRUCTURE WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON AND WHAT NEXT STEPS WILL LOOK LIKE. AND VISION DAY TWO ON FEBRUARY 6 WE BROUGHT TOGETHER MORE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY THAT WE BROUGHT TOGETHER ON INVISION DAY ONE. OVER 220 TOTAL ATTENDEES AND JUST REMIND YOU THESE ARE GROUPS OF STUDENTS, PARENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATION AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS ALL MEETING TOGETHER TO REALLY HELP DEVELOP THE TRANSFORMATION STATEMENT A PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE WOULD LOOK LIKE. ONE THING OF NOTE IS THAT WE INCREASED STUDENT ATTENDANCE AT THIS EVENT AND STUDENT VOICE HAS BEEN A MAJOR COMPONENT AS WE'VE GONE THROUGH THIS PROCESS. WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT WHAT WE ARE CREATING HAS THAT STUDENT VOICE AT THE FOREFRONT SO WE OFTEN OPEN AND CLOSE THOSE DAYS HEARING FOR STUDENTS. WE SOLICITED THEIR INPUT ALONG WITH COMMUNITIES IN THAT WAY AND THAT'S A MAJOR COMPONENT TO THIS WORK. WE SOLIDIFIED OUR TRANSFORMATION STATEMENT WHICH I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU IN A MOMENT THEN FURTHER SOLIDIFIED OUR PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE AND THAT IS BOTH A VISUAL AS WELL AS THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCES AND ATTRIBUTES US STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP IN OUR SCHOOLS. WHEN WE CONCLUDED VISION DAY, INVITED ATTENDEES TO ENGAGE WITH MASTER PLANNING THE NEXT PHASE, WE ACTUALLY HAD TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY BASED ON CAPACITY WHICH I THINK IS A PRETTY AWESOME THING. I WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU. DO I NEED ANOTHER MR. MICROPHONE? THANK YOU. SO I'M GOING TO READ IT HERE ON THE RECORD SO THROUGH ONGOING COLLABORATION WITH OUR COMMUNITY , WE STRIVE TO DEVELOP EACH SCHOOL'S PASSION AND ENSURE FUTURE READINESS AND PROVIDE EVER STUDENT WITH DIVERSIFIED LEARNING EXPERIENCES. THIS IS NOT OUR VISION STATEMENT . WE HAVE A VISION STATEMENT BUT THIS IS THE COMMITMENT AS TO

[00:05:01]

HOW WE ARE GOING TO GO ABOUT TRANSFORMING THE EXPERIENCE THROUGH THIS PROCESS SO THAT IS KIND OF A COMMITMENT THAT CAME FROM OUR COMMUNITY AND MY FAVORITE ARTIST THROUGH ONGOING COLLABORATION WITH OUR COMMUNITY, THAT COMMUNITY CONNECTED PIECE IS PART OF EVERYTHING WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THIS. ALSO, WHAT WAS CREATED OUT OF INVISION DAY WHEN THIS COMMUNITY MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED TO STEP INTO MASTER PLANNING WE CREATED TACTIC TEAMS, SO THE WORK SHIFTED FROM ENVISIONING WHAT THAT PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE AND EXPERIENCES WERE GOING TO PROVIDE STUDENTS TO PEOPLE SELECTING TO SERVE ON TACTIC TEAMS THAT WILL MAKE THE PLAN AND THEN POTENTIALLY THEY WILL BE ALSO PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS SO ALSO PART OF THESE COMMUNITY VOICES AND VOICES THAT ARE A PART OF IT CONTINUE THROUGH THE PROCESS. I JUST WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THE WAY THESE TACTIC TEAMS HAVE FOCUSED IN ON THE WORK PAID THEY HAVE CHOSEN THESE TITLES BY LOOKING AT THE TACTICS FROM FOURTH GENERATION LEARNING AND IT'S REALLY COOL BECAUSE AT THIS POINT THIS IS BECOMING MORE COMMUNITY OWNED SO THESE ELEMENTS ARE NOW TEAMS OF AT LEAST ONE STUDENT AND THEN COMMUNITY AND STAFF MEMBERS THAT ARE NOW WORKING TOGETHER IN THE MASTER PLANNING PROCESS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE THINGS. SO WE MOVED TO MASTER PLANNING SO AGAIN WE HAD TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES BASED ON FORD'S GUIDANCE WHEN WE CAME TOGETHER ON MARCH 13TH TO START THAT WORK. WE BUILT A LOT OF BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE THAT DAY . MIKE FROM INVEST HAMILTON COUNTY SHARED THE WORKFORCE PROJECTIONS INTO 2030. WE DON'T BUILD ANYTHING FOR STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY UNLESS WE HAVE BOTH STUDENT INTEREST IN WORKFORCE NEEDS SO AS WE DO THIS WORK, IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT WE KEEP A STRONG HANDLE ON WHERE THOSE JOBS AND THINGS ARE GOING. WE ALSO LOOKS AT CURRENT LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN PK 12 AND FOUND IT REALLY DEPENDS ON ARE THE PERSPECTIVE OF OUR PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AS TO WHAT THEY REALLY KNOW IN TERMS OF LEARNING EXPERIENCES. WE DON'T EXPECT ELEMENTARY PARENTS TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND VICE VERSA SO IT WAS A GREAT MOMENT TO SHARE THOSE THINGS. WE LEVEL SET THE VISION AND THE POG SO WE HAVE CONTINUED THAT ORCHARD OF A GRADUATE CONVERSATION THERE, ESTABLISH THE TACTIC TEAMS IN THE TACTIC TEAMS CREATED THEIR OWN PURPOSE AND PRIORITIES AND THAT BECOMES WHAT WE START MOVING TOWARDS. WE BRAINSTORMED RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THAT WORK IN THIS DAY WE PRACTICE WRITING PRIORITY AND ACTION STEPS WHICH COMES TO OUR NEXT STEP IN THIS. I'M GOING TO POSIT HERE AND SHARE A VIDEO CREATED BY STUDENTS AT HSC HIGH SCHOOL THAT ATTENDED WITH US THAT DAY, ABOUT SEVEN OF THEM. THIS IS STUDENTS FROM

THE MEDIA CLASS . >> AT THE HEART OF THIS WORK FOR NEXT-GENERATION REALLY HIGHLIGHTS WHAT THEY CALL COMMUNITY CONNECTED LEARNING SO THAT MEANS EVERY PHASE OF GOING THROUGH THIS PROCESS WE ENGAGE STUDENTS, PARENTS, TEACHERS, COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS AND HSE STAFF IN THE PROCESS TO VOICE AND WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL THOSE VOICES ARE IN THE WORK AND WHAT ARE INTERIOR COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES AND LEARNS AS WE GO THROUGH OUR

SYSTEM. >> HOW DOES PREPARING FOR ONE CAREER DURING SCHOOL AFFECT

THE FUTURE AND HOW WE HELP . >> EVERYBODY HAS A VOICE AND EVERY VOICE IN THIS COMMUNITY MATTERS FROM THE FEWER LIKE A FOURTH-GRADER LIKE ME OR LIKE SOMEBODY WHO IS ABOUT TO BE IN COLLEGE OR SOMETHING, YOUR VOICE MATTERS AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

>> IT'S COOL TO SEE THAT THE ADMINISTRATORS AND STUDENTS BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES IT FEELS LIKE STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED IN ANY DECISION-MAKING SO IT MAKES ME EXCITED BECAUSE I KNOW TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS CARE ABOUT WHAT STUDENTS THINK AND

>> I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW WAY OF TEACHING HAVING CHANGE TO PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IN ONE OF MY CLASSES AND SAYING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, INVOLVEMENT, THEIR ABILITY TO SUCCEED, LOTS OF THINGS LIKE THAT. IT IS WHERE MY HEART IS, WHERE MY PASSION IS, MEETING EVERY STUDENT NOT JUST TOP, BOTTOM . EVERY STUDENT IS INCLUDED AND IT'S EXCITING.

>> WE ARE BRINGING EVERY STUDENT TOGETHER TO BUILD A FUTURE FOR OUR KIDS AND WHAT WE

[00:10:01]

WANT OUR FUTURE TO BE. IT'S INTERESTING TO KNOW OUR KIDS WILL CHANGE CAREERS ON AVERAGE SEVEN TIMES SO WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE DIFFERENT MOVES THEY WILL MAKE IN THEIR LIFE. TO ME, THE MOST EFFECTIVE RESOLUTIONS AND SOLUTIONS COME OUT OF SO MANY DIFFERENT VOICES. IT'S NOT MONOPOLIZED OR HOMOGENEOUS VOICES. IT IS VOICES THAT ARE DIVERSE AND THAT JUST SERVES MORE PEOPLE. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR WEBSITE UNDER THE STUDENT LEARNING MODEL TAB TO SEE UPDATES ON WHERE THINGS ARE HEADED, NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND TO LOOK AT WHAT IS ALREADY BEEN ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THIS PROCESS. WE CONTINUE THROUGH MASTER PLANNING AND MOVE THAT TOWARDS IMPLEMENTATION THAT IS WHERE WE START TO SEE ALL OF THIS WORK SHOW UP IN LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN OUR CLASSROOMS. THAT SAME GROUP YOU JUST SAW IN THAT VIDEO , SAME ATTENDEES. WE ARE TRYING TO INCREASE STUDENT VOICES AND ENSURE THOSE VOICES ARE IN THE ROOM AS WE DO THAT. THOSE GROUPS WILL ENGAGE IN WHAT ARE CALLED WRITING SPRINTS SO NOW WE'RE GETTING TO WRITING DOWN THIS PLAN AND THEY ALREADY HAVE PURPOSE STATEMENTS AND PRIORITY AREAS. THEY'RE GOING TO CREATE ACTION STEPS AT THAT POINT BUT THEN ARE SHARED BUT REALLY CHALLENGE US AS A DISTRICT TO EXECUTE IN ORDER TO MAKE THOSE TRANSFORMATIONS COME TO LIFE IN THESE CLASSROOMS. WE ALSO HAVE MASTER PLANNING ON JUNE 4TH AND AT THAT POINT WE WILL HAVE A TIMELINE TO SHOW WHAT THOSE NEXT YEARS LOOK LIKE. CHECK FOR FENCING GAPS, REDUNDANCIES AND MULTIPLY FIVE WHAT THE MASTER PLAN IS AND THE GRANT THAT THIS COMES THROUGH WE TURN INTO THE D.O.E. IS A WRITTEN MASTER PLAN. THE MASTER PLAN IS 150 PAGE DOCUMENT SUBMITTED TO THE D.O.E. AUTHORED BY HER COMMUNITY AND STAFF BUT ORGANIZED BY ME AND THAT IS DUE IN JUNE. IT WILL INCLUDE A SUMMARY OF THIS PROCESS. THE THREE-YEAR IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK FOR EACH OF THOSE TACTICS, THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE, THE GUARANTEED EXPERIENCES WE PROVIDE STUDENTS BE K-12 AND HOW WE WILL ASSESS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THOSE THINGS AS WE GO THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION IN THAT JOURNEY. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER NOW TO A COUPLE OF MY COLLEAGUES.

KRISTI THOMAS AND STACY BROWN. AKRON , MS. THOMAS WAS ABLE TO JOIN US IN AKRON AND I THINK SOME OF YOU HAVE PROBABLY BEEN TO AKRON, AS WELL. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. WE WERE ABLE TO VISIT THE STUDENT ART MUSEUM WITH THE SCHOOL AND WITH THEIR STUDENTS. IT WAS GREAT TO WALK AROUND AND SEE WHAT THEIR GUARANTEED EXPERIENCES. IN ADDITION THE NEXT DAY THEY TALKED TO US ABOUT THEIRS YOU EXPERIENCE THAT THEY HAVE . IN ADDITION WE GOT TO VISIT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WHEN WE WERE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WE REALLY GOT TO SEE HOW THEY INTEGRATE CAREERS INTO THEIR DAILY ORGANIZATION AS WELL AS SOME SYSTEMATIC APPROACHES THEY HAVE TO THEIR PBI S, THERE M TSS CELEBRATIONS, THINGS THEY DO ACROSS ALL OF THEIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. WHAT IS NEAT, AND WHAT WE NOTICED WHEN WE WERE THERE IS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE GUARANTEED EXPERIENCES HERE , AND WE ARE AHEAD OF THE GAME. OUR TEACHERS THAT ARE TEACHER IN RESIDENCES ARE DOING AN AMAZING JOB OF INTEGRATING WHERE CAREERS FIT INTO THEIR LOCATION , SO WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE WHERE ELSE WE CAN EXPAND THE WORK WE ARE DOING WHEN WE HAD IN A KINDERGARTEN, PRE-K AND THEN HOW WE EXPAND THIRD GRADE .

WHAT ELSE CAN WE BE DOING TO ELABORATE ON SOME OF THOSE AREAS. NEXT STEPS WE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT OR THINGS THAT WE THOUGHT ABOUT COMING BACK FROM OUR TRIP TO AKRON IS HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THERE IS A PK-12 ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT THE NETWORKS WILL BE OR WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL . HOW DO WE MAKE SURE WE ARE DABBLING IN SOME OF THAT AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL SO KIDS GET TO SEE THAT AND START TO EXPLORE THAT. WITH THE

[00:15:06]

PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE WHICH STEVE WILL TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THOSE THEMES ARE EMBEDDED THROUGHOUT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL AND IF OUR COMMUNITY BELIEVES THAT EMPATHY IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS THAT WE NEED TO START THAT AT A PRE-K LEVEL AND IT NEEDS TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH WHAT IS EMPATHY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL AND WHAT IS EMPATHY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, ALL THE WAY THROUGH AS WELL AS THE CAREER EMPHASIS. WE DO THINGS NOW BUT HOW CAN WE MAKE THAT MAY BE MORE SYSTEMATIC, THAT ALL KIDS GET IT, NOT JUST CERTAIN GROUPS OF KIDS ACROSS THE DISTRICT . OTHER THINGS WE WANT TO THINK ABOUT ARE THE CAREER LENS DIVERSE EXPERIENCE FROM ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND WE ALSO TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THE MEDIA CENTER -- WHAT ELSE COULD WE BE DOING IN TERMS OF MAKING SURE WE HAVE A GOOD SELECTION OF FOLKS THAT TALK ABOUT DIFFERENT CAREERS, IT'S A GOOD PLACE IN A SMALLER PLACE TO START BUT AN IMPORTANT PLACE. ON THE NEXT SCREEN ARE JUST SOME PICTURES. IF YOU WILL CLICK TO THE NEXT ONE, JUST OUR EXPERIENCE OF THINGS AND THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PORTRAIT OF AN ELEMENTARY SCHOLAR SO WE ARE REALLY WORKING ON THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE THAT WE MIGHT AT SOME POINT , DEPENDING ON WHERE THE COMMUNITY WANTS US TO TAKE IT, MIGHT LOOK AT A PORTRAIT AT DIFFERENT LEVELS SO THEY HAD SPECIFICALLY A PORTRAIT OF AN ELEMENTARY SCHOLAR. SOME STUDENTS , WHEN WE WENT AROUND THE BUILDING, WE WERE SEEN THEM TAKE ONE OF THE GUARANTEED EXPERIENCE AND HOW IT WAS WOVEN BACK INTO THE CLASSROOM AND THEY WERE WORKING ON A PROJECT. THE ART LAB UP THERE, THOSE WITH THE KIDS WHO VISITED THE ART MUSEUM IN THE WORK THAT THEY WERE DOING AND I JUST AGAIN, I AM AN ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL, SO THIS CHALLENGE THAT THE KIDS HAD TO ANSWER, THEY HAD TO CREATE THEIR OWN BOOK ON WHAT TYPE OF TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS WITH THIS BOOK HAVE TO MAKE THE WORLD BETTER AND IT WAS CALLED THE SCATTER BUG AND IT PRODUCES PLANTS AND HELPS THEM BY SPINNING OUT MORE SEEDS SO I THOUGHT THAT'S REALLY CREATIVE AND IT WAS JUST A VERY CUTE APPROACH AND THEY HAD A WHOLE WALL OF ALL THE ARTWORK THE KIDS HAD MADE WHEN THEY WERE AT THE MUSEUM AND IN THE LAB . IT WAS ALL PRESENTED FOR THE STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO SEE OTHER STUDENT WORK SO IT WAS VERY NICE. I WILL PASS THIS ON FOR THE NATIONAL VISIT.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. GOOD EVENING. I HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO BE PART OF THE TEAM OF ADMINISTRATORS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WENT TO NASHVILLE LATE IN MARCH . METRO NASHVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOW HAS WHAT IS CALLED THE ACADEMIES OF NASHVILLE AND THEY CENTER THAT ON THE NASHVILLE HUB WHICH ACTUALLY IS BRINGING IN SCHOOLS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY . THEY'RE COMING TO VISIT NASHVILLE AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE IN IN THE ACADEMIES OF NASHVILLE THEY HAVE 12 HIGH SCHOOLS WITH 35 DIFFERENT CAREER-FOCUSED ACADEMIES, SO THAT IS REALLY WHAT WE GOT TO SEE. I WAS ABLE TO VISIT THREE DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS AND I KNOW THE MEMBERS OF OUR TEAM WENT TO SEVERAL SO I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY TOTAL THAT WE SAW BUT THAT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO GO AND SEE HOW THEY IMPLEMENT THESE PRACTICES IN THEIR DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS AND ALL OF THEM , THOUGH, THESE ARE THINGS WE NOTICE LIKE SOME OF THE MAJOR TAKEAWAYS THAT WE SAW. ALL OF THEM HAVE HIGH SCHOOLS. THERE ARE ORGANIZED IN THESE FUTURE FOCUSED ACADEMIES SO AGAIN LIKE WHETHER IT IS THAT OH SCIENCES WERE IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, LIKE EACH HIGH SCHOOL HAS THEIR IDENTIFIED ACADEMIES AND STUDENTS HAVE THE CHOICE OF OKAY, THIS IS AN AREA OF INTEREST THAT I HAVE SO GOING TO GO TO THIS HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY HAVE THAT ACADEMY SO OBVIOUSLY A MUCH BIGGER STRUCTURE THAN WHAT WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT BUT THAT IS HOW THEY ARE SET UP THEN THEY ALL HAVE A FRESHMAN ACADEMY WITH A SEMINAR COURSE AND THAT SEMINAR COURSES REALLY THAT EXPLORATORY COURSE FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT COLLEGE AND CAREER SO THAT AS THEY GET CLOSER TO CHOOSING THEIR ACADEMY, THEY HAVE SOME BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE, SO IT IS IN SOME WAYS WE ALREADY HAVE THAT PREPARING FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS COURSE. THIS IS EXPANDING THAT OVER AN ENTIRE YEAR AND REALLY GIVING THE STUDENTS THOSE CAREER APTITUDE TESTS OR DOING JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCES, REALLY JUST TRYING TO BRING AS MUCH AWARENESS AS POSSIBLE TO STUDENTS ABOUT WHAT IS OUT THERE. OBVIOUSLY WORKFORCE DATA IS WHAT YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT SO THEN THEY CAN MAKE BETTER AND MORE INFORMED CHOICES ABOUT MIKE HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL WE HAVE OVER 220 COURSES. WHAT DO I TAKE IF I WANT TO BE A VETERINARIAN SO REALLY TRYING TO BRING SOME OF THAT AWARENESS TO STUDENTS AND THEN THE ACADEMIES OF NASHVILLE SOMETHING WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT IS WHAT IS THE GUARANTEED FUTURE FOCUSED EXPERIENCE AT EACH GRADE LEVEL? THE FRESHMAN WILL HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE WHETHER THAT IS CAREER INVENTORY OR JOB SHADOWING . SOPHOMORES MAY HAVE AN INDUSTRY TOUR . JUNIORS, I THINK THEY RESERVE THEIR INTERNSHIPS FOR SENIORS, THE WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE BUT AT EACH GRADE LEVEL WE'VE IDENTIFIED WHAT THAT FUTURE-FOCUSED EXPERIENCE WOULD BE THEN OF COURSE COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND COMMUNITY ACCESS ON THE NEXT FLIGHT YOU WILL SEE THAT IN ONE OF THE SCHOOLS IS THE TENNESSEE CREDIT UNION ACADEMY OF FINANCE AND THEY ACTUALLY HAVE

[00:20:03]

A BIG BRANCH IN THEIR BUILDING THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC SO THAT AND THEY HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE THE TELLERS AND STUDENTS WERE THAT BRANCH MANAGER SO THAT IT IS A TWO-WAY ACCESS AND THEY HAVE THOSE COMMUNITY PARTNERS WHO ARE SUPPORTING THE SCHOOLS AND SO SENDING STUDENTS OUT AND BRINGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN. ANOTHER HALLMARK OF THEIR PROGRAM IS THAT EACH OF THESE HIGH SCHOOLS HAS AN ACADEMY COACH WHO WORKS WITH THE EDUCATORS WITHIN THAT ACADEMY LOOKING AT INSTRUCTIONAL BEST PRACTICES, WHETHER THAT IS PROJECT-BASED LEARNING ARE SOME OF THOSE OTHER ELEMENTS SO THAT ACADEMY COACH REALLY IS IMPORTANT IN IMPLEMENTING SOME OF THESE FUTURE-READY PRACTICES. I WAS VERY MUCH IMPRESSED BY THE STUDENT AMBASSADORS. YOU WILL SEE A COUPLE OF THEM IN THE PICTURES ON THE NEXT SLIDE. I KNOW WE HAVE HIGH QUALITY STUDENTS WHO CAN EQUALLY DO THAT JOB SO IT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE TO SEE THE STUDENTS WHO GUIDED HER TO HER AND SPOKE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLY ABOUT THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THEY HAVE IN ANOTHER HALLMARK WAS THE INCLUSION OF THE MIDDLE GRADE SO IT WAS GOOD THAT WE HAD COLLABORATE WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOL COUNTERPARTS BUT IT WAS ALSO GOOD TO COLLABORATE WITH A SECONDARY PERSPECTIVE BECAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING WE VERY MUCH WANT TO LOOK AT AND GROW, LIKE KRISTI WAS SAYING, FROM THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL LIKE HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE THIS REALLY IS A P K-12 ALIGNMENT AND SO THAT WAS SOMETHING WE SAW THERE . GO AHEAD AND LOOK AT SOME OF THE PICTURES HERE. THERE IN THE UPPER LEFT YOU SEE THE TENNESSEE CREDIT UNION ACADEMY OF BUSINESS AND FINANCE. THERE YOU SEE SOME OF THE AMBASSADORS IN THEIR NAVY BLAZERS AND THEY WERE THE ONES USHERING US AROUND. THE SCHOOLS WE WENT TO EACH HAD A SEPARATE AREA FOR THE FRESHMAN ACADEMY. THIS WAS ANTIOCH HIGH SCHOOL . IN EACH OF THEIR ACADEMIES THEY HAD THE STUDENT OF THE MONTH SIGNAGE THERE, SO THAT WAS JUST SOMETHING ELSE I WAS IMPRESSED WITH. YOU SEE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT, JUST THE AMOUNT OF LANDING AND SIGNAGE . THEY HAD MISSION STATEMENTS. THEY HAD INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS THAT WERE POSTED CONSISTENTLY AROUND THE BUILDING SO IT WAS VERY MUCH A COMMON LANGUAGE, A COMMON EXPECTATION SO I THINK THAT REALLY SPOKE TO THE CULTURE THEY ARE BUILDING AND AT SCHOOL PAID IN THE UPPER RIGHT, THEY ACTUALLY HAD A COURTROOM IN ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS THAT I WENT TO AND IN THIS PARTICULAR SCHOOL, THEY HEAR LIKE CHILD SERVICES CASES AND STUDENTS DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE, LIKE THEY HEAR LEGITIMATE CASES IN THAT COURTROOM WHERE STUDENTS SERVE IN SOME OF THOSE DIFFERENT ROLES, SO THAT WAS REALLY NEAT AND THEN IN THE BOTTOM LEFT YOU SEE ONE OF THOSE AUTOMOTIVE LABS THEY HAVE FOR STAFF CAN EVEN BRING IN THEIR VEHICLES TO GET WORK DONE BY STUDENTS ARE VERY HANDS-ON AND YOU SEE THAT MISSION STATEMENT THERE IN THE MIDDLE FROM ONE OF THEIR ACADEMIES SO AGAIN EVERYTHING WAS VERY CENTERED AROUND COMMON VISION, COMMON FOCUS, REALLY MAKING SURE STUDENTS HAVE A DIVERSITY OF EXPERIENCES, SOME OF THOSE EXPLORATORY EXPERIENCES AND THAT THEY'RE GETTING PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE SO DEFINITELY A LOT OF GOOD TAKEAWAYS FROM THAT TRIP AND LIKE I SAY, IT WAS REALLY VALUABLE TO BE ABLE TO SEE THOSE AND HAVE THAT TIME TO COLLABORATE AS SECONDARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. REALLY GREAT OPPORTUNITIES. SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOT TO GO SEE THINGS THAT STRETCH YOU, YOU KNOW, AND APPLY THOSE TO WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH SO PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE UP DATE. WE CURRENTLY HAVE A VISUAL BEEN DRAFTED BY A GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND THEN THESE ARE THE LIST OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES, EXPERIENCES THAT OUR COMMUNITY REALLY -- THERE WERE OTHERS BUT THESE WERE THE ONES THAT REALLY CAME TO THE FOREFRONT AS WE HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF INPUT IN TERMS OF WHAT EACH OF THOSE THINGS ARE. I'VE ALSO PUT IN ASTERIX THERE. THOSE INDICATE THAT THOSE ELEMENTS ALIGN WITH THE GPS DASHBOARD AND THE STATE PROFILE OF A GRADUATE SO ULTIMATELY WHAT WILL BE HOLDING STUDENTS ACCOUNTABLE TO OUR PRESENT IN THESE. WE DID NOT MANDATE THAT.

WE DID NOT GUIDE THAT. IT HAPPENED IN THAT WAY SO WHAT IS NEAT IS THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO REALLY FOCUS IN ON SOME OF THOSE THINGS. A COUPLE OF THINGS IN HERE I FOUND FASCINATING -- OUR STUDENTS ACTUALLY MORE THAN BACKUP TO HAVE THIS KIND OF PROCESS WENT.

WE CONDUCTED INPUT SESSIONS ON BOTH DAYS AND I NOTED HOW WE FELT LIKE WE NEEDED MORE STUDENT VOICE. WE HAD OUR PRINCIPLES PULL KIDS TOGETHER AND TRY TO BRING MORE DIVERSITY OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE DIFFERENT GOALS IN LIFE, MAYBE NOT COLLEGE TRADES, THOSE SORT OF THINGS AND THEY THEN CONDUCTED A CONVERSATION WITH STUDENTS ABOUT WHAT THESE THINGS WERE.

WE SENT OUT SOME SURVEYS AND ALSO SEND IT OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY SO PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED BUT ALSO PEOPLE WHO MAYBE COULD NOT BE THERE THEN WE LOOKED AT THE RESULTS OF THAT , LOOKING AT THE STUDENT INPUT BUT ALSO THE COMMUNITY INPUT. OUR STUDENTS IDENTIFIED MORE THAN THE ADULTS , LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY AS PART OF THAT . IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO

[00:25:05]

ME. THEN WHAT WAS THE ADULT ONE THAT WAS SURPRISING? I THINK IT WAS CHARACTER. YEAH, THAT WAS MORE NOTED IN THAT WAY, SO JUST SOME SURPRISING PIECES THAT CAME FROM THAT INPUT SO THIS WILL BE DEVELOPED INTO A VISUAL THAT WE WILL SHARE THAT MASTER PLANNING IN MAY WITH THAT GROUP THEN OBVIOUSLY WE ARE GOING TO SHARE IT WITH YOU AND THEN WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW TO DEPLOY THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE THROUGH NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. IT IS VERY TIMELY AS WE MOVE INTO WHAT IS DIFFERENT GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS I THINK TO THEN ALSO BRING THIS ALONG SIDE AND SAY THIS IS THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN VERSION OF WHAT WE THINK A GRADUATE NEEDS AND REALLY MARKET IT'S IN THAT WAY TOWARDS THAT. JUST KNOW THAT IS IN THE WORKS. WANTED TO PUT SOME OTHER WORK THAT IS BEEN GOING ON. WE NOTICE COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WE KNOW WE TALKED ABOUT MIKE THIBIDEAU AND WEST HAMILTON COUNTY BEEN PART OF THOSE DAYS. HE ALSO WENT TO NASHVILLE AND WAS PART OF THAT WORK . WE ARE WORKING TO ORGANIZE OR DEVELOP A COMMUNITY CONVENING ORGANIZATION OVER HERE ON THE SITE IS WHAT IS CALLED THE HOURGLASS AND SO WHEN WE DO THIS WORK IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO SET UP SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES WHERE THERE ARE CLEAR CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION , AND SUPPORT BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY AND EVERYONE IS OPERATING WITHIN THOSE CHANNELS WITH THAT. PART OF THAT, WE'VE NAMED ONE'S OWN IS OUR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION. THIS GOES BACK TO WHAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED AS BEING A WORKFORCE NEED. WE BROUGHT IN ACTUALLY IT WAS ON THE HUB CHART THAT STACY SHOWED, ALIGNMENT NASHVILLE, WHICH IS AN ORGANIZATION BORN OUT OF NASHVILLE'S CHAMBERS TO HELP DO THIS KIND OF WORK SO WE BROUGHT IN ON MARCH 27TH, MELISSA JAGGERS. WE NOTED HOW MUCH OUR CITY HAS INVESTED IN ALL THIS THROUGH THESE EXPERIENCES SO WE HAVE THE CITY OF FISHERS IN THE CITY OF NOBLESVILLE AT THE TABLE AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS IS ONGOING. WE ARE GOING TO BE DEVELOPING WHAT OR SYSTEM OF STRUCTURE IS TO DO THIS WORK HERE WHEN THE COACHES ARE IN TOWN AND MAY PAID YOU KIND OF GET THAT SOLIDIFIED SO PART OF THAT IS THAT WE ARE VERY LARGE IN THE WAY WE NEED TO MANAGE THE SCALE OF A LOT OF THESE THINGS WE REALLY NEED SOME REALLY CLEAR SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES IN ORDER TO GET THAT ACCOMPLISHED SO I LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE. NEXT STEPS AGAIN WE ARE GOING TO BRING THAT COMMUNITY CONVENING ORGANIZATION COMMITTEE STARING CONCEPT ON MAY 14TH WHEN OUR COACHES ARE IN TOWN. MAY 15TH WE ARE GOING TO DO MASTER PLANNING AND FINALIZE THAT PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE. JUNE 4TH IS MASTER PLANNING THREE THEN RETURN ALL OUR THINGS IN. IN 24 -25 I WANT TO KNOW TO SUMMARIZE HERE THIS IS STILL IN PLANNING PHASE. WE ARE NOT IMPLEMENTING ANYTHING NEXT YEAR BUT WE ARE DOING SOME PD SUPPORTS AND THESE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE FOUND AROUND THE FRESHMAN EXPERIENCE FRESHMAN ACADEMY FRESHMAN SEMINAR AND ACADEMY COUNSELOR TRAINING, WHAT WE PROVIDED AND THAT IS STILL COVERED UNDER OUR GRANT TECHNICALLY EVEN THOUGH IT GOES INTO NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. WE HAVE WORKED THAT OUT SO WE'RE GOING TO START TO OFFER PD SUPPORTS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL TO START THIS TRANSFORMATION AND THEN WE WILL HAVE DETAILS REALLY AFTER THE COMMUNITY HAS VOICED INTO MASTER PLANNING WHAT IMPLEMENTATION WILL LOOK LIKE IN 2025-26 WITH THAT. SO I JUST WANTED TO LEAVE YOU WITH AN ACTIVITY THAT ABBY TAYLOR LEARNED IN ONE OF OUR DAYS AND WE ASK THE ENTIRE ROOM TO REALLY GET CLEAR ON WHAT STUDENTS WOULD BE DOING AND WHAT TEACHERS WOULD BE DOING IN OUR CLASSROOMS ONCE THIS TRANSFORMATION IS COMPLETE SO I WANT YOU TO TAKE A MOMENT AND READ THROUGH WHAT STUDENTS WILL BE DOING IF YOU WALKED INTO THE CLASSROOMS OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS ON THE SLIDE.

THIS IS WHAT TEACHERS WOULD BE DOING TO ACCOMPLISH THOSE THINGS. ANY QUESTIONS FOR

[00:30:02]

MYSELF OR MY COLLEAGUES? >> I APPRECIATE YOU PUTTING THE ASTERIX IN THEIR SHOWING THE STATE REQUIREMENTS , ESPECIALLY AS WE ARE REIMAGINE A HIGH SCHOOL AS A STATE. I THINK THE EVOLUTION OF THAT IS CONTINUING TO FLEX BETWEEN NOW AND 2029 SO IT LOOKS LIKE THIS WOULD AT LEAST BE ABLE TO HAVE THAT CONTINUATION, IF YOU WILL . I LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU SHOW WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE SEEING AND TEACHER SHOULD BE DOING IN THE CLASSROOM AND THE DOING ASPECT OF IT AND HOW IT IS SHOWING OUT WHAT ARE WE DOING FROM AN EVALUATION STANDPOINT TO ENSURE IT ACTUALLY TRANSLATES AND IT'S ACTUALLY SHOWING UP THAT WAY.

>> YES IF I WENT BACK TO THE TACTIC TEAMS, THERE IS A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TACTIC TEAM AND DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURE SO WHAT IS INTERESTING THROUGH THE PROCESSES THOSE TACTIC TEAMS ARE GRAPPLING WITH WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO BUT THOSE ARE DIRECTLY OPPOSEDTO THOSE TACTICS AND IN THOSE ROOMS THEY'RE COMING TOGETHER TO TALK ABOUT WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT IN THAT WAY BUT THAT WILL BE ARTICULATED WITHIN THE MASTER PLAN AND A WAY OF FINANCE THAT IMPLEMENTATION ESSENTIAL LIKE WHEN WOULD WE HOLD TEACHERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT TRANSFORMATION? PEBLEY NOT YOUR ONE LIKE WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE AND GROW. THAT IS WHAT IS POWERFUL AND I THINK SO THAT IT ACTUALLY SUSTAINS AND WE TRAIN OUR ADMINISTRATORS AND THAT, THAT IS ALL PART OF OUR TACTIC TEAM SO IT WILL BE

RIGHT THERE IN PLAN WITH THE ACTION STEPS. >> A COUPLE OF COMMENTS. I LOVE THIS. THIS IS GREAT. I RECOGNIZE SOME OF THOSE PLACES. I GUESS MY ONLY QUESTION IS THAT RANT THAT IS FUNDING THE TRIPS AND THE PLANTINGS AND ALL THOSE THINGS. YOU SAID THAT WILL CONTINUE TO CARRY ON INTO NEXT YEAR. WHEN DOES THE FINANCIAL PIECE OF THAT GRANT

RUN OUT? >> TECHNICALLY IT ENDS IN SEPTEMBER OF NEXT YEAR. WE HAVE WORKED WITH CISC ON THE TIMELINE AS A WAY TO PUSH SOME OF THOSE TRAININGS WHEN WE ARE READY FOR THEM SO THAT IS PART OF THAT AND THEN WE GET TO DO AN EVALUATION, YOU KNOW. I THINK WE WANT TO SEE WHAT WE ARE BUYING HERE IN THE FINAL PRODUCT AND THE FACILITATION OF IT AND YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE IN THAT CONVERSATION AT THAT POINT SO I THINK WE HAVE SOME IDEAS THERE OF HOW WE MOVE FORWARD IN THE KEY TO THAT IS THAT WE DON'T WANT TO START MAKING THOSE PLANS FROM THE COMMUNITY THE STILL PROVIDING INPUT AND GUIDANCE SO THE END OF THAT MASTER PLANNING WILL OBVIOUSLY HAVE SOME THINGS WHERE THE COMMUNITY SAYS WE WANT TO SEE THIS THROUGH. THESE ARE THINGS WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT. IF WE ARE NOT RESPONSIVE

TO THOSE WE RISK -- >> THAT IS KIND OF MY THOUGHT WITH THAT IS VISITING NASHVILLE AND SEEING ALL THOSE INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY PARTNERS FROM BANKS TO REAL ESTATE TO MANUFACTURING TO COLLEGES. THERE WERE SOME COLLEGES THAT PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT TO GET THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS SO I'M HOPEFUL THAT AS WE DEVELOP THIS I THINK THE WORD WE KEEP COMING BACK TO IS SUSTAINABILITY SO IT WOULD BE A SHAME TO DO ALL THIS AND HAVE THIS FRAMEWORK AND THEN IT FIZZLES OUT SO I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE INCLUDING THAT PIECE OF IT AS WE TRANSITION FROM THE GRANT PROGRAM AND THE FRAMEWORK TO NOW HSC IS DOING THIS ON OUR OWN ESSENTIALLY AND IF WE CAN BRING IN SOME OF THOSE COMMUNITIES, 220 PEOPLE, HUNDRED AND 30 FROM MASTER PLANNING IF WE COULD KEEP THOSE ENGAGED IN STUDENTS THAT WOULD BECOME THEIR WORKFORCE, WE CAN GO BACK AND FORTH A LITTLE BIT AND THEY CAN HELP US WITH THESE THINGS LIKE INTERNSHIPS, INDUSTRY TOURS. IT'S A GREAT

PROGRAM, SO THANK YOU. >> OTHER QUESTIONS, CONCERNS?

>> THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. >> ONE THING I WANTED TO EMPHASIZE THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION BUT HEARING YOU MENTION THE NEW DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS AND THAT SORT OF THING AND TO ECHO WHAT KRISTI ALSO SAID IS THAT ONE OF OUR BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THAT EXPERIENCE IS WHAT A GREAT FOUNDATION WE ALREADY HAVE , THAT WE HAVE PROGRAMS OF EXCELLENCE. WE HAVE FUTURE FOCUSED LEARNING HAPPENING ALREADY SO WHEN I LOOK AT THE NEW DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE COMING DOWN THE LINE AS LIKE OH, OKAY, WE ARE ALREADY DOING THOSE THINGS. IN SOME CASES WE ALREADY DO IT BETTER SO I THINK WHEN I TALK TO STAFF ABOUT THIS LIKE THIS IS NOT ABOUT BRINGING SOMETHING NEW. IT'S ABOUT ENHANCING IN

[00:35:01]

THE IMPROVING WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE AND BRING IN SOME OF THOSE EXCELLENT PROGRAMS WE HAVE TO

SCALE FOR EVERY STUDENT. >> PERFECTLY SAID. SOME OF OUR CONCERNS FROM THE FINANCIAL ASPECT THERE SAYING, WE HAVE A LOT OF THIS STUFF. IT'S ABOUT ALIGNING IT, GETTING THE COMMUNITY TO BUY IN WHERE WE ARE STARTING FROM THEIR STARTING FROM A TOTALLY DIFFERENT. WE HAVE THE STRUCTURE AND THE FACILITY TO DO IT SO IF WE CAN GET IT ALIGNED

>> RIGHT AND INSURED FOR EVERY SINGLE KID. >> I WOULD EVEN SAY RE-ENERGIZE. THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST THAT ARE TRANSFORMING MORE THINGS THAT WE COULD

THAT IS WHAT I TOOK AWAY FROM THERE SO THANK YOU. >> THANKS FOR SHARING THAT.

THANK YOU. >> ANYONE WITH FURTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? THANK YOU FOR COMING.
