[1. Meeting Opening] [00:00:08] >> PRESIDENT LANG: GOOD EVENING EVERYONE, WELCOME TO OUR BOARD MEETING THIS EVENING, PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLPLEDGE O OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL." >> PRESIDENT LANG: SO, GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL, AND ALL MY FELLOW TRUSTEES FOR BEING IN ATTENDANCE. LOOKING FORWARD TO A PRODUCTIVE MEETING, WE HAVE A LOT TO ACCOMPLISH. I WANT TO BE SURE THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE. NOT ONLY FOR THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND OUR COMMUNITY, RECOGNIZING THAT WE DON'T ALWAYS AGREE. AND THERE'S ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING THAT WE HAVE IN COMMON AND IT'S A PASSION FOR HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS. THE PASSION IS EXACTLY WHAT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT NEEDS TO BRING FORWARD AND ACCOMPLISH A SUCCESSFUL PLAN. AN I'M HOPEFUL THAT AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE NEXT STEPS WITH THIS PLAN, WE WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH ONE ANOTHER AND WORK TOGETHER TOWARDS A COMMON GOAL, TO UNITE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS. I'M PERSONALLY COMMITTED TO HONESTY, TRANSPARENCY AND COLLABORATION. AND I KNOW THAT THE TRUSTEES THAT SIT BESIDE ME HERE TODAY ALSO EXPRESS THE SAME VIEWPOINTS. IT'S TRULY A PRIVILEGE TO BE WITH YOU TONIGHT. AND ON BEHALF OF THIS BOARD AND THE DISTRICT AS A WHOLE I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO HSE SCHOOLS. OUR DISTRICT STAFF AND STUDENTS ARE THE REASON WE GATHER AND THE REASON WE SERVE. AND THEY CONTINUE TO INSPIRE AND AMAZE ME [2. Snapshots of Success] AND MY FELLOW TRUSTEES EACH AND EVERYDAY. I WOULD LIKE TO TRANSITION TO THE SNAPSHOTS OF SUCCESS PORTION OF OUR AGENDA. AND BRING UP MS. EMILY ABBOTTS. >>> GOOD EVENING. I AM JUST THRILLED TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THIS NEXT GROUP, UM, IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW, HSE HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING SPORTS COMPETITIONS AND THEY'RE ALSO HOME TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AND THAT IS THE HSE ESPORTS CLUB. THEY'RE GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT WHAT ESPORTS IS, SOME OF THE GAMES THAT THEY'VE BEEN PLAYING AND THEY ARE CLUB SPONSOR HERE, KEATON SQUIRES IS THE ONE THAT STARTED THIS I BELIEVE IN 2021. I'M THRILLED TO BE ABLE TO HAVE YOU ALL GET INTRODUCED TO THIS GREAT GROUP OF STUDENTS AND I'LL INVITE THEM UP TO KIND OF TALK TO YOU ALL ABOUT IT. >> HI, MY NAME'S LUCUS AND I'M ONE OF THE TEAM CAPTAINS FOR -- SORRY. I'M ONE OF THE TEAM CAPTAINS FOR HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS VALORANT TEAM WHO RECENTLY TOOK HOME THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN VALORANT FOR THE EGH HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT VALORANT. I MEAN, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT, IT'S LIKE, I MEAN, OKAY. SO, I CAN COMPARE IT I'M GOING TO COMPARE IT TO A SPORTS TEAM. THE TEAMWORK THAT WE HAVE TO DO AND THE PRACTICE THAT WE WANT TO DO, WE PUT IN 10-15 HOURS A WEEK INTO PRACTICE TOGETHER WE SPEND HOURS UPON HOURS WORKING TOGETHER TO WORK OUT VARIOUS STRATEGIES TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN'T AND APPLY THAT TO OUR GAME PLAY AND TO TAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL IS REALLY SOMETHING. WE WENT INTEREST THE FIRST YEAR WE PLAYED WE CAME IN THIRD IN THE STATE WHICH WAS AWESOME AND NOW WE ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, IS JUST SOMETHING. (APPLAUSE) OKAY. LUCUS. DO I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. >> I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS. >> SO, I'LL ASK TWO QUESTIONS, ONE, THE MAKEUP OF THE GROUP, THIS IS ALL JUST, THE ROYAL'S TEAM IS IT ALL AGE GROUPS, FRESHMAN THROUGH SENIOR ON THIS TEAM? >> EVERYBODY'S ALLOWED ON THE TEAM AND I DON'T KNOW THERE'S HOW MANY DIFFERENT GAMES THAT WE PLAY. >> THAT WAS MY NEXT QUESTION, IS IT JUST SPORTS? >> THERE'S VARIOUS DIFFERENT GAMES THAT WE PLAY, A FEW OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, WE HAVE VALORANT TEAM MEMBERS, AND OVERWATCH TEAM MEMBERS, SO, VARIOUS VIDEO GAMES THAT WE COMPETE IN THROUGHOUT THE STATE LEAGUE AND THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. >> WHO CHOOSES THE GAMES? DOES THE COACH SAY, OR DO YOU PICK [00:05:05] WHAT YOU LIKE. >> KIND OF BOTH. THE LEAGUE SAYS THERE ARE GAMES THAT WITH CAN AND CANNOT PLAY, THERE ARE RULE, BUT, IT COMES DOWN TO POPULARITY, IF THAT MAKES SENSE. WHAT GAMES PEOPLE WANT IT PLAY AND WHAT GAMES PEOPLE DON'T. >> THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ROYALS. CONGRATULATIONS. >> THANK YOU. (APPLAUSE) . >> I JUST WONDERED IF YOU CAN ELABORATE FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW, I'M FAMILIAR WITH A COUPLE OF THOSE, LIKE, OVERWATCH, FOR EXAMPLE, I PLAYED WITH SOME GUYS IN THE ARMY AND MARINES AND THEY USE REAL LIFE TACTICS AND THINGS, IF YOU COULD ELABORATE ON THE TEAMWORK AND HOW YOU PRACTICE AND HOW IT MAYBE COULD HELP YOU IN OTHER SITUATIONS. >> SO, WITH VALORANT. I DON'T PLAY OVERWATCH PERSONALLY, BUT, VALORANT, WE HAVE TO TAKE DIFFERENT STRATEGIES, WE HAVE TO LEARN SIX DIFFERENT MAPS, LEARN INDIVIDUAL CALLOUTS FOR EACH SECTION ON THE MAP SO WE COULD COMMUNICATE WITH ONE ANOTHER ON WHERE THE ENEMY PLAYERS ARE. WHERE WE SHOULD PUT OUR ABILITIES TO ALLOW US TO FURTHER ADVANCE IN THE GAME. IT'S JUST ALL ABOUT COMMUNICATION SKILLS. TEAMWORK, AND, TEAM COMRADERY, I WANT TO SAY. LIKE, IF WE DON'T GET ALONG WITH ONE ANOTHER, THERE'S NOT GOING TO BE SUCCESS. AND IF WE CAN'T GET ALONG, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT. >> UM, THANK YOU. >> SO, CAN YOU REPEAT YOUR QUESTION, AGAIN? >> JUST TALKING ABOUT GENERALLY, I DON'T KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE FAMILIAR WITH HOW COMPLEX THESE GAMES HAVE BECOME AND THE STRATEGY AND THE TEAMWORK THAT YOU HAVE TO KNOW, THE MAPS THAT YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING AND HOW IT HELPS YOU. >> WE PUT 10-15 HOURS IN A WEEK, EACH OF US PRACTICE ON OUR OWN, WHETHER IT BE AGAINST OTHER PLAYERS IN A RANKED MODE OR CUSTOMED THAT WE PLAY OUT. FOR VALORANT, THERE ARE FIVE MAPS AND ONLY ARE IN THE CURRENT PLAY IN THE CURRENT POOL. SO, YOU HAVE TO ADAPT WHAT'S BEING PUT INTO THE GAME. THAT'S NOT DETERMINED BY US, IT'S DETERMINED BY THE LEAGUE, SO, IT'S RANDOM AND I FEEL LIKE THE TEAMWORK THAT WE HAVE TO PUT IN COMES FROM A LOT OF THE, SORRY, SO, BECAUSE IT'S RANDOM AND THINGS LIKE THAT, AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THE META, THE META BEING WHAT'S THE MOST OPTIMAL TO PLAY, I GUESS, WHICH WOULD BE SIMILAR TO FOOTBALL. I'M NOT SURE IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THAT, META, I GUESS IN FOOTBALL WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE HAVING TWO TIGHT ENDS AT THE TIME UP, LIKE, A WEAK SIDE AND A STRONG SIDE, STUFF LIKE THAT. YOU DON'T REALLY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, OR, YOU DN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, IT'S CHANGING. IN TERMS OF OVERWATCH, THE PRACTICE THAT GOES INTO THAT, IS CHOOSING WHAT HEROS TO PLAY, DIFFERENT CHARACTERS HAVE DIFFERENT ABILITIES. AND PRACTICING IS WHAT DETERMINES WHAT'S GOING TO BE GOOD FOR THAT SEMESTER OR PATCH OR STUFF LIKE THAT. BECAUSE, IT'S ALWAYS CHANGING BECAUSE THE DEVELOPERS ARE ALWAYS CHANGING THE GAME. >>> SO, HOW DID GAMING EVOLVE FOR YOU FROM STARTING OUT WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG TO FINDING OUT THAT THERE'S A TEAM-LEVEL SPORT? YOU KNOW, MY DOWYOUNGEST IS 12,D HE PLAYS A LOT, BUT, I DON'T THINK HE'S WITH A TEAM, HOW DID YOU EVOLVE TO A POINT WHERE YOU'RE ON A TEAM COHESIVELY AND YOU'RE COMPETING NATIONALLY. >> I THINK FOR ALL OF US IT STARTED AS A PASSION, A HOBBY, SOMETHING THAT WE LOVED TO DO. FOR ME, I STARTED WHEN I WAS 6 OR 7, WHEN I WAS YOUNG PLAYING WITH MY STEP DAD. AND I REALIZED I HAVE A PASSION FOR IT. I WANTED TO GET BETTER AT IT. LIKE, ANYTHING, IF YOU HAVE A KID WHO STARTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL AND HE LIKE IT IS, YOU PUT IN TIME TO GET BETTER. IT'S THE SAME THING WITH US. IT STARTED AS A HOBBY, AS A PASSION AS SOMETHING THAT WE LOVED TO DO AND WE REALIZED, HEY, I LIKE TO DO THIS, I WANT TO GET BETTER. THERE ARE A LOT OF TEAMS INDEPENDENTLY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD TO ENJOY. I FEEL LIKE HAVING A STABILIZED SYSTEM IN HSE, HELPED A LOT OF US REALLY JUST GET TOGETHER AND FIND PEOPLE THAT ARE LIKEMINDED AND IMPROVE AND PUT OUR SELVES TO THE TEST ON WHAT WE COULD ACHIEVE. >> SO, I SEE A LOT OF TROPHIES THAT YOU GUYS ARE HOLDING. CAN YOU GUYS EXPLAIN TO US WHAT ALL OF THOSE ARE? AND WHAT COMPETITIONS YOU EARNED THEM FROM, BECAUSE, THEY LOOK REALLY COOL. >> SO, FOR VALORANT, THE PLACE THAT IS I KNOW WE HAVE ARE, LAST YEAR WE DID THIRD PLACE IN STATE LEAGUE, WE DON'T HAVE A TROPHY FOR THAT. BUT, THIS YEAR WE HAD FIRST PLACE IN THE NATIONAL [00:10:02] LEAGUE, WHICH IS SCHOOLS FROM ALL OVER, PRIMARILY ON THE EAST COAST AND NEW JERSEY AND THERE ARE PEOPLE IN MAINE, CALIFORNIA AND TEXAS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. THIS MEANS THAT WE WON AND BEAT EVERY OTHER SCHOOL THAT SIGNED UP FOR THE EGFH LEAGUE WHICH IS A NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT FOR VALORANT. >> ALL RIGHT. HI, I'M TRAY JOHNSON, I'M THE CAPITAL OF THE OVERWATCH TEAM FOR ESPORTS. AND, FOR OUR TEAM, UM, IT'S A REALLY TEAM-BASED GAME. WE ALWAYS HAVE TO COLLABORATE WITH EVERYBODY. AND, LIKE HE SAID EARLIER, WE ALL KIND OF STARTED OUT WITH US JUST HAVING A HOBBY OR A PASSION. I KNOW THAT'S HOW I JOINED. I JUST PLAYED THE GAME A LOT AND I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A TEAM, SO, I JOINED IT, AND I WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. SO, I PUT IN THE WORK AND I WAS ABLE TO FIND SOMETHING THAT I'M REALLY STRONG AT. AND I FOCUSED ON THAT. AND, THEN, THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, I STARTED TO NOTICE EVERYBODY ELSE'S DIFFERENT STRENGTHS THAT THEY HAVE. SO, AS THE CAPITAL, I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO UM, JUST PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT EACH STRENGTH EVERYBODY ON THE TEAM HAS. AND, REALLY FOCUS IN ON THAT, SO THAT WE COULD BOUNCE IT OFF EACH OTHER AND MAKE LIKE A REALLY, UM, POSITIVE AND HARD-WORKING JUST, TEAM THAT WE HAVE THAT OH, YEAH, AND THE TROPHY. AND IT PAID OFF. >>> HELLO, I'M MAX TAYLOR, I'M THE TEAM LEADER OF THE SUPER SMASH BROTHERS ULTIMATE TEAM. SMASH IS THE OPPOSITE OF OVERWATCH WHERE IT'S TEAM BASED IN OVERWATCH, ON SMASH IT'S DEPENDENT ON THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER AND THEIR SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR SPECIFIC CHARACTER AND OF THEIR PLACES AND STAGES, WHICH IS THE LEVELS THAT THEY ARE GOOD AT AND WHAT OTHER CHARACTERS THEY'RE ALSO GOOD AT. AND REALLY, IT'S VERY INDIVIDUALLY BASED, YOU HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO IMPROVE ON YOURSELF WHENEVER YOU'RE PLAYING SUPER SMASH FOR THE ULTIMATE, BUT, IT'S STILL A VERY TEAM-FOCUSED THING. BUS, YOU HAVE PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER, LIKE ON MY TEAM, WE'LL COME ALONG, PRACTICE TOGETHER, GIVE US TIPS TELL US HOW WE CAN IMPROVE WITH OUR INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERS. BECAUSE, A LOT OF US PLAY ON SIMILAR STAGES AND WITH SIMILAR CHARACTERS, SOME OF US PLAY WITH PRETTY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS, AND WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO RAISE UP ALL OF OUR SKILL LEVELS AND GET UP TO THERE. THIS WAS FROM A TLE-THREE-WAY TOURNAMENT. WE GOT SECOND PLACE. I WAS PROUD OF US ON THE SUPER SMASH BROTHERS TEAM. UNFORTUNATELY, SOME OF OUR BEST PLAYERS GRADUATED, BUT, HEY, THAT LEAVES A LOT OF ROOM FOR US TO IMPROVE AND TO GROW. >> I ACTUALLY DO HAVE TO INTERJECT. HE SAID OUR PREVIOUS PLAYERS, ONE OF THEM WANTED TO BE HERE TONIGHT, HE GRADUATED. HE CALLED ME AND WANTED ME TO TELL YOU SPECIFICALLY HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT OUT OF THE FOUR YEAR I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL T IT WAS ONLY THE LAST TWO WHERE I FELT LIKE I HAD A PLACE. THIS WAS THAT PLACE. IT MEANS SOMETHING TO THESE KIDS THAT'S MORE THAN JUST PLAYING VIDEO GAMES, IT'S FRIENDSHIP, IT'S SOCIAL NETWORKING AND STEPS OUTSIDE OF THAT DIGITAL. >> COULD I ASK A QUICK QUESTION. IF TTHERE WERE WAYS O FURTHER SUPPORT THIS GROUP AND THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO HELP UTILIZE AND EXPAND, WHAT WOULD BE ON THE CHRISTMAS WISHLIST? >> WISHLIST? WOW, IS THIS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE? >> NO PROMISES, I'M JUST CURIOUS. >> WELL, I HAVE, I HAVE FILED GONE THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS FOR THE GRANT FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS ASKING FOR THE MONEY, THIS IS, IT'S SLIGHTLY EMBARRASSING TO SAY OUT LOUD, IT MAKES THE SCHOOL SOUND BAD, BUT, IT'S THE TRUTH, WE'RE THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE STATE AT OUR LEVEL THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE PLACE TO PLAY FROM. SO, ALL OF THESE KIDS GETTING SUCCESS, BUT, THEY'RE DOING IT, AND I DON'T WANT TO SAY ONE HAND TIED BEHIND THEIR BACKS BUT IT'S A L [00:15:07] ADVANTAGEOUS SITUATION. UNLIKE, CARMEL THEY PLAY TOGETHER AND THEY CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME. THESE KIDS PLAY FROM THEIR HOMES AND THEY'RE GREAT AT IT, THEY'RE WONDERFUL. AND WE STILL FIND PLACES TO CONNECT SOCIALLY. I APPRECIATE DESPITE ALL OF THIS DIGITAL UNIVERSE WE HAVE THIS PHYSICAL SOCIALIZING WITH EACH OTHER AS WELL. A LOT OF US HAVE SERVED TIME AT VARIOUS PLACES AND DONATED OUR PERSONAL MONEY TO STRIVE TOWARDS THAT GOAL, BUT, WE'RE STILL ONE-FIFTH OF THE WAY, TWO YEARS LATER, FROM THE 12 OR $13,000 TO GET ALL THE STUFF TOGETHER. BUT, UM, WE'LL TAKE, AS LONG AS IT TAKES, WE'RE STRIVING TOWARDS THAT BECAUSE THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A REASON TO WORK TOWARDS IT. >> THE THING HE'S REALLY ASKING FOR IS KIND OF COMPUTERS FOR US TO PLAY ON AT SCHOOL. AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY COMPUTERS EXACTLY. >> MORE THAN ONE. >> WELL, MORE THAN ONE. >> PERFECT. >> I'M SURE ALL OF US REMEMBER WHAT COVID WAS LIKE. IT WAS A WORLDWIDE EVENT, AND HOW HARD WAS IT TO HAVE THESE MEETINGS OVER ZOOM, RIGHT? IT'S THE SAME FOR US, WE'RE ALL AT HOME IN OUR PERSONAL SPACES PERFORMING SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN OUR PERSONAL LIVES. BY THAT, WHAT I MEAN IS THAT WE'RE IN A TEAM ENVIRONMENT BUT WE'RE BY OURSELVES, SO, IT CAN FEEL ISOLATING AT TIMES WHEN SCHEDULED DON'T LINE UP, OR, SOMETHING COMES UP WHERE I PERSONALLY, I HAVE TO GO HELP MY MOM WITH DOING THE DISHES OR CLEANING, BUT, IF I WERE AT SCHOOL HAVING THAT ENVIRONMENT AND HAVING THAT SET TIME EVERYDAY THAT I KNOW I HAVE THAT PRACTICE TIME, SIMILAR TO HOW BASKETBALL AND TRADITIONAL SPORTS WOULD, IT WOULD HELP THE CONSISTENCY AND HELP US ACHIEVE WHAT WE KNOW WE CAN. >> SO, CURRENTLY YOU'RE SAYING THERE'S NOT A FACILITY OR PLACE WITHIN OUR DISTRICT THAT YOU'RE SHOWING UP IN A ROOM AND BRINGING ALL OF YOUR -- SO, YOU WOULDN'T BE BRINGING LAPTOPS, YOU WOULD BE BRINGING COMPUTER STATIONS. >> WE WOULD BE BRINGING FULL DESK TOP COMPUTERS. AND TO ELABORATE ON THIS TROPHY. WE HAD THE SAME THING LAST YEAR, WHERE HSE CAME OUT ON TOP. WAY IT WORKS IS WE COMPETE ON ALL GAMES AND WHOEVE COMES OUT ON TOP IN THE END, THROUGHOUT ALL OF THEM, NOT JUST ONE, GETS THE LITTLE H, SIMILAR TO HOW IT IS IN TRADITIONAL SPORTS. >> AWESOME, THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> I'M DANNY CASSIDY, AND I'M A 2023 HSE GRADUATE. AND, IF I CAN JUST ADD A FEW SENSE IN HERE ALONG WITH THE PAST FEW TOPICS. WITH OUR COMPUTERS NEEDING TO BE IN A PHYSICAL SPACE, I THINK THAT IT'S JUST AS IMPORTANT FOR US TO ALL PRACTICE TOGETHER IN-PERSON AS IT WOULD BE AS A FOOTBALL TEAM. IT'S AS IMPORTANT FOR US TO GET THE FEEDBACK OF SEEING EACH OTHER LAUGH, OF GETTING THOSE ACTUAL CONNECTIONS, BECAUSE, IT MAKES YOU CARE MORE ABOUT YOUR TEAMMATES. IT MAKES YOU WANT TO STRIVE HARDER FOR THEM. IT'S A VERY TEAM-BASED GAME. IF YOU ARE LACKING IN ONE ASPECT, YOU MAY RELY ON ANOTHER TEAMMATE TO BRING YOU UP HIGHER IN THIS WAY. AND IT'S A LOT HARDER TO TELL WHERE YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES LIE IF YOU'RE NEVER COMMUNICATING AND IF YOU'RE VERY FAR APART. AND ON THE NOTE OF EVERYTHING BEING FAR APART, A LOT OF US WILL HAVE WI-FI ISSUES OR COMPUTER ISSUES WILL LIMITS OUR ABILITY TO PLAY THE GAMES AS WELL AS OTHERS. SO, IF WE HAD A PHYSICAL SPACE WHERE EVERYTHING WAS STANDARDIZED AND EVERYTHING WAS GIVING US THE ABILITY TO PERFORM BETTER, THAT WOULD BE INSANELY HELPFUL, LET ALONE THE EMOTIONAL SOCIAL ASPECT OF IT. LIKE, I NEVER JOINED ANY CLUBS, I NEVER HAD VERY MANY FRIENDS. THIS BECAME MY SPACE, THIS BECAME MY PEOPLE BECAUSE I ONLY NEW TECHNOLOGY AND WITH COVID AND EVERYTHING HAPPENING, IT ALL SORT OF FELL TOGETHER AT THE RIGHT TIME. AND I THINK IF WE PUT TOGETHER ENOUGH EFFORT AND WE REALLY NOURISH AND GROW THIS PROGRAM, I THINK IT COULD BE A HOME FOR A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE TOO. >> MAY I ASK ONE QUICK QUESTION ABOUT, AS WE, MAYBE, TRY AND AGAIN, NO PROMISES, IF WE COULD TRY TO LOOK FOR A SPACE OF SOME KIND, UM, DO YOU BRING YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT? I MEAN, EVEN IF YOU HAD A COMPUTER LAB WITH THE COMPUTERS, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAVE THESE GAMES, THE SOFTWARE, THE CONSOLES OR THE KEYBOARDS, WOULD YOU BRING YOUR STUFF? WITH YOU? IS IT YOUR PERSONAL [00:20:01] ITEMS THAT YOU GAME WITH? >> CAN I PIGGY BACK ON THAT, DOES CARMEL HAVE A COMPUTER LAB WITH THESE LOW LOADED? >> CARMEL, BEN DAVIS, PIKE. >> IT HAS COMPUTERS WITH THE GAMES LIKE ANY OTHER SPORTS WOULD HAVE EQUIPMENT? >> YOU COULD SAY LIKE WE'RE MISSING THE COMPUTERS, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE WE NEED JUST GENERAL COMPUTERS TO PUT IN THERE, BUT, THESE ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED MACHINES. I WOULD LOVE FOR THE MACHINES HAVE A DUEL PURPOSES FOR LIKE PROJECT LEAD THE WAY, THAT WOULD BE IDEAL. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT CAN BE DONE. I'VE BEEN TALKING WITH THE TECH PEOPLE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN, IT'S KIND OF WHAT YOU FIND. BUT THE SHORT ANSWER IS YES. THE OTHER SCHOOLS HAVE THOSE THINGS. I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT COST THEM, FRANKLY. I KNOW THAT I'VE SEEN ALL OF THEIR'S. BECAUSE, WE GO AND COMPETE THERE A COUPLE OF TIMES. AND, IT IS QUALITY MATERIAL. BUT, I MEAN, I DON'T THINK WE'RE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING OVER THE TOP. >> I KNOW THIS IS LIKE A SPOTLIGHT, BUT, AS A BOARD MEMBER SITTING HERE, AND I THINK WE'RE ALL THINKING IT, I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE PROCESS BEGINS OR STARTS IN AN INTERIM SITUATION, IS THERE A WAY TO DO RESEARCH TO SEE WHAT'S INVOLVED WITH THAT. I MEAN NOT SOMETHING IMMEDIATE BUT JUST TO COME IN AND DO THAT RESEARCH AND SEE WHAT THE OTHER PROGRAMS ARE AND WHERE SOME COSTS ARE AND WHAT IT ALL INCLUDES, AT LEAST SOMETHING THAT CAN COME TO US IN A FEW MONTHS AND GIVES YOU AN IDEA. >> ALSO, THE MAYOR JUST ANNOUNCED THERE'S $5,000 FOR THE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CITY. >> THE GRANT THAT I APPLIED FOR HAS VERY DETAILED BUDGETING INFORMATION IN IT. IN TERMS NOT JUST NUMBER OF MONEY BUT WHAT EACH PIECE WILL BUY. LIKE, THE ACTUAL, HERE'S THE GAMING COMPUTER PIECES BECAUSE WE TRY DO IT CHEAPER BY BUYING IT PIECE BY PIECE OTHER THAN BUYING IT AS A WHOLE. >> I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S SOMETHING FOR YOU TO DO? >> IN ALL HONESTY, I REALIZE I RUN THIS AND IT MAKES ME LOOK LIKE THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT I WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT. IN A LOT OF WAYS AT THE BEGINNING, I WASN'T, I'LL BE HONEST, I WAS COACHING SOCCER, BUT, AFTER THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A SOCCER COACH. THEY DON'T NEED ME. NO ONE WAS DOING THIS. AND, SO, I JUST I HAD TO STEP IN AND MAKE IT HAPPEN. BECAUSE, THAT'S WITH A WE TEACHERS DO FOR THE DISTRICT, RIGHT, THAT'S HOUR JOB. SO, UM, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BUILD A GAMING COMPUTER, BUT, YOU BET I'LL FIGURE IT OUT. AND I GOT THIS GREAT SQUAD OF KIDS WHO'LL HELP ME FIGURE IT OUT TOO. >> THAT'S WHAT SUZANNE WAS SAYING, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE, A BEST CASE SCENARIO WOULD MAKE US THE TOP OF THE TOP AND BARE MINIMUM TO ELEVATE THE PROGRAM MORE SO THAT WE COULD SEE THE OPPOSITE END OF THE SPECTRUMS AND MAYBE WE COULD GET IN THE MIDDLE OR PLAN AND ALSO IT'S COMMENDABLE FOR YOU TO STEP UP, SO, I APPRECIATE IT. >> I DO TOO, SO, WHAT I MEANT BY YOUR HOMEWORK IS WE'RE HEARING YOU. I THINK THIS IS IMP IMPRESSIVE. SO, NOW I'LL LEAVE IT FOR YOURSELF AND THE ADMINISTRATION TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING THAT CAN COME TO US IN A FEW MONTHS OR SO TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE. >> I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT. BECAUSE, YOU OBVIOUSLY HEARD HOW PASSIONATE THESE KIDS ARE ABOUT THEIR GAMES. AND I'M JUST PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT. I'M GLAD TO MAKE A SYSTEM AND A PLATFORM FOR THEM TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR THESE THINGS. THEY'RE GREAT AT IT. >> CONGRATULATIONS. >> AS YOU LOOK AT YOUR TEAM AND ALSO FISHER'S HIGH SCHOOL, WHAT IS THE NUMBER? >> I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT, YOU KNOW WE WANT TO TREAT THIS EQUALLY AS A DISTRICT. FISHERS 1 HAS A TEAM AND THEY HAD A TEAM LAST YEAR, THAT'S WHAT THE MUD SOCK TROPHY WAS FOR. IT FELT ONE-SIDED, I FELT DOMINANT IN TERMS OF THE PROGRAM. BUT, IT WAS JUST AT THE TIME. BECAUSE, LIKE, THEY WERE BUILDING AND WE WERE ALREADY THERE AT THAT POINT. THIS YEAR THEY LOOK TO STILL BE GROWING, AND, UM, LAST TIME I HEARD, THEY DO HAVE A NEW TEACHER THAT STEPPED UP FOR TAKING OVER THE PROGRAM OR WHATEVER. BUT, I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHERE THE SYSTEM'S AT RIGHT NOW. IT'S KIND OF LIKE, THEY MIGHT HAVE A GUY, I'M NOT REALLY SURE. SO, THEY'RE, THEY'RE, WHEREAS WE TRIED TO BUILD IT FROM THE GROUND UP AND GET THE FIRM FOUNDATION TO NOT JUST BE A SCHOOL CLUB BUT A PROGRAM, LIKE, [00:25:05] AT CARMEL, IT'S UNDER THEIR SPORT'S PROGRAM. NOT UNDER THEY ARE CLUB UMBRELLA. >> IS IT SPONSORED? DO YOU KNOW IF IT'S SPONSORED BY A COMPANY? >> LIKE AN ACTUAL SPONSORSHIP? >> THERE HAVE BEEN COMPANIES THAT I'VE REACHED OUT TO AND DONATED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED BUCKS, AND WE'RE THANKFUL BECAUSE THEY GOT US THINGS LIKE HELPING US RAISE THE MONEY NEEDED TO GO TO THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP OR FLORIDA OUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. THAT OVERWATCH TROPHY IS FOR THIRD PLACE AND IT TAKES A LOT OF MONEY TO GO TO ORLANDO. AND WE'RE GLAD TO DO IT AND THE SCHOOL HELPED US WITH THAT TRIP FOR THE TRAVELS. >> DO YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW THIS COULD BE A CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC. IF WE JUST DID A UNATURED FRONT, WE COULD BE STRONGER. >> WE BROUGHT THAT UP TOO, I WAS TALKING TO KIND OF THEIR HEAD KID, BECAUSE, I CAN'T REACH THEIR HEAD COACH/SPONSOR, HE'S A GHOST. >> HE'S GAMING. >> BUT, I KNOW HE DOES A LOT OF OTHER THINGS, TOO, I THINK HE COACHES AS WELL. AND, I FEEL BAD SAYING THIS OUT LOUD, BUT, AT LEAST ON MY END, THIS IS A SOLID 25-30 HOUR A WEEK JOB. ON TOP OF BEING A TEACHER WHICH COULD SOMETIMES BE TIME CONSUMING. SO, I KNOW IF YOU'RE COACHING AND DOING THIS, THAT'S PROBABLY PRETTY HARD. SINCE I'M NOT COACHING SOCCER, I MEAN, I ONLY RUN A COUPLE OF OTHER KID'S CLUBS LIKE D & D, I'VE NEVER PLAYED D & D, BUT, IT'S A THING THAT YOU DO TO CREATE THAT PLAT VERNAL FOR THE KIDS TO BE THEMSELVES AND HAVE THAT PLACE TO FEEL CONNECTED. BUT, I FORGOT WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY, BUT, THE OVERALL SYSTEM FOR WHERE THESE KIDS CAN COMPETE FROM IS PALPABLE. AND I'M GLAD THAT IT DOES EXIST, BUT, I JUST DON'T KNOW, LIKE YOU SAID, HOW TO CONNECT THE PIECES TO MAKE IT TO THAT GRANDER LEVEL OF SORT OF WHERE THINGS ARE. I'M ALWAYS OPEN TO HAVING THE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT TRYING TO GET THERE. BUT, I, YOU KNOW, I HOPPED INTO THIS FOR JUST SEEING THAT THERE WAS A NEED AND TRYING TO FILL THAT NEED AND HOPEFULLY, SOME OTHER PEOPLE WOULD EVENTUALLY DO THE SAME THING. I DON'T KNOW. >> THANK YOU. >> YOUR WELCOME. >> . >> PRESIDENT LANG: ANYMORE QUESTIONS? I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY, MAYBE THAT'S ON CONNECTION ON A INTRODUCTION MEETING TO SEE WHAT THEY NEED AND WHERE THEY NEED TO GO AND HELP TO STEER THEM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO GET THEM STARTED IN THE RIGHT USAGE. MS. DONSBACH MADE A SUGGESTION ABOUT FUNDING, MAYBE IF THAT CONNECTION COMES TOGETHER, THE DISTRICT CAN HELP STEER OR SUGGEST WAYS THEY CAN LOOK FOR FUNDING AND WORK TO FIND A PLACE. >> I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT ONCE AGAIN, I AM NOT SURPRISED BUT SO IMPRESSED WITH OUR STUDENT'S ABILITY TO STAND UP IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL BOARD AND A BUNCH OF STRANGERS IN A ROOM AND BE INCREDIBLY ARTICULATE. ONE MIGHT SAY, A STEREOTYPE MIGHT BE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE GAMERS AREN'T WONS TO SPEAK OUT IN PUBLIC. BUT, I'M SO IMPRESSED ABOUT THE FACT THAT ALL OF YOU GOT UP AND SPOKE SO ELOQUENTLY AND COMFORTABLY IN FRONT OF A ROOM FULL OF STRANGERS, AND THAT MAKES ME BROAD AS A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER OF OUR STAFF THAT WE'RE TEACHING KIDS HOW TO BE PUBLIC SPEAKERS AND THAT ALL OF YOU WERE HERE AND WERE ABLE TO COME AND SPEAK, I THINK THAT'S FANTASTIC. >> THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. >> CONGRATULATIONS. (APPLAUSE) [00:30:53] >> PRESI (APPLAUSE) >> PRESIDENT LANG: WHAT YOU DON'T WANT TO SIT AROUND FOR THE PUBLIC COMMENTS? WELL, THERE ISN'T ANY, SO, IT'S ALL GOOD. SO, WE HAVE NO ONE SIGNED UP FOR PUBLIC SPEAKING TODAY. SO, [4. Consent Agenda] MOVING ONTO OUR CONSENT AGENDA. YEAH, IT'S A MIRACLE. THERE ARE THREE ITEMS PRESENTED ON THE CONSENT AGENDA, ITEM 4.01, BOARD MINUTES, 4.02, CERTIFICATE AND SUPPORT STAFF REPORTS AND 4.04 CLAIMS, PAY ROLL, AND SALARY REDUCTION AGREEMENTS. DO I HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS ITEM AS PRESENTED. >> EXCUSE ME, MADAM PRESIDENT, I WILL THINK THERE WAS A REQUEST TO HAVE EACH OF THE ITEMS 4.1, 4.2, AND 4.3 SEPARATED. DO YOU NEED A MOTION FOR THAT? >> PRESIDENT LANG: YES, PLEASE. >> OKAY. I MOVE THAT ITEMS 4.1, 4.2, 4.03 ARE VOTED ON SEPARATELY. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE A SECOND? >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ALL RIGHT, STARTING WITH ITEM 4.01, BOARD MINUTES. >> I MOVE TO APPROVE ITEM 4.01, BOARD MINUTES. >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: MOVING FOR A VOTE. STARTING WITH BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? YES. >> JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> YES. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. DAWN LANG? YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IT PASSES 7-0. MOVING TO ITEM 4.0 # 2. >> I MOVE TO APPROVE 4.02 CERTIFIED AND STAFF AS PRESENTED. >> PRESIDENT LANG: CALLING FOR AN VOTE. BEN ORR? >> NO. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: I'M A YES. >> ITEM 4.03. >> MADAM PRESIDENT I MOVE TO APPROVE ITEM 4.03, CLAIMS PAY ROLL FOR SALARY REDUCTION AGREEMENT AS PRESENTED. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE A SECOND. >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: OKAY. I GOT BEN AS SECONDFUL CALLING FOR A VOTE. BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. >> JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> YES. >> SARAH PARKS-REESE? >> YES. [5. Action Items] >> PRESIDENT LANG: AND I'M A YES, PASSES. MOVING ONTO ACTION ITEMS. SUBJECT 5.01, STUDENT REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIPS, THE PAY SCALE. >> GOOD EVENING, MADAM PRESIDENT, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, ATTACHED TO THE BOARD DOCKS ON THE AGENDA FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR OFFICE OF APPRENTICESHIP DOCUMENT THAT ALLOWS HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS TO HOST OUR FIRST EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL APPRENTICESHIP THIS SCHOOL YEAR. THANKS TO THE PURSUANT INSTITUTE, WE'RE EXCITED TO PROVIDE THIS TO THE FIRST HSE STUDENT, MS. CATHERINE KAISER. WE PLAN TO SHOW YOU THE WORK THAT SHE'S ALREADY BEEN DOING AT BROOKS SCHOOL ELEMENTARY AND PRESCHOOL AND CHILD CLASSROOM. ON PAGE FOUR PROVIDED IN THIS FED APPRENTICESHIP THE GOAL IS FOR THERE TO BE LITTLE TO NO TUITION COST TO THIS STUDENT COMBINING THIS PROGRAM WITH ADVANCED COURSES AND COURSE WORK THAT'S ALREADY OFFERED AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL. A STUDENT IN THIS REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP CAN COMPLETE THEIR ENTIRE YEAR AND THEREFORE EARN THEY ARE TEACHING DEGREE IN THREE YEARS. AGAIN WITH CONSIDERABLE COST SAVINGS, ADDITIONAL, THE STUDENT IS GUARANTIED A PLACEMENT IN HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS. OBVIOUSLY OUR GOAL IS TO GROW OUR OWN EDUCATOR TALENT AND RETAIN THAT TALENT. AND OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE MS. KAISER ON YOUR CONSENT AGENDA AS A NEW [00:35:02] HIRE IN 2028. I'M HAPPY TO ADDRESS ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE. >> I JUST WANT TO SAY HOW MUCH I LOOK FORWARD TO THIS PROGRAM. YOU E-MAILED US ABOUT THIS EARLIER, I THINK IT'S A FANTASTIC WAY TO GROW OUR OWN. FILL OUR PIPELINE, IT'S TOUGH TO RETAIN TALENT IN ALL AREAS THROUGHOUT EDUCATION AND EVERYTHING, HONESTLY. WHAT A GREAT WAY TO KEEP OUR OWN HERE AND GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITIES AND HOPEFULLY, THEY PICK US AT THE END OF THIS THING. SO, I REALLY APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT'S GONE INTO IT. >> AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY, I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT. >> I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE TO APPROVE THE STUDENT APPRENTICESHIP PAY SCALE AS PRESENTED. >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL RIGHT. CALLING FOR THE VOTE. BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? >> YES. >> TIFFANY PASCOE? >> YES. JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: AND I'M A YES, MOTION PASSES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: SUBJECT 5.02, SOLAR PROJECT PROVIDER RECOMMENDATION, MR. BOB RICE. >> GOOD EVENING, BOARD, JEFFERY, WILL YOU RUN THE POWERPOINT. SO, WE COULD SKIP STRAIGHT TO THE END AND YOU VOTE YES. OR I CAN GO THROUGH IT. I WANTED TO GIVE A QUICK ENERGY UPDATE ABOUT THE SOLAR PANELS THAT WE HAVE. EXPLAIN WHAT THE GUARANTIED ENERGY SAVINGS CONTRACT IS BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE NORMALLY GO THROUGH AND MAKE THE RECOMMENDATION. SO, IF JEFF WOULD CLICK. SO, HSE IS A LARGE DISTRICT, FOURTH LARGEST IN THE STATE, 21,000 PLUS STUDENTS, 24 CAMPUSES, 4 MILLION SQUARE FEET AND TAKES A LOT OF ELECTRICITY AND NATURAL GAS TO POWER THE BUILDINGS. THE CHART THERE SHOWS OUR ENERGY USE FROM 2016-2022 IN 2016 WE SPENT $4.1 MILLION, AND IN 2022 WE PENT $4.8 MILLION. HOWEVER, WE HAVE OPENED TWO NEW ELEMENTARIES ADDED 200,000 SQUARE FEET OF BUILDINGS UNDER ROOF AND WE'VE ALSO ADDED SOME SOLAR RAYS THE ONE THING THAT I WANT TO POINT OUT IS THAT FIRST COLUMN. THE ELECTRICAL USE, IN 2016 WE USED 39 MILLION KILOWATT HOURS. IN 2022, WE USED 31 MILLION KILOWATT HOURS, WE ADDED 200 SQUARE FEET AND USING LESS ELECTRICITY, BUT, DUKE INCREASED OUR RATE. AT THE PEAK LAST YEAR, WE WERE SPENDING $0.15 PER KILOWATT HOUR. LIKE DRIVING A CAR, YOU CAN CONTROL HOW MANY MILES BUT NOT THE PRICE OF THE PUMP. THE PRICE OF THE PUMP CONTINUES TO GO UP. SO, WE NEED TO FIND A WAY TO REDUCE OUR OVERALL USAGE. AS A DISTRICT, WE'RE ABLE TO DO THAT BECAUSE WE HAVE AN AMAZING FACILITY STAFF AND GREAT PARTNERSHIPS WITH OUR VENDORS, WE HAVE A CFO WHO IS SUPPORTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM AND INITIATIVES AND WE HAVE STAFF AND STUDENTS WHO HAVE BOUGHT INTO THIS AND ARE DOING THE SMALL THINGS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. 21,000 STUDENTS DOING THE RIGHT THING IS SAVING US MONEY AS A DISTRICT. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE. LIKE I MENTIONED, OUR ENERGY COSTS, PRICE PER KILOWATT IS INCREASES. DUKE IS SAYING THEY MIGHT HAVE A PLATEAU THIS YEAR. BUT, IN THE LONG SCHEME IT WILL CONTINUE TO GO UP. SO, WE NEED TO FIND WAYS TO HEDGE OUR BETS TO SAVE AND REDUCE OUR ENERGY COSTS. NOW, A QUICK SOLAR UPDATE. WE CURRENTLY HAVE SOLAR RAYS AT SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY AND INTERMEDIATE AND HAMILTON ELEMENTARY JUNIOR HIGH. THE ENERGY USED IN BLUE AND THE PRICE WE PAID. WHEN THE POWER'S TURNED ON, IT'S CLEAR BY THE PRICE. IN 2019 WE INSTALLED THE RAYS AND TURNED THEM ON AND WE'RE SEEING ABOUT A 300,000, $310,000 SAVINGS PER YEAR ON AVERAGE. LAST MONTH, THE POWER BILL FOR SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY AND ENTER MEDIATE AND THE HEDGE COMBINED WAS UNDER $160. >> SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY, SAND CREEK INTERMEDIATE ELECTRIC BILL WAS UNDER $160 PER MONTH. >> THAT'S UNBELIEVABLE. I'M SORRY, I GOT TOLL INTERRUPT YOU. SO, AGAIN, THREE BUILDINGS, THAT'S CHEAPER THAN THE COST AT MY HOUSE. AND I DON'T LIKE IN A GREAT HOUSE. >> AND MAINLY THOSE, WE'RE STILL CONNECTED TO DUKE'S GRID AND WE HAVE TO PAY A CONNECTION FEE. AND THAT'S A MAIN CHUNK OF THAT $160. THIS IS PART OF A GUARANTIED ENERGY SAVING THE CONTRACT. THE COMPANY SAID BY INSTALLING THESE YOU'RE GOING TO SAVE $300,000 A YEAR AND WE'RE SAVING MORE THAN THAT EACH YEAR. [00:40:05] BUT, THERE'S A GUARANTY THAT IF WE DON'T, IF THE RAY IT IS SOMEHOW MESS UP, THERE'S A BAD YEAR, A LOT OF STORMS, THE COMPANY PAYS US THE DIFFERENCE IT'S A GUARANTY. THE SOLAR IS ALSO A CURRICULUM. I PUSH INTO CLASSROOM, I WAS A FORMER SCIENCE TEACHER, I'M A RECOVERING TEACHER, KEG HIRED ME AND HAS BEEN STUCK WITH ME FOR YEARS. I GO INTO CLASSROOMS, TOMORROW I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT SECOND GRADERS AT GEIST ELEMENTARY. SOME OF THE PICTURES UP THERE ARE FROM FISHERS HIGH SCHOOL. THE NATIONAL ENERGY SCHOOLS FOR THE STATE BECAUSE OF THE PROJECTS THEY'RE DOING. DUKE ENERGY HAS AWARDED US GRANTS BECAUSE OF OUR INITIATIVES. SO, RENEWABLE ENERGY, AND, ELECTRICITY IS BECOMING STANDARD IN A LOT OF THESE CLASSROOMS AND STUDENTS ARE LOVING IT. IT'S CREATING A GOOD PATHWAY FOR THEM FOR FUTURE JOBS. >> CAN I ASK YOU A QUICK QUESTION, BEN AND I ARE FORTUNATE THAT WE GET A LOT OF INFORMATION THROUGH OUR COMMITTEE MEETING. I COMMEND YOU AND ALL THE WORK THAT YOU ARE DOING. AS YOU TALKED ABOUT SCHOOLS REALLY QUICK, CAN YOU TELL US, ARE THERE OTHER SCHOOLS IN OUR STATE, ARE THERE MANY OTHERS THAT DO IT TO THIS CAPACITY, SUPPORT SOLAR, I MEAN IN THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY? >> SO, INDIANA IS ACTUALLY RANKED TOP 10 PER CAPITA FOR SCHOOLS WITH SOLAR POWER. THE FIRST SCHOOL TO MY KNOWLEDGE IN INDIANA TO GO SOLAR WAS SHERIDAN. AND SINCE THEN, SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN GOING ON. I PROBABLY GET A DOZEN CALLS A YEAR FROM OTHER SCHOOLS USING US AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW WE WENT SOLAR. I WENT TO OTHER DISTRICTS ABOUT GOING SOLAR I'VE BEEN ASKED TO TALK AT THE STATE HOUSE TO TALK ABOUT SOLAR AND HOW IT BENEFITS OUR STUDENTS AND THE BUDGET. THIS IS GROWING AND I THINK SCHOOLS WILL CONTINUE TO DO THIS BECAUSE IT HELPS OFFSET OPERATION COSTS. THE STATE SAYS YOU HAVE CERTAIN BUCKETS THE MONEY HAS TO FLOW OUT OF, SOLAR ALLOWS YOU TO TAKE MONEY OUT OF DEBT SERVICES AND THEN WE CAN ACTUALLY KEEP MONEY IN THE CLASSROOM, HELP PAY TEACHER'S SALARY WHILE FUNDING THE SOLAR. I ALWAYS THINK ABOUT IT AS A HOUSE, I CAN TAKE MY HOME HE CAN QUIT AND INSTALL SOLAR, MY MORTGAGE WON'T CHANGE BECAUSE I'M TAKING IT OUT OF MY EQUITY, BUT, I HAVE THE EXTRA MONEY FROM NOT PAYING MY ELECTRIC BILL. SO, IT'S FREEING UP FUNDS. >> THANK YOU FOR SHARING. >> SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PR OPPORTUNITY. >> I HAVE A QUESTION, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PAY OFF THESE SOLAR PANELS? >> THE THREE RAYS WAS $2.8 MILLION TO INSTALL AND WE'RE SAVING OVER $300,000 A YEAR. LAST YEAR IT WAS $340,000. SO, WE'RE LOOKING AT LESS THAN 10 YEARS OF PAYBACK. THE PANELS ARE GUARANTIED FOR 20 YEARS, MOST PANELS STAY IN FUNCTION FOR 30 YEARS. IF YOU PAY IT OFF IN 10 YEARS, YOU GET 10 YEARS FREE POWER PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS IF MAINTENANCE IS KEPT UP ON THEM. ALL RIGHT. GUARANTIED ENERGY SAVINGS CONTRACTS ARE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. INDIANA CODE 3612.5 SPELLS IT OUT. YOU SELECT A PROVIDER, AND THAT PROVIDER THEN GIVES YOU A PROPOSAL SAYING, HEY, WE CAN SAVE THE DISTRICT MONEY BY DOING XY AND Z AND THEN YOU ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT FOR THAT PROJECT. THERE'S NO UP FRONT COST IN SELECTING YOUR PROVIDER. SO, TONIGHT, WHEN I ASK FOR APPROVAL, THERE'S NO MONEY BEING SPENT TONIGHT. I'LL COME BACK FOR ANY PROJECTS THEY SAY WE CAN SAVE YOU MONEY ON. AND YOU'LL GIVE APPROVAL ON SPECIFIC PROJECTS. JEFF, GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, IT KIND OF SHOWS A PICTURE OF THE BARS ON THE RIGHT SHOWS HOW THIS WORKS. OUR OPERATION BUDGET IS GREEN. THE COMPANY IS GOING TO SAY, IF YOU DO THIS PROJECT, WE'RE GOING TO REDUCE YOUR OPERATION COST. THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT A LITTLE BIT OF THAT CUT, THAT SAVINGS E THAT'S HOW THEY GET PAID AND WHEN THE PROJECT'S PAID OFF, IT ALL BECOMES SAVINGS. SO, WITH THAT SAID, GOING TO MY LAST. OH, TWO SLIDES. I WAS WRONG. SOME OF THE PROJECTS THAT ARE GUARANTIED ENERGY SAVINGS CAN DO IS SOLAR RAYS, BOILERS, CHILLERS, LIGHTING, MOTORS, INSTALLING A VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES, HVAC CONTROL, HVAC IMPACTS AIR QUALITY WHICH IS A HUGE EMERGING TOPIC. IT CAN GO BATTERY STORAGE, RETRO [00:45:01] CONDITIONING, IT CAN TOUCH EVERY PART OF THE BUILDING, EVERYTHING THAT FACILITIES CAN DO. I'M HEAR TO RECOMMEND THAT THE BOARD APPROVING TWO QEMMS. A MERESCO AND SNYDER ELECTRIC FOR PROVIDERS OF THE SOLAR RAYS. AMERESCO AND SNYDER ELECTRIC ARE CONSIDERED LEADING IN THE ENERGY FIELD BY GREENHOUSE INSIGHTS. THEY'RE NATIONAL FIRMS THAT OFFER MANE RESOURCES, THEY'VE BEEN IN THE GUARANTIED ENERGY RESOURCES FOR 20 YEARS, AND IN THE SOLAR ENERGY BUSINESS FOR 15 YEARS, THEY BOTH HAVE AMAZING SAFETY EFFORTS. I'M HEAR TO ASK THAT YOU APPROVE BOTH AS QUALIFIED PROVIDERS FOR THE DISTRICT. >> ARE THOSE REDUNDANT? >> WE HAVE FIVE RESPONSES, ALL FIVE ARE GREAT COMPANIES, THE SELECTION COMMITTEE MET AND REVIEWED THEM ALL. AND BASED ON THE INPUT FROM THE SELECTION COMMITTEE, SNYDER ELECTRIC, AND AMERESCO LEFT TWO OFF. AS A DISTRICT THIS LARGE, SOMETIMES WE CAN BOG DOWN A VENDOR FOR IT THEY HAVE MULTIPLE PROJECTS THEY DON'T HAVE THE CAPACITY FOR US, SO, IT LET'S US LOOK AT TWO AND FOR ME, HAVING TWO, IT KEEPS THEM HONEST, THEY CAN'T RAISE ONE RATE, BECAUSE, THEY KNOW IF THEY'RE NOT GAG TO SHARPEN THE PENCIL, I'LL GO TO SOMEONE ELSE TO SHARPEN THE PENCIL FOR ME. >> I WOULD LIKE TO COMMEND YOU ON THAT, THIS IS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE PUBLIC SETTING WITH BIDS, BUT, I WORKED IN CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY FOR A LONG TIME, AND YOU APPROVE ONE LOW BIDDER AND CHANGE ORDERS HAPPEN AND DIFFERENT THINGS HAPPEN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR STUCK. I THINK THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO GO ABOUT OUR BUSINESS, WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE OPTION, WHETHER THAT'S SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES OR COST OPTIONS. >> LIKE I SAID, THERE'S NO COST TODAY, THIS ALLOWS THEM TO DO PROJECTS AND PRESENT US PROJECTS WHICH WILL GO TO THE FACILITIES COMMITTEE TO FINANCE AND ULTIMATELY TO YOU FOR FINAL APPROVAL. >> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A PLOWINGS. SO, I MOVE TO APPROVE SNYDER ELECTRIC AND AMERESCO AS CALL IDENTIFIED PROVIDERS OF ONE SOLAR RAYS COMPLETION OF OTHER RAYS. UNDER THE CONTRACT PRESENTED. AND THANK YOU TO THE PERSON WHO WROTE THAT OUT. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE A SECOND. >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE ANY OTHER DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS. BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. >> SARAH PARKS-REESE? >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? >> YES. >> AMENDMENT TO SSC CUSTODIAL AS AGREEMENT. TONIGHT I'M HERE FOR APPROVAL OF THE CUSS STOWEDIAL CONTRACT. IT'S A WE HAVE ATTRITION. CUSTODIAL CONTRACT. WE LOST ONE FLOATING HEAD CUSTODIAN AND CUSTODIANS AT FISHER HIGH SCHOOL. WE DID ADVERTISE THIS ON OUR WEBSITE AND ON INDEED.COM. AND WE HAVE NO RESPONSES SO WE HAD TO FALL BACK ONTO OUR CURRENT CUSTODIAL PROVIDER FOR THESE. JUST AN UPDATE ON THE CUSTODIAL CONTRACT OR EMPLOYEES. CURRENTLY, THE; SS SSC THIS HELPS OFF SET OUR NEEDS AND THEIR'S AND I ALSO WANTED TO TELL YOU, BUT, LET ME REITERATE, IT WAS ONE FLOATING HEAD CUSTODIAN AND FOUR ADDITIONAL CUSTODIANS AT FISHER HIGH SCHOOL. A MEMBER OF THE BOARD ASKED ME ABOUT THE STUDENTS WORKING THERE. WE DO HAVE THREE STUDENTS WORKING IN OUR BUILDINGS. ONE OF THEM IS WORKING HALF TIME AT FISHERS HIGH SCHOOL AND WE HAVE TWO AND-A-HALF POSITIONS AT HSE HIGH SCHOOL. AND THERE ARE POSITIONS OPEN AND WE KEEP ADVERTISING AND HOPEFULLY WE'LL GET THEM FILLED. I'M HERE TO ASK FOR APPROVAL FOR THE AMENDMENT. >> WE COVERED SOME OF THIS, THE [00:50:07] EMPLOYEES WILL BECOME ACTUALLY EMPLOYEES OF SSC. WE'RE APPROVING THEM TO HIRE THEM ON OUR CONTRACT? >> YES, SIR. >> OKAY. >> I WILL MAKE THE MOTION. I MOVE TO APPROVE THE AMENDMENT NMBER 3 TO THE SSC CONTRACT AS PRESENTED. >> PRESIDENT LANG: DO I HAVE A SECOND? >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? CALLING FOR A VOTE. BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? >> YES. >> TIFFANY PASCOE? >> YES. >> SARAH PARKS-REESE? >> YES. SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: I'M A YES. MOISTURE MANAGEMENT ROOF INSPECTION AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, MR. MATT. >> I'M HERE TO ASK THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH MOISTURER MANAGEMENT, THEY'VE BEEN MONITORING OUR ROOFS AND A PARTNER OF OUR'S SINCE 2007. THAT'S 16 YEARS. AS I SAID EARLIER WE HAVE 4 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF ROOF TOP THAT WE NEED TO INSPECT. THIS CONTRACT IS THE FIRST TIME COMING HERE, BECAUSE, NORMALLY WE SPLIT IT UP BETWEEN THE BUILDINGS, BUT, THIS, WE COMBINE TO MAKE ONE GENERAL MASTER AGREEMENT WITH THIS COMPANY. THIS CONTRACT WILL ALLOW THEM TO INSPECT THE ROOFS AND MAKE MINOR REPAIRS AS NEEDED WHILE THEY'RE THERE INSTEAD OF COMING BACK AND ASKING THE TIME AND THE MONEY WASTING ALL OF THAT WHILE THEY'RE THERE. ROOFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE. AS ANYBODY KNOWS, YOU GET A ROOF LEAK IT FILTERS ALL THE WAY DOWN. AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT ONE ROOF LEAK OVER A GYMNASIUM FLOOR, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A MAJOR CATASTROPHE. TONIGHT I'M ASKING THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH MOISTURE MANAGEMENT. THE ANNUAL COST IS $294,563. ANNUALLY. >> I'LL MAKE ONE MORE COMMENT. AGAIN, STEALING FROM OUR COMMITTEE MEETING TODAY, I'M NOT GOING TO HAVE ANYTHING LEFT FOR MY REPORT. THAT'S PROBABLY GOOD. THE OTHER THING THAT THIS HELPS TO OFF SET IS INSURANCE COSTS. WE'RE RENEWING OUR SEMI COMMERCIAL INSURANCE FOR PROPERTY IN JANUARY. HAVING A PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM IN PLACE CAN OFFSET THE PREMIUM AND ALSO IF WE WANTED TO LOOK AT RAISING DEDUCTIBLES WHEN WE'RE SPENDING A MILLION PLUS ON INSURANCE, A 10 OR 15% DISCOUNT WITH HELP. A GREAT PLAN TO PUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN AND WE'LL APPRECIATE IT AND I KNOW THAT OUR UNDERWRITERS WILL APPRECIATE IT AS WELL. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE A MOTION. >> I MOVE TO APPROVE THE MOISTURE MANAGEMENT GUARD SERVICE AS PRESENTED. >> PRESIDENT LANG: IS THERE A SECOND. >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? CALL FOR THE VOTE. BEN ORR? >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? >> YES. TIFFANY PASCOE? >> YES. >> DR. JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> YES. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: AND I'M A YES. >> WE DID HAVE FULL DISCUSSION IN THE BUDGET MEETING SO ANYBODY WANTING MORE INFORMATION ON 5.03 OR 5.04, YOU'LL HEAR SOME OF THOSE UPDATES IN THE MINUTES OF OUR BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING. THANK YOU. >> SO, 5.05 PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE. MR. CHRIS GRAYSEL. >> THANK YOU, FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION TONIGHT ARE TWO PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENTS FROM ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE. RECEIVE WITTEN HOUR THE OWNER OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES AGREEMENT IS HERE TONIGHT. ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE IS A CONSULTING FIRM COME PRIZED EXCLUSIVELY OF FORM EARLY PUBLIC SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS AND ADMINISTRATORS WHO SERVE PUBLIC SCHOOL CORPORATIONS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF INDIANA. ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANT WILL PROVIDE SERVICES TO HELP WITH THE INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT. TH STEVE WHITENHOWER TO FURTHER DISCUSS HIS FIRM AND BOTH CONTRACTS UP HERE TONIGHT. >> THANK YOU, CHRIS, IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO BE HERE THIS EVENING TO TALK WITH YOU ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES OF WITH A WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE. JUST TO GIVE A BRIEF [00:55:02] HISTORY, ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR OUR 15TH YEAR. WE'VE BEEN IN 170 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE INDIANA. WE'VE HELPED TWO-THIRDS OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS. OUR MOTTO IS TO HELP SCHOOLS SOLVE PROBLEMS. WE ALL HAVE PROBLEMS. I HEARD SOMEONE SAY THEY WERE A RECOVERING TEACHER, I'M A RECOVERING SUPERINTENDENT. SO, WHEN I STARTED THE BUSINESS 16 YEARS AGO AS IT WAS JUST TO GIVE BACK TO EDUCATION ALL THAT I HAD RECEIVED AS AN ADMINISTRATOR, TEACHER, COACH, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS OVER MY MANY YEARS IN EDUCATION, MY WHITE HAIR TELLS YOU I'VE BEEN AT IT FOR AWHILE. WE'RE PLEASED TO OFFER THIS SERVICE TO YOU. WE'VE DONE MANY SEARCHES OVER THE PAST 16 YEARS, THIS WOULD BE A TRANSPARENT SITUATION WHERE WE WOULD BE GETTING INFORMATION WITH YOU, FOR YOU, TO YOU. WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS YOU SEE FIT. WE'LL WORK ON A TIMELINE ON HOW THIS WILL ALL WORK. MY NUMBER ONE GOAL IS TO WORK WITH YOU. YOU ARE MY BOSS WHEN IT COMES TO THIS SEARCH OF I CERTAINLY WANT TO HELP MATT AS HE NAVIGATES THE TOUGH JOB OF SUPERINTENDENT, FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THIS OPPORTUNITY, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER THOSE NOW. >> I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. THESE ARE THE RESUMES FOR THE TEAM HELPING US. ARE THESE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT WE TALK ABOUT YESTERDAY? >> SOME OF THEM ARE AND SOME AREN'T. SO, IF WE DO OTHER PROJECTS, I WANTED TO BRING FORTH THOSE RESUMES AS WELL. THERE ARE THREE THAT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GATHER, BUT, I WILL BY FRIDAY. ERIC RODY WAS ONE OF THOSE. >> MARK KEEN. >> AND SHAWNA FINELY WAS THE THIRD. >> IF THEY DO BECOME INVOLVED. THEY HAVE THE CREDENTIALS TO DO THE JOB. ALL OF OUR 40 OR SO PEOPLE ON THE TEAM HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS. THEY'VE HELPED US TO FER A REPRESENTATION OVER THE STATE OF INDIANA FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS. THOSE ARE THERE AND WE WILL CERTAINLY PROVIDE THE OTHERS AS WE GET THEM. >> I WANTED TO POINT OUT WE HAVE TWO DIFFERENT CONTRACTS FOR US. ONE, WELL, BOTH ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. I WANT TO FOCUS ON THE ONE FOR THE SUPPORT FOR DR. KEGLEY, WE'RE DOWN SOME POSITIONS RIGHT NOW, AND HE NEEDS ALL THE HELP HE CAN GET. AND MATT, WE'RE INCREDIBLY THRILLED TO HAVE YOU ON BOARD AND LEADING THIS THING IN THE TIME OF TRANSITION. CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT ASPECT, AND SOMEONE WOULD BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT, WHO ARE THOSE PEOPLE? WHAT KINDS OF SERVICES CAN THEY HELP WITH? >> WHAT WE'LL DO IS HAVE SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN SUPERINTENDENT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME IN AND HELP MATT WITH WHATEVER MATT SAYS HE NEEDS HELP WITH. AND IT WILL BE WHATEVER DAYS MATT SAYS THAT HE NEEDS. SO, THERE'LL BE SOMEBODY HERE PHYSICALLY AND THERE'LL ALSO BE PEOPLE THAT HE CAN CALL. SO, WHEN YOU GET ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE, YOU NOT ONLY GET IN IN CASE SOMEONE TO HELP HIM, BUT, YOU GET THE WHOLE 40 PEOPLE. IF THERE'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN'T HELP OUT WITH WITH THE PERSON HERE, WE'LL HAVE SOMEBODY WHO HAD THAT EXPERIENCE AT SOME POINT SO THAT WE COULD CONTINUE TO OFFER THAT SUPPORT FOR MATT. WHATEVER MATT WANTS, WE'LL TRY TO PROVIDE. >> I THINK IT'S PERFECT AND THAT'S WHAT I REALLY WANTED TO MAKE CLEAR IS YOUR EXPERIENCE OF YOUR TEAM IS INCREDIBLE. BUT, MATT'S OUR SUPERINTENDENT RIGHT NOW. SO, I WANT TO BE SURE THAT WE'RE REALLY WORKING AT HIS DISCRETION AND WHATEVER HE NEEDS. MATT'S IN THE LEAD AND WE'RE NOT BRINGING IN SOMEBODY ELSE TO TELL HIM WHAT TO DO, ESSENTIALLY, HE'S OUR GUY. >> ABSOLUTELY. AND MATT, I THINK, KNOWS THAT HE CAN REACH OUT AND WE'RE ONLY THERE TO SUPPORT HIM LIKE AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT TO HELP HIM WITH THINGS THAT MAYBE HE DOESN'T HAVE EXPERIENCE IT. I'VE TOLD PEOPLE BEFORE, REALLY QUICK EXAMPLE MY DAUGHTER WAS AN ASSI ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH AND SHE WANTED TO BE THE VARSITY VOLLEYBALL COACH. WE WANT TO HELP MATT. WE'RE NOT GOING TO TELL MATT WHAT TO DO, THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE'RE GOING TO HELP MATT [01:00:02] WITH WHATEVER HE WANTS US TO HELP HIM WITH ON A DAILY BASIS. >> SOUNDS GOOD. THANK YOU. >> WITHIN THE CONTRACT THAT IS OBVIOUSLY PUBLIC, THERE IS A SET WHERE IT SAYS UNTIL EFFECTIVE DATE, WE'VE DISCUSSED TO HAVE A CHECK-IN BETWEEN DR. KEGLEY AND US TO ENSURE THAT THINGS ARE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. IS >> YES AND THAT CONTRACT CAN END WHENEVER IT NEEDS TO END. SO, IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU ARE TIED TO FOREVER. WHEN WE THINK OR YOU THINK OR MATT THINKS THAT HE DOESN'T NEED HELP ANYMORE OR WHATEVER, THEN THAT CONTRACT IS UP ENDED. >> THANK YOU. I WANTED TO BE SURE THAT THE PUBLIC HEARD THAT. >> AND I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT IT IS TWO SEPARATE ACTUAL CONTRACTS, SERVICES FOR OUR INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT TO HAVE SUPPORT IN WHATEVER HE NEEDS AT THIS TIME UNTIL WE MOVE FORWARD WITH AN ACTUAL SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. SO, WE LOOK AT THE SECOND CONTRACT AND THERE'S TWO HERE TALKING ABOUT UTILIZING THE COMPANY AS WELL FOR OUR SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. >> THAT'S CORRECT. >> AND SO, THIS IS JUST IN FRONT OF US RIGHT NOW IS THE CONTRACT SAYING THAT WE'RE UTILIZING YOUR SERVICES BUT NONE OF THE TERMS, PER SE ARE IN IT, THIS IS JUST ABOUT THE FUNDING OR THE COMPENSATION AND THAT WE'RE UTILIZING YOUR SERVICES? >> THAT'S CORRECT. AND WE'LL WORK WITH YOU ON TIMELINES AND THIS THAT AND THE OTHER. ALL YOU ARE AGREEING TO THIS EVENING IS THAT ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE WILL BE THE PROVIDER OF THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. SINCE WE'RE HAVING THE DISCUSSION AND MAKING THE COMMENTS HERE. I KNOW NO MOTION HAS BEEN SAID AT THIS POINT. BUT, I JUST WANT TO SAY I'M NOT IN FAVOR OF A SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH CONTRACT ACTUALLY AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW. AS FAR AS THE FUNDING GOES AND WHAT'S INVOLVED IN THE CONTRACT, I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH ON THE COMPANY AND I SUPPORT THE COMPANY. AND I SUPPORT THE FIRST CONTRACT IN ASSISTING DR. KEGLEY. BUT, BECAUSE, I BELIEVE THE TIMELINE IS TOO AGGRESSIVE. I KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAYING THIS IS ABOUT FINANCIAL AND THE TIMELINE. BUT, I'VE TALK WOULD FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND I FEEL LIKE THE TIMELINE CURRENTLY CHATTED ABOUT IS TOO AGGRESSIVE. BUT, THE BOARD HAS PREVIOUSLY STATED THAT THEIR SOUL FOCUS IS PASSING THE REFERENDUM AROUND I BELIEVE THAT SHOULD REMAIN OUR PRIORITY. THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH WHICH BEGINS NOVEMBER 8TH CAN HAPPEN AFTER THE REFERENDUM VOTE. SO, I'VE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL WITH MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS WHERE I FEEL WITH THAT. SO, I FEEL THAT I CAN SUPPORT THIS CONTRACT IF I KNEW THERE WAS A CONSENSUS OF OUR BOARD THAT OUR ACTIONS ARE NOT REALLY TAKING PLACE ON OUR SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH UNTIL AFTER WE PASS THE REFERENDUM. >> WE WORK AT YOUR DISCRETION. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ABSOLUTELY AND THOSE ARE TERMS AND DETAILS THAT CAN BE IRONED OUT AFTER IT'S APPROVED. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SERVICES THAT YOU PROVIDE. I THINK THAT YOU ARE DEFINITELY QUALIFIED TO COME FORWARD AND HELP UPLIFT OUR DISTRICTS AND THE NEEDS WE HAVE AS WE DO OUR SEARCH. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING THIS PROCESS STARTED AS I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS STAFF AND ALSO BEGIN MAKING PROGRESS ON SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. I WANT TO THANK DR. KEGLEY FOR HIS PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROCESS. HE'S BEEN OPEN AND TRANSPARENT AND HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH YOU THAT HAVE BEEN COMMUNICATED WITH US. BUT, I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE THAT WE KNOW THIS INITIATIVE WILL TAKE TIME AND ONCE APPROVED THAT YOUR ORGANIZATION WILL BEGIN IMPLEMENTING THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH PROCESS. HOWEVER THAT THE BULK OF THIS WORK WILL BEGIN IN MID-NOVEMBER. SO, THIS SHOULD ALLEVIATE SOME OF THE CONCERNS THAT MS. THOMAS EXPRESSED AND THAT WE'RE COMMITTED TO A TRANSPARENT PROCESS. WE WILL BE WORKING WITH YOU AND ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT WILL BE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC. IN THE MEANTIME IT'S CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE CURRENT UPCOMING REFERENDUM AND KNOWING THAT WE CHAMPION THE REFERENDUM AND IT'S SUCCESS. FUNDING FOR HSE WILL REMAIN A FOCUS FOR THIS DISTRICT AS WILL THE LEADERSHIP SUPPORT FOR OUR DISTRICT AS WELL. ANYTHING ELSE THAT ANYONE ELSE WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT? >> YEAH. I JUST WANT TO REITERATE THAT IF I HAVE TO MAKE IT AS A MOTION, THEN, I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE TO SEPARATE THE TWO CONTRACTS AND VOTE ON THEM SEPARATELY. I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE A SECOND, BUT, I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE TO SEPARATE THE CONTRACTS AND VOTE ON THEM [01:05:03] SEPARATELY. >> I HAVE ONE OTHER COMMENT THAT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE AND THAT IS, IT'S IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A PROCESS THAT YOU'RE GOING TO FOLLOW. I HAVE A BIG MEETING NEXT WEEK THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THIS PROCESS. CAN'T GIVE THEM A TIMELINE, I UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT, IF THEY KNOW, THAT I AND ADMINISTRATOR ASSISTANCE IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS, THAT WILL ONLY HELP US GARNER ATTENTION AND NURTURE THAT AS WE GO FORWARD SO THAT WHEN THAT OPENS UP AND WE START TO ACCEPT THOSE APPLICATIONS, I'VE DONE GROUNDWORK FOR FOLKS TO KNOW WHAT THE SITUATION IS THAT WE HAVE AND IT'S A VERY GOOD SITUATION HERE, I THINK IT WILL BE A VERY ATTRACTIVE POSITION, I WOULD BE SHOCKED IF THERE WERE NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WOULD CONSIDER THIS POSITION. >> I TRULY AGREE WITH YOU, THAT WE'RE CONSIDERED A SOUTH OUT DISTRICT ONE OF THE TOP TWO IN THE STATE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT POSITIONS THAT WOULD BE SOUTH AFTER TO GO. SO, I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THE TALENT POOL COMING THROUGH, PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE WANTING TO HAVE IT. BUT, THEY, TOO, WILL BE WATCHING TO SEE IF OUR REFERENDUM PASSES. AND I WAS JUST HOPING BY COMMUNICATING WITH MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS THAT OUR ACTION AND SUPPORT IS PASSING THE REFERENDUM AND NOT HAVING ANY ACTIONS REALLY TOWARDS THE SUPERINTENDENT HIRE. I KNOW THAT WE HAVE TO POST IT. THAT'S FINE. I'M IN SUPPORT OF THAT. BUT, JUST KNOWING THAT IF I KNOW THAT I HAVE A CONSENSUS AND WE'RE WORKING ON THIS, THE MAJORITY OF THE ACTIONS WILL HAPPEN AFTER THE REFERENDUM THEN I'M ABLE TO SUPPORT THE CONTRACT GOING FORWARD. AND I HAVE NOT HEARD THAT FOR SURE. >> PRESIDENT LANG: THAT IS WHAT I STATED, MID-NOVEMBER IS EVER A THE REFERENDUM. THE REFERENDUM VOTE IS NOVEMBER THE 7TH. >> THAT'S WHEN YOU SEE THE BOARD TAKING ACTION, IS AFTER. >> PRESIDENT LANG: WE WILL LIKELY TAKE ACTION AFTER THAT. >> THAT'S WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR, THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> AND I AGREE SUZANNE, I SUPPORT DR. KEGLEY, MOVE ON PAST THAT AND WE'LL TAKE FURTHER ACTION. >> SO, WE CAN POST THE POSITION, WE JUST WON'T HAVE A TIMELINE UNTIL AFTER THE REFERENDUM. >> THANK YOU, SIR. >> YOUR WELCOME. >> PRESIDENT LANG: SUZANNE DO YOU WANT TO TAKE AWAY YOUR MOTION TO SEPARATION, OR, DO YOU WANT TO KEEP THEM SEPARATE STILL? >> I WILL RESPECTFULLY REMOVE THE MOTION. >> CAN I MAKE A MOTION? >> PRESIDENT LANG: YES. >> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE FOR BOTH THE MENTORING PROGRAM FOR DR. KEGLEY, AND FOR ASSISTANCE WITH OUR SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. >> PRESIDENT LANG: DO I HAVE A SECOND? >> SECOND. >> PRESIDENT LANG: ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION COMMENTS BY THE BOARD? HEARING NONE, CALL FOR THE VOTE. BEN ORR? >> I APOLOGIZE, THIS IS A MOTION TO PASS BOTH? >> PRESIDENT LANG: CORRECT. >> YES. >> SARAH DONSBACH? >> YES. >> TIFFANY PASCOE? >> YES. >> DR. JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> YES. >> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> AND IN EXPLAINING MY VOTE IT IS THAT I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN WHAT THE BOARD SHARED TONIGHT THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE ACTION ON FURTHER ACTION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT'S SEARCH UNTIL AFTER THE REFERENDUM, I WILL VOTE YES. >> PRESIDENT LANG: AND I'M A YES. MOTION PASSES 7-0. >> ON BEHALF OF OUR COMPANY, APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH YOU, LOOKING FORWARD WITH THIS, IT'S AN EXCITING TIME TO START SOMETHING NEW. TO MOVE YOU FORWARD, IT'S THE IMPORTANT THING AS WE START SOMETHING NEW, WE'RE ANXIOUS TO GET THE JOB DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. THANK [6. Information Items] YOU VERY MUCH. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE. >> THANK YOU. >> MOVING TO INFORMATION ITEMS, SUBJECT 6.01, FINANCE UPDATE. MS. KATIE DOWLING. >> GOOD EVENING, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR. KEGLEY. I WANTED TO GO THROUGH THIS FIRST, BECAUSE WE TALKED ABOUT IT IN FINANCE COMMITTEE, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC TO GIVE THEM AN IDEA OF WHAT THE BUDGET IS. THERE ARE THREE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE BOARD TO REVIEW THE OVERALL BUDGET PLAN. AND SO, THE 26TH, NEXT WEEK WILL BE THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY WHERE WE'LL GO THROUGH THE DISTRICT FINANCIAL PLAN. IT'S A LOVELY 185-PAGE DOCUMENT THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL POUR OVER INCESSANTLY. AND WE THEN HAVE TO POST THINGS ON THE WEBSITE AND THE FIRST PUBLIC HEARING IS OCTOBER 11TH, YOUR FIRST MEETING IN OCTOBER. AND THEN THE ADOPTION CONSIDERATION IS ON THE OCTOBER 25TH MEETING. WE HAVE TO ADOPT BEFORE NOVEMBER ON NOVEMBER FIRST OR EARLIER [01:10:05] BASICALLY. WE ADOPT LATER BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN WE HAVE THE MOST KNOWN FACTORS IN HAND. COUNT DATE IS OCTOBER 2ND. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW A LOT OF THINGS. ON TOP OF THAT, THE BARGAINING TIMELINE HAS CHANGED INTERNALLY. SO, WE'RE NEGOTIATING LATER WHICH WILL BE HELPFUL TO HAVE THIS TIMELINE TO GO ALONG WITH THAT. BUT, JUST IN CASE THE BOARD HAD QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE BUDGET TIMELINE, I JUST WANT THE TO PRESENT THAT TO YOU. WE DID DISCUSS IT IN FINANCE COMMITTEE TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. IT GIVES OVER, JUST OVER AROUND A MONTH OF TIME IN BETWEEN ALL OF THE INITIAL PRESENTATION BEFORE THE ACTUAL ADOPTION. >> AND JUST TO BE CLEAR, EVEN ONCE WE ADVERTISE, WE CAN STILL MAKE CHANGES UP UNTIL THE DAY WE ADOPT, RIGHT? >> WE CAN MAKE CHANGES TO THE INDIVIDUAL LINE ITEMS. WE CAN NOT INCREASE THE MAXIMUMS THAT WE'VE ADVERTISED. SO, IF WE ADVERTISE A LEVEE OF X AND A TAX RATE OF Y, THAT'S WHAT IT IS. SO, THAT CAN'T CHANGE. THE OVER ALL BUDGETARY NUMBERS CANNOT CHANGE BUT SOME THINGS WITH SHIFT IF THERE ARE THINGS THAT COME UP IN OUR DISCUSSIONS. >> DO YOU FEEL ON THE 26TH WE'LL BE GETTING THAT MAJORITY OF THAT ARE INFORMATION. THE 26TH, THAT LONG, THREE-HOUR MEETING WE'RE GOING TO BE GETTING THE MAJORITY OF UNDERSTANDING WHAT... >> YES, I BELIEVE THAT'S WHAT I SAID TODAY AT THE FINANCE COMMITTEE. YES. THE 26TH IS WHEN WE GO TRUE THE OVERALL DISTRICT FINANCIAL PLAN. >> AND SO, THE TIME AFTER THAT THAT'S BETWEEN THE 26TH AND THE 8TH IS MORE FORMALITY TIME THAT HAS TO GO OUT FOR THE PUBLIC HEARING AND FOLLOWING THE FORMALITIES? BUT, WE'LL HAVE INFORMATION BY THE 26TH? >> THAT'S CORRECT. >> THAT'S ALL I'M CLARIFYING. >> THANK YOU. >> SO, BEFORE JEFF PULLS UP THE NEXT PIECE, I THINK WE'RE TRYING TO GET A GOOD FEEL FOR WHAT THE BOARD IS COMFORTABLE HAVING HERE AND ALSO KNOWING THAT I'M QUITE CERTAIN YOU DON'T WANT ME TO SIT UP HERE AND TALK TO YOU EVERY MONTH FOR 45 MINUTES. I KNOW THAT MR. ORR'S OKAY WITH IT, I'M NOT SURE THAT EVERYBODY ELSE IS. WE'RE GOING TO GO THROUGH THE REFERENDUM FUND. IF YOU REMEMBER, I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEAT A DEAD HORSE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS DISCUSSION. WE DON'T TRANSFER ANY MONEY FROM OUR OPERATIONS FUND. THAT IS WHAT ALL SCHOOLS IN THE CORPORATION ARE DOING. WE KEEP ALL OF OUR EDUCATION FUND MONEY IN THE EDUCATION FUND. MR. ROITER FELT LIKE IT WAS IMPORTANT GIVEN THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE LIVES HERE THAT WE NEEDED TO KEEP THAT IN THAT FUND TO DEMONSTRATE THAT WE WERE MAXIMIZING IT. SO, THE REFERENDUM ALLOWS US NOT TO HAVE TO TRANSFER FUNDS INTO OPERATIONS. SINCE 2016, THE REQUIREMENTS FOR REPORTING HAVE CHANGED. SO, OUR '24 BUDGET WILL LOOK DIFFERENT WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I ASKED FOR THREE HOURS BECAUSE WE HAVE TO COVER THE NUANCES BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO LOOK DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE'RE USED TO. THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THAT IS GOING FORWARD WE'LL BE ABLE TO LITERALLY RUN A BUDGET TO ACTUAL REPORT AND ATTACH IT TO THE WEBSITE, ITEMIZED OUT FOR THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE THAT WE'VE SAID AS WE GO FORWARD WITH THE REFERENDUM. I SAY THAT AS A QUALIFIER BECAUSE NOW WE'LL GO INTO THE REFERENDUM FUND DETAIL TO SEE IF THAT IS THE LEVEL OF DETAIL THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AS A BOARD, OR MAYBE YOU WANT THE SUMMARY AND THE WANT THE DETAIL POSTED. I'M NO SURE WHAT THAT BALANCE IS, WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT TONIGHT, IT WILL ONLY BE AN HOUR. THAT'S SAD BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GET THROUGH THE WHOLE EDUCATION FUND IN THE FINANCE MEETING. SO, >> THAT IS NOT LIKE WE SAY, OKAY, DR. KEGLEY WOULD LIKE TO SAVE THIS MONEY FOR NEXT YEAR. WE HAVE TO HAVE A LITERAL INVOICE OR A BILL OF SALE TO SAY [01:15:03] WE'RE GOING TO INCOUPLE BETTER THOSE MONEYS AND CARRY THEM FORWARD. WE DON'T JUST TO CARRY IT OVER AND USE IT WHEREVER WE WANT. IT HAS TO BE TIED TO A VENDOR. AND THAT IS THE REVISED BUDGET. THE YEAR TO DATE PRORA -- PROATA. THE YEAR TO DATE PERCENTAGE. SO, YOU COULD SEE WE'RE SLIGHTLY UNDER WHERE WE WANT TO BE AT BEING THE HALFWAY POINT FOR THE YEAR. IN THE EDUCATION FUND, WE'RE A LITTLE BIT OVER AND THAT'S WHERE SOMETIMES WE SHIFT THINGS BETWEEN THE FUNDS TO LEVEL IT OUT. AS YOU LOOK THROUGH HERE, YOU COULD SEE THE ACCOUNTS ON THE EXPENDITURE SIDE, THOSE ARE ALL ACCOUNTS MANDATED BY THE STATE BOARD OF ACCOUNTS. THOSE ARE NOT ACCOUNT NUMBER THAT IS WE PICK, THOSE ARE IN THE ACCOUNTING MANUAL FOR US. THERE ARE A LOT OF OPERATION'S EXPENSES IN HERE BECAUSE WE DON'T TRANSFER 15% OF THE DISTRICT EDUCATION FUNDS TO THE OPERATION'S FUND. SO, THIS SORT OF BRIDGES THAT GAP. SO, YOU CAN SEE THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AS ARE SCHOOL PSYCHS THAT DO THE TESTING AND DIAGNOSIS FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. YOU COULD SEE BOARD OF EDUCATION IS IN THERE, EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATION. SOME OF THAT IS ME, IT'S THE SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE, THERE'S HR PIECES. BECAUSE, NONE OF US CAN COME OUT OF EDUCATION. YOU COULD SEE DOWN THE LINE, THE OPERATIONS AND AREA, BUILDING MAINTENANCE, SECURITY SERVICES IS ACTUALLY ALREADY IN THERE, THAT'S SROS, AS WELL AS TRAFFIC AND SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS WE DO. AS WELL AS INSURANCE. SO, I THINK MY QUESTION, AND I REALIZE THIS IS IT DUEL, BECAUSE, I FEEL LIKE FINANCE COMMITTEE, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, WILL GO INTO MORE DETAIL THAN WHAT WE'LL DO HERE. WHAT I WANT TO UNDERSTAND FROM THE BOARD IS IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT ME TO REVIEW IN THE PUBLIC MEETING OR DO YOU WANT THE SUMMARY ATTACHED FOR THE PUBLIC TO REVIEW. AND YOU DON'T IS TO ANSWER ME MOW, LET DR. KEGLEY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE PREFERENCES ARE. I DON'T WANT TO WAIST TIME WITH A REPORT IF IT ISN'T ADDRESSING THE THINGS THAT YOU FEEL LIKE NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS IS A LEVEL OF DETAIL WE CAN GET INTO AND AS WE DID IN THE FIRST FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING, WHEN THERE'S A SPECIFIC AREA WE WANT TO LOOK INTO. THERE WERE REPORTS ATTACHED ON BOARD DOCS TO DIG INTO 11030 WHICH IS ELEMENTARY. THAT'S SORT OF HOW WE USED THE FINANCE COMMITTEE TO DIG INTO THOSE THINGS, SO, THIS IS SORT OF ONE LEVEL REMOVED FROM THAT. >> SO, FOR CLARIFICATION, PLEASE, FOR ME. THIS IS JUST THE BUCKET, IF YOU WILL. REFERENDUM BUCKET EXPENDITURES? >> AND REVENUE. >> SO, THERE'S NOT LIKE, A PAGE 2, OR ANYTHING, THIS IS IT IN THE REFERENDUM BUCKET? >> THAT IS CORRECT. >> OH. IF I COULD ASK, SOME OF OUR REFERENDUM -- >> NO. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> PART OF OUR REFERENDUM, WE'RE ADVERTISING FOR ADDITIONAL SROS, AND TEACHING STAFF FOR THE CLASS SIZES, THOSE ARE IN ADDITION TO THESE THINGS. SO, SOMETHING HAS TO BE COMING OUT, I ASSUME. >> SO, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHICH I'M SURE EVERYONE WILL TUNE IN ON THE 26TH, THE 11TH, AND THE 27TH SO WE COULD GO INTO IF IN DETAIL. WE'LL HAVE TO SHIFT THINGS BETWEEN THE FUNDS. FOR EXAMPLE, SECURITY SERVICE SUNSHINE IN THERE, BUT, REALLY, SROS ARE A SUPPORT SERVICES FUNCTION. WE'LL IDENTIFY THE AMOUNT WHICH IS SROS THAT WE WOULD PUT IN THE SUPPORT SERVICES, IT WOULD BE A LINE ITEM WITHIN THE REFERENDUM. WE'LL KNOW BASED ON MR. LAKE AND MR. JOHNSON'S IMPLEMENTATION PLAN, HOW MANY SROS WE'RE FUNDING IN THE 2024. AND THE THINGS THAT ARE TRAFFIC, SECURITY IN THE BUILDINGS, LIKE, GAMES AND THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT WE MIGHT BE REIMBURSED, THOSE WILL BE MOVED TO OPERATION FUNDS. WE'RE GOING TO TRANSFER AN AMOUNT OUT OF EDUCATION INTO OPERATIONS AND IN THEORY SHOULD TIE BACK GENERATES THAT WE WILL MOVE OUT OF EDUCATION. THE GOAL THERE IS IT'S A NET ZERO. >> IF WE LOOKED AT EVERYTHING RIGHT AND WE'RE STILL DEVELOPING THE PRELIMINARY BUDGET, OVERALL, IT WILL BE LESS AT THE END OF ALL OF THIS. I THINK WE'LL GENERATE LESS, WE THINK, BUT, I WILL LIKE FOR AT THE END OF THIS PROCESS ON THE NEW BUDGET, FOR, AS YOU SAID THAT THOSE ARE TRULY [01:20:11] REFERENDUM ITEMS THAT WE'RE NOT USING BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO TRANSFER OUT OF EDUCATION INTO PRIGSS. >> WE'RE REQUIRED TO DO IT NOW. >> AT THE END OF NEXT YEAR, SEE IT IF I'M SAYING THIS RIGHT. IF WE PULLED UP OUR REFERENDUM FUND AND TO RUN THIS SAME REPORT IT WILL TRULY BE REFERENDUM GENERATED FUNDS AND EXPENSES. >> YOU WOULD SEE 11050 WHICH IS KINDERGARTEN. THE NUMBER WE'RE ATTRIBUTES TO CLASSROOM SIZE. ONE 12 IS JUNIOR HIGH, 113 IS HIGH SCHOOL, THE SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING. IT WILL ALL TIE BACK EXACTLY THE WAY THAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING. YES, SIR. >> BECAUSE, I THINK SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN TOUGH FOR US TO WORK THROUGH, AGAIN, AS NOVICES HERE, THE IDEA THAT WITH THE WAY THE FUNDING BUCKETS WORK, AND OUR DESIRE TO NOT TRANSFER FROM EDUCATION, WE'RE KIND OF MOVING THINGS AROUND SO THAT IT ALL WORKS OUT TOGETHER. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT AT THE END OF THE PROCESS TO BE CLEANER SO WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE TRULY RELYING ON THE REFERENDUM FOR, SO, IF WE HAD A DPOEL OF REDUCING THAT RATE IN THE FUTURE SOMETIME, WHAT IS THAT TRULY AFFECTING. >> THAT'S FAIR. >> SO, I THINK IT'S A NICE WAY TO DO IT. >> IT WILL BE CLEAR, TOO, AND I THINK FOR OUR PURPOSES. THERE'LL BE A TIEBACK BROADLY TO HOW WE JUSTIFY THE TRANSFER, RIGHT? BY LAW, YOU CAN TAKE UP TO 15% WITHOUT ENDING UP ON THE NAUGHTY LIST, WHICH IS WHAT THE STATE DOES IF YOU'RE OVER 15. WE DON'T WANT TO BE AT 15, WE ONLY WANT IT TO BE WHAT'S EQUAL TO WHAT WE'RE MOVING. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT RIGHT NOW OPERATIONS IS TRANSFERRING MONEY INTO EDUCATION. EDUCATION FUND TRANSFER WILL BE LITERALLY, I'LL BE ABLE TO SAY, OKAY, WELL, IT'S $24 MILLION IS THE LEVEE, MINE NOWS THE 1.5 WE WERE TRANSFERRING BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO HIT THEM TWICE FOR THAT. IT WILL BE CLEAR AND TO BE FAIR, THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT I'LL HAVE TO PRODUCE IN BARGAINING TO DEMONSTRATE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR HOW THAT IS DERIVED. WE DON'T WANT IT JUST TAKE 15% TO TAKE IT, WE WANT TO KEEP AS MUCH FUNDS IN THERE AS WE CAN. IT WILL BE A LOT CLEANER. I THINK MY QUESTION BROADLY FOR YOU ALL IS, IS THIS THE LEVEL OF WHAT YOU ACTUALLY WANT ME TO GO THROUGH, OR, IS THE SUMMARY REPORT THAT I WAS DOING SUFFICIENT AS LONG AS THIS IS ATTACHED FOR THE BOARD AND THE PUBLIC'S REVIEW. THAT'S WHAT -- YOU KNOW, DO YOU WANT ME TO GO THROUGH EACH OF THESE LINE ITEMS EVERY MONTH, OR, DO YOU WANT ACCESS TO THEM FOR THE PUBLIC, FOR YOU, AND THEN WHEN YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, YOU CAN POSE THOSE WHEN I'M DOING THE SUMMARY, AND THAT'S WHAT I KIND OF WANT TO UNDERSTAND. >> AND YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FOR LIKE NEXT YEAR. >> NO, I'M TALKING ABOUT NEXT MONTH. >> MONTHLY REPORTS. >> WELL, I GOT TO HAVE A PRELIMINARY QUESTION, FIRST, BECAUSE, THIS RIGHT HERE WOULD WOULD BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THAT FROM OPERATIONS AND EDUCATION FUND AS WELL? >> YES. >> WITH THE SUMMARY? SO, YOU'RE SHOWING IN THAT QUESTION THAT YOU ARE ASKING, IT'S NOT JUST THE REFERENDUM ONE, BUT, YOU'RE SAYING FOR ALL THE BUCKETS. >> WE HAVE ALL OF THESE FOR THE FUNDS, YES. I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO GO THROUGH ALL THREE OF THEM BECAUSE IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME, THIS WAS A MORE FOCUSED ONE AND BECAUSE IT'S REFERENDUM AND IT'S A GREAT TIME TO TALK ABOUT IT TO SAY, AGAIN, I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PUTTING THESE REPORTS ON BOARD DOCS, WE CAN DO THAT. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU INTENDED FOR ME TO GO THROUGH, EVERY MEETING FOR, YOU KNOW, I KIND OF JOKE, BUT, IT'S PROBABLY A GOOD 20-25 MINUTES IF YOU REALLY GO THROUGH THEM. OR IS THAT WERE FINANCE WILL COME IN. YOU JUST WANT THEM ATTACHED AND ACCESSIBLE, SO, I WANT TO BE SURE FOR OUR BENEFIT THAT WE'RE ON ON THE SAME PAGE. YOU'RE GETTING WHAT YOU WANT AND WHAT THE PUBLIC WANTS. >> FOR ME, FOR THE 26TH MEETING, I WILL LIKE TO SEE THAT, BUT, MONTHLY, I WOULD SAY PERSONALLY, THE SUMMARY WITH THE INFORMATION ATTACHED. >> 26TH WILL BE A 185-PAGE DOCUMENT. >> PRESIDENT LANG: THAT'S A WORK SESSION. >> I'M ONLY ASKING FOR MONTHLY BECAUSE I HAVE CATCH UP TO DO, I'LL HAVE ANOTHER PRESENTATION IN JULY FOR YOU, AND IF THE SUMMARY'S FINE WITH THIS DATA PROVIDED, THAT'S WHAT I'LL DO AND IT WILL LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THIS, JUST, MAYBE LONGER FOR EDUCATION FUND. >> I THINK THAT'S SUFFICIENT. >> I'M FINE WITH THAT, BECAUSE, KNOWING IT WILL COME TO OUR COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND EVEN IF WE RUN OUT OF TIME, BECAUSE, YOU [01:25:04] KNOW I RUN A TIGHT SHIP THERE. THEY'RE ALWAYS ATTACHED AND ON BOARD DOCS AND ACTUALLY, SOME OF THESE ALREADY ARE FROM COMMITTEE THIS TIME AND EVEN THE ONE WE MISSED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. >> AND QUESTIONS CAN BE BROUGHT UP AT THESE MEETINGS. >> AND IN THIS PROCESS, I THINK WE TALKED ABOUT ADDING ONE MORE AFTER OUR WORK SESSION JUST TAB SURE WE GET THIS RIGHT IT'S ONE OF OUR BIGGEST RESPONSBILITIES. >> BECAUSE, YOU GUYS LOVE BUDGET DISCUSSIONS. I KNOW, I DO TOO. >> PRESIDENT LANG: WE LOVE NUMBERS. >> I TRY TO TELL PEOPLE, IT'S THE MOST FUN COMMITTEE, BUT, NOBODY BELIEVES ME. BUT, COME ON IN. >> OKAY. CAN WE GET THE LIST T THE FIRST LIST THE DATES AND TIMELINE, CAN YOU E-MAIL THAT TO US. >> I THINK IT'S ON BOARD DOC FROM FINANCE COMMITTEE. I'LL BE SURE THAT EVERYTHING GETS ATTACHED ONTO BOARD DOCS. AND I'LL PLAN ON THE 27TH TO HAVE THE FINANCIAL, AND WE'LL HAVE A DRY RUN. THE NEXT ITEM IS LINE TWO, JUST FOR EVERYBODY'S BENEFIT, WE WERE ACTUALLY ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO NEGOTIATE LAST WEEK, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON GENERALLY WITH THE ASSOCIATION, WITH US, WITH REGULATION FROM THE STATE AND SO, WE AGREED MUTUALLY THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO WAIT UNTIL LATER INTO OCTOBER TO NEGOTIATE. SO, WE SET UP THOSE DATES BETWEEN HSE, THE DISTRICT AS WELL AS MR. CLAG WHO IS THEIR LABOR ATTORNEY. AND WE MOVED THIS MEETING BECAUSE WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE IN A PLACE TO DO THE PUBLIC HEARING ON THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT, SO, I APOLOGIZE, THAT'S MY FAULT, I ASKED FOR THE METEDING TO BE MOVED. SO, NEXT MONTH IT WILL BE OUR PUBLIC HEARING TO TAKE INPUT ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING WHICH IS REQUIRED BY THE INDIANA EDUCATION EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS BOARD. DID I GET THAT RIGHT? AND THEN WE'LL FOLLOW THE PATTERN THROUGH BECAUSE WE DO HAVE TO HAVE A HEARING ON THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT, WE MAY NEED A SPECIAL MEETING BETWEEN THE END OF OCTOBER AND BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER BECAUSE OF OUR TIMING. SO, I DIDN'T WANT DENISE TO TAKE IT DOWN AND HAVE SOMEONE THINK SOMETHING NEFARIOUS WAS GOING ON. I LET ABBY KNOW TONIGHT THAT WAS THE RATIONAL. SO, ESSENTIALLY, BARGAINING IS DELAYED BUT IT'S NOTHING BAD IT'S JUST THE TIMING IS DIFFERENT FOR US THIS YEAR. >> I JUST HAVE A COMMENT, BECAUSE, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING NECESSARILY THAT THE BOARD IS INVOLVED WITH, RIGHT? CAN YOU SHARE, I KNOW THAT WE DID A DIFFERENT FORMAT OR SYSTEM WHEN WE DID COLLECTIVE BARGAINING LAST YEAR. AND WE'RE WORKING ON THAT. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT WE'RE DOING AND HOW IT'S DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST? >> I SURE CAN. THE FIRST THING I'LL TELL YOU IS I'M WORKING ON AN UPDATE FOR DR. KEGLEY ON THE BARGAINING PROCESS. SO HE COULD SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD, UNDERSTANDING FOUR OF YOU HAVEN'T GONE THROUGH THIS BEFORE. WE USE AN INTEREST-BASED PROCESS WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN THE TRADITIONAL. INSTEAD OF HERE'S MY ASK AND MY COUNTER OFFER, SO, WHAT WE FOCUS ON MORE IS THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE'RE AGREEING ARE THE PRIORITIES IN THIS PROCESS, AND ABBY, IF YOU WANT TO ADD TO THIS, PLEASE FEEL FREE. WE AGREE OF THE THINGS WHICH ARE PRIORITIES ON BOTH ENDS AND THERE'S THAT SPECIFIC PROCESS ON WE AGREE ON THAT. WE'RE IN SMALL GROUPS, INSTEAD OF FOCUSSING ON I WANT X, AND I'M NOT WILLING TO GIVE X, WE'RE SAYING OUR PRIORITY IS, YOU KNOW, BEING ABLE TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN HIGHLY QUALIFIED STAFF. OUR PRIORITY SUNSHINE TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM. OUR PRIORITY IS MAXIMIZING INTRODUCTIONAL TIME. THINGS LIKE THAT. THOSE COMMON THINGS WE AGREE TO ARE THEN THE PREMISE FOR EVERYTHING THAT WE NEGOTIATE AS A PROPOSAL. INSTEAD OF THE BACK AND FORTH PROCESS, IT WAS REALLY PAINFUL MY FIRST YEAR, AND SO, THIS WAS I THINK BETTER AND DR. KEGLEY WENT THROUGH IT LAST YEAR AS WELL. MR. LAKE IS ON THAT TEAM, TOO. IT JUST IT'S A LOT BETTER OVERALL ON HOW WE WORK TOGETHER. IT WAS POSITIVE FOR US. >> DO WE START WITH WHAT THE CONTRACT WAS TO BEGIN WITH LAST YEAR, OR DO YOU EVEN LOOK AT THE CONTRACT? >> NO, THE CONTRACT THAT WAS AGREED TO. BECAUSE, EVERYTHING IN THERE HAS TO BE NEGOTIATED. SO, IF WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE THAT, WE HAVE TO NEGOTIATE IT. THAT IS EVERYTHING IN THE CONTRACT, EXTRACURRICULARS, COMPENSATION. >> I HAVE ALREADY SENT OUT A SURVEY TO ALL CERTIFIED STAFF [01:30:05] AND TEACHERS, ASKING THEM LIKE WHAT THEIR PRIORITIES ARE, INSURANCE? EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES? UM, OBVIOUSLY, INCREASE IN PAY? THERE ARE FOUR AREAS. >> I MEAN IT'S ON THERE, THERE ARE DEFINITELY PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING AT OTHER THINGS. SO, WE LOOKED THROUGH THAT AND ALL THE RESULTS, WE'VE LEFT OPEN-ENDED OF THINGS THAT PEOPLE MIGHT SUGGEST WE SURVEY EVERYONE. BECAUSE, EVERYBODY IS A PART OF THE BARGAINING UNIT. ALL TEACHERS, THAT IS. AND THEN WE KIND OF LOOKED THROUGH IT AS A BARGAINING TEAM AND DECIDE OUR PRIORITIES AND THEN SIT DOWN AND START WORKING WITH CENTRAL ADMIN. SO, WE'VE ALREADY STARTED THAT PROCESS. >> DOES ADMIN HAVE, I MEAN, JUST BECAUSE I'M ASKING, DO THEY EVER COME WITH SAYING HERE'S SOMETHING WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT CHANGING ADJUSTING OR DOING? >> COME ON, YOU'VE BEEN AROUND ME TWO YEARS, YOU THINK I GO IN THERE WITHOUT ANYTHING? >> YES. THEY DO TO. >> AND OFTENTIMES, ADMIN WILL REACH OUT TO US, AND I'LL SAY, YOU GOT TO GO THROUGH YOUR ADMIN TEAM. SO, THEY'LL REACH OUT TO US, AND I'LL SAY, A LOT HAPPENS WITH EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. IT COMES THROUGH THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT A LOT THAT WAY. >> SO, FOR EXAMPLE, THE ATHLETIC DIRECTORS JUST SHARED WITH ME COMPARATIVE DATA FOR ALL OF THE OTHER ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS IN HAMILTON COUNTY. BUT, I WAS OUT ON BEREAVEMENT. I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE SCHEDULE WITH MICHELLE BRITTEN WAITS FOR HER HIGH SCHOOL AND JUNIOR HIGH BECAUSE I NEEDED TO BALK ABOUT THE DATA FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS PEOPLE. WE ASK WHAT ECAS YOU'RE USING, WHAT ARE THINGS IN THE PROBLEMATIC IN THE CONTRACT. I'M TALKING ABOUT THE BENEFITS COORDINATOR, HEY, WE'VE ADDED LANGUAGE LAST YEAR, ARE THERE PROBLEMS. IT MAYBE THAT TEACHING AND LEARNING COMES THROUGH WITH, WHICH REALLY NEED TO LOOK AT HOW X IS IN HERE BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO CHANGE OR EXTENDED CONTRACTS IN THE DEPARTMENTS OF EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS. IT'S ABOUT THE INPUT THAT COMES IN. IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WILL BE A HANDBOOK MATTER, DOES IT REQUIRE WHATEVER. WE'RE LIMITED IN THE STATE TO SALARY AND BENEFITS. THAT IS MANDATED. SO, THOSE REALTIME THINGS THAT WE STICK TO. >> AND I KNOW THIS MIGHT BE AN OFF THE WALL QUESTION. BUT, I KNOW WITH THE UNION WE MAY HAVE A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF TEACHERS THAT ARE PART OF THE UNION, BUT, THIS IS NEGOTIATED FOR ALL OF THE TEACHERS OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT BUILD THEY'RE PART MEMBER PAYING UNION OR NOT, CORRECT? >> YES. >> DO THE DUES THAT GET PAID IS THAT ANY PART OF IT OR IS THAT SPLITLY SEPARATE BECAUSE SOME ARE PART OF IT OR SOME AROUND. >> WE DON'T COLLECT DUES. >> THE DISTRICT DOESN'T COLLECT DUES. >> SO, THAT'S JUST DONE WITH THE UNION? >> YES. >> THANK YOU. >> WE'LL BRING IN OUR ISTA DIRECTOR TO HELP US ON OUR END. JUST LIKE YOU BRING IN OUR LAWYER, THAT'S THE EXACT SAME THING. SO, OUR UNION DUES GOES TOWARD THAT, BUT, THE DISTRICT DOESN'T PAY ANYTHING TOWARDS THAT. >> OKAY. THANK YOU. >> YEAH. [7. Board Members] >> PRESIDENT LANG: MOVING TO BOARD REPORTS, 7.01, ANY BOARD MEMBERS HAVE REPORTS, I'LL START TO THE RIGHT, BEN ORR? >> FINANCE AND BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETING TODAY. WE'VE PRETTY MUCH TALKED ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT WE WENT THROUGH IN THERE. WE DID HAVE SOME 50 TO 150,000 ITEMS. EVERYTHING IS POSTED ON BOARD DOCS FOR THE PUBLIC. OVERALL I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD MEETING. LOTS OF GOOD LUCK DISCUSSION. WE ALSO WENT OVER SOME POTENTIAL CONTRACTS THAT DID NOT COME BEFORE US TODAY. IT LOOKS LIKE WE'LL TAKE TIME TO LOOK AT THAT. THOSE ARE POSTED ON BOARD DOCS, I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY PARTICIPATION. >> PRESIDENT LANG: SARAH DONSBACH? >> I WOULD SAY THAT WE'RE WORKING TO RESCHEDULE LAST WEEK'S POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING AND LOOK FOR AN UPDATE ON THAT COMING SOON. >> PRESIDENT LANG: TIFFANY PASCOE? >> WE HAVE A WELLNESS COMMITTEE MEETING COMING UP ON THE 27TH AT 11:00 A.M. AND SUZANNE IS REPLACING MY SEAT ON THE BUDGET FINANCE COMMITTEE. >> PRESIDENT LANG: DR. JUANITA ALBRIGHT? >> SARAH PARKS-REESE? >> ATTACHED ON BOARD DOCS THERE'S NOTES FROM THE AUGUST NOBLESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MEETING. MOSTLY ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE BUILDING OVER ACROSS FROMFROM DEAR CREEK [01:35:07] ELEMENTARY SOME MORE DETAILS RELEASED ABOUT THAT. SO, THAT INFORMATION IS THERE. I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT LET'S SEE, IN AREA A, DELL WEB WILL HAVE 697 SINGLE-FAMILY HOPES FOR PEOPLE AS THEY SAY, AGE 55 OR BETTER. SO, IN THAT AREA, CHILDREN WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RESIDE THERE FOR LONGER THAN SIX WEEKS. SO, ONE OF THE LARGEST PARTS OF THAT DEVELOPMENT IS NOT GOING TO HOUSE CURRENT OR FUTURE HSE STUDENTS. I THINK THERE WAS A LOT OF CONCERN WHEN THAT WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED ABOUT THERE BEING A LOT OF FAMILIES MOVING IN THERE, AND A GOOD PORTION OF IT IS GOING TO BE FOR 55 AND BETTER. AND, THEY WILL STILL PAY INTO THE REFERENDUM, ASSUMING THE REFERENDUM IS PASSED. SO, THAT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE AS WELL. AND, I JUST WANTED TO THROW OUT SPEAKING OF THE REFERENDUM THAT THEY ARE DOING WALK AND TALKS ON SATURDAYS, TUESDAYS, AND THURSDAYS. AND, SHOUT OUT TO OUR INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT DR. KEGLEY AND OUR FCO KATIE DOWELLING WHO WENT OUT SATURDAY. IT'S VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. I'M SIGNED UP TO GO OUT ON THURSDAY AND I WOULD CHALLENGE THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS TO DO THE SAME AS WELL. >> I WILL BE THERE THURSDAY AS WELL. >> PERFECT. >> I THINK I'LL BE THERE THURSDAY AS WELL. IS IT MY TURN? >> PRESIDENT LANG: IF SARAH'S DONE SPEAKING, YES. SUZANNE? >> WELL, I'M PLANNING ON BEING THERE AS WELL FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE WALK AND TALK. GOING TO THE UPDATES QUICKLY, SO, WE SACRIFICED OUR FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE MEETING LAST MONTH SO THEY COULD HAVE THEIR FIRST FINANCE AND BUDGET MEETING. WE DO HAVE OUR FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE MEETING THIS COMING THURSDAY MORNING AT 9:30 AND WE HAVE OUR FOUNDATION MEETING IS AT AGRO PARK THURSDAY AT 7:45 A.M. I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT AND GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOLS FOUNDATION WHO PUT ON A FANTASTIC VIP EVENT AT THE MUD SOCK FUNDRAISING, I'M SURE I'LL GET THE FULL NUMBERS AND REPORT THURSDAY. BUT, THEY DID AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB AND BOTH FOOTBALL TEAMS PLYING IN THE EVENT WAS BY FAR AN EXCITING FOOTBALL TEAM. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ROYALS WHO ARE THE MUD SACK CHAMPIONS THIS YEAR, BUT, ACTUALLY, BOTH TEAMS PLAYED VERY WELL AND IT WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL GAME. THAT'S MY UPDATE. >> DAWN, I MISSED ONE, FISHER'S REDEVELOPMENT. WE DID HAVE A MEETING, IT WAS ONLY ON ONE SUBJECT, THE DISTRICT SOUTH NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR RETAIL AND VARIOUS THINGS THAT WILL BE POPPING UP ACROSS FROM FISHER'S ELEMENTARY. SO, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE CITY, AND THEY'RE WELL AWARE OF OUR PROJECT AT THE SAME TIME ESSENTIALLY. SO, WE'RE GOING TO TRY AND WORK TOGETHER TO BE SURE THAT EVERYTHING GOES SMOOTHLY AND EMPHASIZE SAFETY IN THE STREET THERE. MAKING SURE THAT THE CITY'S AWARE AND WE HAVE CROSS WALKS AND STOP SIGNS FOR THE KIDS. >> PRESIDENT LANG: SO, FOR THE TWO OF YOU WHO SPOKE ADDITIONALLY, BEN AND SUZANNE, MAKE SURE THOSE UPDATES ARE LOADED ONTO BOARD DOCS, THAT'S HELPFUL. I KNOW THAT SARAH PARKS-REESE HAS HER UPDATED WITH THE ECONOMIC DEPARTMENT PIECES ON YOUR'S, TOO, SUZANNE THAT'S HELPFUL >> MADAM PRESIDENT MAY I MAKE A COMMENT? >> PRESIDENT LANG: YES. >> I WANTED TO POINT OUT OUR HSE BOARD POLICY B 04.00 WHEN IT TALKS ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION OF THE SCHOOL BOARD DUTIES AND COMMITTEES, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTY OF THE PRESIDENT TO ASSIGN COMMITTEES AND NOT ANY OTHER BOARD MEMBER. SO, IF ANYONE IS RESIGNING FROM A COMMITTEE, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PRESIDENT TO ASSIGN A REPLACEMENT AND NOT ON TO THE BOARD MEMBER WHO IS RESIGNING. >> PRESIDENT LANG: THAT IS CORRECT. SO, WITH THAT, WITH TIFFANY STEPPING DOWN WITH FINANCE, IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE. I HAVE NOT YET DONE THAT. SUZANNE SAT ON THE COMMITTEE TODAY AS A STAND-IN FOR TIFFANY IN A PAST MEETING WHICH WAS RESCHEDULED. MORE [8. Interim Superintendent's Report] UPDATES ON THAT ARE FORTH COMING. WITH THAT, MOVING TO INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. DR. KEGLEY, 8.01. MATTERS OF CORPORATE INTEREST AND DRAFT AGENDA. >> GREAT, THANK YOU, JUST A FEW ITEMS TO POINT OUT BEFORE WE MOVE TO THE AGENDA, FIRST OF ALL, I APPRECIATE THE BOARD'S SUPPORT DURING THIS TRANSITION IN BRINGING ON STEVE'S GROUP THIS EVENING, THAT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL. JUST A COUPLE OF UPCOMING MEETINGS, KATIE MENTIONED MULTIPLE TIMES, WORK [01:40:03] SESSION ON THE 26TH. THAT'S FROM 6:00 P.M. TO 9:00 P.M. FOR A BUDGET WORK SESSION. SO, THAT WILL BE GOING OVER IN THOROUGH DETAIL. I WOULD REMIND EVERYBODY THAT WE HAVE AN E-LEARNING DAY FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR TEACHERS WHICH IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH. SO, WE'LL BE PUSHING THAT INFORMATION ABOUT THAT BUT, JUST NEEDED TO GET THAT ON EVERYONE'S RADAR. AND, UM, OUR NEXT BOARD MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY, THAT'S OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED TIME AT 7:00 P.M. ON THE 27TH, AND, SOME DRAFT, I WON'T READ THE WHOLE THING BUT JUST SOME THINGS TO POINT OUT, SNAPSHOT OF SUCCESS, WE JUST HAD BECKY SCHRODER AS A TEACHER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. ONE OF OUR ASL TEACHERS RECOGNIZED AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR OUTSTANDING EDUCATORMENT SOME ACTION ITEMS OF IMPORTANCE, GO BOND APPROPRIATION HEARING IS SCHEDULED AS WELL AS RECOMMENDTATION OF AN RFP FOR FALL CREEK INTERMEDIATE RENOVATION. AND THEN, THE LAST THING AS STEVE MENTIONED EARLIER, WE'LL HAVE OUR STUDENT THAT YOU APPROVED THE APPRENTICESHIP FOR TONIGHT HERE TO PROVIDE MORE DETAIL ON THE [9. Board President] ACADEMIC UPDATE. THAT'S ALL I HAVE. >> PRESIDENT LANG: THANK YOU. SO, THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING TONIGHT, I ESPECIALLY WANT TO THANK DR. KEGLEY AND HAD IS LEADERSHIP. HE'S VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. ALSO, KNOW THAT THIS BOARD REMAINS COMMITTED IN IDENTIFYING THE APPROPRIATE NEXT STEPS FOR OUR STAFF AND DISTRICT AS WE LIFT UP OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR LEADERSHIP HERE AS WE MOVE FORWARD IN NOT ONLY HELPING PASS THE REFERENDUM, BUT ALSO IN FINDING AND SECURING OUR LEADERSHIP IN THIS DISTRICT. SO, WITH THAT, THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
