[1. Meeting Opening]
[00:00:12]
>> GOOD EVENING, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE, WE WILL CALL THIS MEETING TO ORDER AT 7:04 P.M., AND WE WILL START WITH THE
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. >> I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
[2. Snapshots of Success]
>> THANK YOU. AND TONIGHT, DOCTOR KELLY WILL BE PRESENTING TONIGHT. FISHER'S HIGH SCHOOL TUTORING CLUB.
>> GOOD EVENING. SO, THE FISHER'S HIGH SCHOOL TUTORING CLUB IS WITH US HERE IN THE FRONT ROW, AND WE ARE GOING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEM IN JUST A SECOND, BUT THIS STARTED IN OCTOBER 2021 WITH THE MISSION TO PREPARE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL BY HELPING THEM WITH SCHOOLWORK AND OFFERING EXTRA ACADEMIC SUPPORT. UM, AND THAT'S BEEN ESPECIALLY BENEFICIAL COMING OFF THE PANDEMIC, SO WE ARE GOING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEM IN THE STUDIO.
>> TO MAKE THIS POSITIVE, LET'S SAY YOU TURNED INTO THIS,
RIGHT? >> WHAT OUR GROUP DOES IS SPEAK OR AROUND THE JUNIOR HIGHS AND WE JUST TUTOR. WE STARTED IT LAST YEAR AND MY SISTERS MY VICE PRESIDENT PENCE.
>> I WOULD DROP ANYTHING TO BE TUTORING.
>> TWO IS EQUAL TO TWO OVER ONE.
>> ALL THE TUTORS HAVE DIFFERENT SKILL SETS. THEY SIT DOWN WITH ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL TUTORS AND THEY WERE IN THEIR POSITION RECENTLY, SO AN EASIER CONNECTION, IF YOU WILL.
>> YOU KNOW HOW I GOT TO THE EIGHT, THOUGH?
>> I FEEL LIKE WE MAKE REALLY GOOD CONNECTIONS. AT FISHER'S JUNIOR HIGH, THERE IS A STUDENT WHO EVERY TIME SHE IS THERE.
>> 7TH TO 8TH GRADE, THEY CAN HAVE A BETTER FOUNDATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL. I JUST WANTED TO DO IT, I DIDN'T DO IT FOR ANY OTHER REASON THAN I JUST WANTED TO.
>> YOU JUST FEEL SO HELPFUL AND IT'S A GREAT WAY TO GIVE BACK
TO THE COMMUNITY. >> SO, [APPLAUSE]
>> SO, I WILL INVITE THE CLUB TO COME UP BECAUSE I KNOW THE BOARD IS LIKELY TO HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU, COME ON UP.
AND WHILE THEY DO, I WILL LET YOU ALSO KNOW THAT, UM, THE CLUB WAS AWARDED A PROJECT AWARE STUDENT GRANT IN MARCH 2022 TO ASSIST THEM IN THEIR WORK IN THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL,
SO, HERE YOU GO. >> WELCOME. THANK YOU FOR, YEAH, HI, CAN YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?
>> I'M THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE CLUB.
>> I'M BEN CONNOLLY, ONE OF THE SENIOR CLUB OFFICERS.
>> ON ONE OF THE SOPHOMORE CLUB OFFICERS.
>> I'M THE CLUB SECRETARY. >> WELL, WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING IN OUR SCHOOL BUILDINGS. UM, I JUST LOVE THAT YOU HAVE THIS AND YOU'VE GROWN SO MUCH. UM, HOW DID IT GROW AND WHAT'S HAPPENING NEXT FOR THE CLUB?
>> SO, IT GREW BECAUSE MOSTLY, SO WE STARTED OFF PRETTY LATE INTO THE SEMESTER LAST YEAR, SO THIS YEAR WE HAD THE CLUB FAIR, WE HAD A LOT MORE TIME FOR ADVERTISING. I WAS ALREADY PLANNING TO GO TO MULTIPLE SCHOOLS BEFORE I GRADUATED, SO WE WENT TO THREE SCHOOLS, I AM HOPING TO GO TO A FOURTH IF THIS ONE WORKS. BUT AFTER ME GRADUATING, MY SISTER.
>> PASSING THE TORCH? >> SHE IS GOING TO SET UP EVERYTHING. I ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING SET UP FOR HER, BUT
SHE WILL JUST CONTINUE. >>.[LAUGHING] SHE IS BACK THERE
LIKE, WHAT? [LAUGHING] >> I CALL IT A FAMILY RUN BUSINESS WHENEVER SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT IT, IT'S ACTUALLY
FAMILY-RUN. >>.[LAUGHING] BUT, WELL, THE REWARDS. SO, TYPICALLY WITH STUDENT CLUBS, A STUDENT COMES UP WITH THE IDEA AND THEY HAVE TO FIND A SPONSOR, WHO IS YOUR SPONSOR AND WAS IT HARD TO GET ONE?
>> SO, OUR SPONSOR IS OUR FAVORITE PERSON EVER, MISS RENC)E, SO SHE IS ACTUALLY THE ONE WHO FOUND THE SPONSOR, SO I CAN'T REALLY ANSWER THAT REALLY WELL.
>> SHE WAS MY ENGLISH TEACHER LAST YEAR FOR AN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE AS A JUNIOR, SO STARTING OUT, SHE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER, I REALLY LIKED HER LESSONS, SO, I REALLY DIDN'T WANT ANYONE ELSE THERE AT THE TIME, BUT I KNEW SHE WAS PROBABLY A GREAT FIT. I ASKED HER, SHE WAS LIKE, OKAY.
>> HOW DO YOU, HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR TWO DEGREES?
[00:05:05]
>> I THINK A LARGE PART OF IT IS LIKE TELLING THE JUNIOR HIGH TEACHERS LIKE IF THEY HAVE A KID IN CLASS THAT THEY FEEL LIKE IS STRUGGLING, THEY CAN JUST SIGN THEM UP TO LIKE GO TO TUTORING. SO THEY ARE GOING TO SHOW UP AND THERE'S SOME LIKE PAPERS POSTED ACROSS THE SCHOOL AS WELL. EXTRA HELP. TO WORK ON IT. THEY CAN JUST SIGN UP THAT WAY.
>> DO YOU, UM, DO ALL SUBJECTS LIKE GOVERNMENT AND MATH OR JUST THE LIGHT SUBJECTS? SO, WE OFFER ALL SUBJECTS THAT THE STUDENTS NEED. CURRENTLY, OUR MOST POPULAR ONES ARE STIMULATED LIKE MATH AND SCIENCE, BUT WE ALSO HAVE ENGLISH, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND SOME LANGUAGE SUBJECTS AS WELL.
>> ARE YOU TUTORING JUST WITHIN THE HIGH SCHOOL RIGHT NOW OR DO
YOU GO OUT TO THE JUNIOR HIGH? >> SO, WE GO TO THE SPECIFIC JUNIOR HIGHS AND BE TUTOR INSIDE THEIR LIBRARIES, BUT WE HAVE BEEN DEVELOPING A PROGRAM TO TUTOR FISHER'S HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT NEED HELP THAT ARE IN THE SAME GRADE AS US, IN ORDER TO HELP MORE THAN JUST JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS, BUT FOR THE JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS, WE SPECIFICALLY GO TO THEIR SCHOOLS AND TUTOR INSIDE THEIR LIBRARIES.
>> WHAT WOULD YOU SAY, IF I COULD ASK EACH OF YOU, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO TUTOR OR SUBJECT, I SHOULD SAY, TO
TUTOR? >> I WILL GO FIRST, MATH IS
ALWAYS MY FAVORITE SUBJECT. >> ALL DIFFERENT MATH?
>> ALL MATH. I REALLY HATE ENGLISH, EVEN THOUGH MY SPONSOR IS AN ENGLISH TEACHER. [LAUGHING] BUT YEAH, I LOVE
MATH. X VERY GOOD. >> SO, MY FAVORITE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SCIENCE, I THINK WHERE IT COMES IS THE FIRST STUDENT THAT I HELPED WAS SOMEONE WHO NEEDED HELP WITH SCIENCE, SO GETTING TO SEE THEIR FACE WHEN I GOT LIKE THE ANSWER THAT THEY REALLY WERE LIKE LOOKING FOR THIS NATIVE MY FAVORITE TO
>> SAYING, I AM A MATH GUY THROUGH AND THROUGH, SO AM ALWAYS GOING TO WANT TO TUTOR MATH OVER EVERYTHING ELSE, BUT
I'M HAPPY TO DO ANYTHING. >> GOOD.
>> SAME AS THE OTHER TWO, I AM ALSO MATH. IT'S JUST LIKE MY COMFORTABLE SUBJECTS AND I THINK IT'S ALSO WHENEVER I SEE SOMEONE IMPROVE IN THAT SUBJECT AS WELL.
>> GREAT. >> SO, MY FAVORITE SUBJECTS ARE MATH AND HISTORY, BUT I'VE NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TUTOR HISTORY, BECAUSE STUDENTS NEVER NEED HELP WITH IT, BUT I LOVE TUTORING MATH AND I WILL TUTOR ANY SUBJECT, BASICALLY
ANY SUBJECT. >> SO, IF I'M LOOKING CORRECTLY, I HAVE FIVE FUTURE MATH TEACHERS.
>> THAT WAS MY QUESTION. ARE ANY INTERESTED. [LAUGHING] OKAY. I JUST LOVE THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS AND THAT YOU TOOK THE INITIATIVE, AND I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THE STUDENTS ARE PROBABLY ALSO GETTING, NOT JUST THE KNOWLEDGE OF MATH AND SCIENCE, IS JUST THAT INTERACTION WITH SOME OLDER STUDENTS. I KNOW MY KIDS IN ELEMENTARY GOT THAT KIND OF BUDDY SYSTEM FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND HEARING HOW EXCITED THEY WERE TO KIND OF SPEND SOME TIME WITH SOME OLDER STUDENTS, AND I'M SURE THE JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXPERIENCE, SO I THINK THAT'S ALSO JUST AN INCREDIBLE PART OF
IT, SO, >> AND ARTHUR JUST THE FIVE OF YOU OR ARE THERE MORE WHO COULDN'T MAKE IT TONIGHT?
>> SIX ALTOGETHER. >> SO, WE HAVE A LOT MORE OFFICERS. THESE ARE JUST THE ONES WHO COULD SHOW UP TODAY.
WE HAVE THREE SENIOR CLUB OFFICERS. ONE OF THEM IS BEN, THE OTHER TWO ARE HOPE AND SUMMER. WE HAVE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT POSITIONS, WHICH ARE JUST LIKE, THOSE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN IN THE CLUB ALREADY, THEY'VE BEEN HERE FOR A WHILE.
WE HAVE CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND STUFF LIKE THAT. THESE ARE JUST THE ONES WHO COULD BE HERE TODAY.
>> OFFICERS, LIKE THE LEADERS OF THE CLUB.
>> AND IF ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL IN OUR DISTRICT WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS CLUB, WHICH WOULD BE AMAZING, I THINK, WOULD YOU BE
WILLING TO HELP THEM FORM IT? >> OF COURSE.
>> AND THEN LAST QUESTION, IF ANY PARENT OR STUDENT IS LISTENING HERE TONIGHT WHO ATTENDS RIVERSIDE, FALL CREEK, OR FISHER'S JUNIOR HIGH, UM, HOW CAN THEY, IF THEIR CHILD HAS NOT TOLD THEM ABOUT THIS, HOW CAN THEY LEARN MORE ABOUT IT AND WHEN HE WILL BE AVAILABLE?
>> THE BEST WAY IS TO ASK THE SCHOOL SPONSORS. AT RIVERSIDE, WE HAVE KYLE SCHULTZ. YOU CAN ALSO ASK THE PRINCIPAL, HE WILL DIRECT YOU TO MR. SCHULTZ. AT FALL CREEK, IT'S MRS. O'NEILL, SHE'S THE COUNSELOR THERE. OH, MY BAD. IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY.
SO, SORRY, FALL CREEK IS MR. SWANBERG. AND AGAIN, YOU CAN TALK TO THE PRINCIPAL. IT'S BASICALLY JUST ASKING THE PRINCIPAL, ONE OF THE TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL, AND THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW. X AWESOME, THANK YOU SO MUCH, AND I LIKE TO ECHO THAT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF SOME OF YOU WENT INTO EDUCATION.
ANYBODY THINKING OF THAT? >> I AM THINKING OF HOPEFULLY MAYBE TEACHING AS A PROFESSOR AT A COLLEGE FOR EITHER MATHEMATICS OR HISTORY. AND, UM, I LOVE TEACHING AND THAT'S
WHAT I WANT TO DO. >> I THINK YOU NEED TO GET SOME EXPENSE AT THE K-12 LEVEL BEFORE YOU GO TO COLLEGE.
RIGHT BACK AT FISHER'S HIGH SCHOOL, RIGHT?
[00:10:02]
>> I WILL SAY, I LOVE THAT THERE'S ANOTHER HISTORY PERSON.
>> WELL, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT OF GROWING THE CLUB AND JUST STARTING IT AND ALL THE GREAT WORK YOU'RE DOING, WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. [APPLAUSE]
>> CAN WE TAKE A PICTURE? >> YES, OF COURSE.
[4. Consent Agenda]
>> OKAY, MOVING ON, WE'VE GOT PUBLIC COMMENT, BUT NOBODY SIGNED UP, SO WE WILL SKIP THAT AND GO RIGHT ONTO THE CONSENT AGENDA FOR THE COMMUNITY TO UNDERSTAND THESE ARE TYPICALLY PRETTY MUNDANE ITEMS. PAYROLL THE BOARD IS REQUIRED TO APPROVE BEFORE IT CAN BE SIGNED OFF ON. I DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY REQUESTS TO SEPARATE THEM, SO I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
>> I HAVE THE FIRST AND SECOND, ANY QUESTION OR COMMENT? I WOULD ASK JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE.
>> BRAD BOYER? MICHELLE? JULIE CHAMBERS? SARAH? SARAH?
[5. Information Items]
>> I AM JANET AND I AM A YES, THE MOTION PASSES 7:0.
>> THANK YOU. MOVING ON TO INFORMATION ITEMS, I BELIEVE WE HAVE MISSED LIBBY FOR POLICY FIRST READ.
>> GOOD EVENING, DOCTOR STOKES AND BOARD. TONIGHT, I PRESENT TO YOU FOR FIRST READ THIS NEXT ROUND OF POLICIES. I DO WANT TO POINT OUT, THE FIRST COUPLE OF POLICIES, THERE ARE NO CHANGES THAT ARE INYOUR POCKET, J0 , HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME SUGGESTED REVISIONS TO K07 POINTS 00 AND ALSO, A NEWLY PROPOSED POLICY, K07.01. AND THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL POLICIES TO BE RESCINDED, AND AGAIN, I JUST PRESENT THESE TO YOU AS A
FIRST READ. >> I DO HAVE A COMMENT ON K07 POINTS 01, MAYBE YOU GUYS HAVE ALREADY CAUGHT IT, BUT THERE IS A SPELLING ON THE VERY TOP, IT HAS GOT THE END IN ATTENDANCE
AT SCHOOL EVENTS. >> PERFECT, THANK YOU.
>> AND THEN, ON THE THIRD LINE IN THAT FIRST PARAGRAPH, IT SAYS THE BOARD HOLDS THE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO BAR THE ATTENDANC , EXCUSE ME, ATTENDANCE OF OR REMOVE YADA YADA YADA. I WAS WANTING TO PUT OUT THERE TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE THINK, INSTEAD OF THE WORD BAR, WE USE MAYBE RESTRICT OR LIMIT OR SUSPEND OR THREE OTHER WORDS THAT I THOUGHT MIGHT SOUND BETTER THAN
BORING SOMEONE. >> I THINK WE USE THE WORD BAR BECAUSE THOSE THINGS OF LIMIT, SUSPEND, RESTRICT, WOULD BE DONE BY THE COACH OR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR BUILDING LEADERSHIP BEFORE IT WOULD, IF IT WOULD COME TO US, AS IF SOMEONE WAS ASKED TO LEAVE OR RESTRICTED FROM COMING, AND THEN THEY CONTINUED TO SHOW UP, THEN WE AS A FINAL AUTHORITY WOULD HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO BAR THEM FROM ATTENDING.
>> SO, MAYBE, UM, IF WE ADD THE WORD FINAL AUTHORITY, LIKE THE BOARD HOLDS THE LEGAL FINAL AUTHORITY TO BAR THEM, SO WE KNOW IT IS A LAST RESORT, IF YOU WILL. WOULD ANYBODY HAVE
OBJECTIONS TO ADDING THAT? >> YEAH, IT'S FRUSTRATING. WE CAN TAKE THAT BACK AND TALK ABOUT IT, FOR SURE.
>> OKAY, AND THEN, UM, THE SECOND PARAGRAPH, THE LAST WORD SAYS SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE, AND MY QUESTION IN THAT PARAGRAPH ALTOGETHER, IS WITH THIS ONE, I KNOW PERSONALLY, FOR THE ROYALS FOOTBALL TEAM, FOR EXAMPLE, MAYBE I'M JUST READING IT WRONG, BUT WE HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE OUT ON THAT FIELD THAT ARE TAKING PICTURES, VIDEOS,
[00:15:07]
THAT KIND OF THING, SO ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THAT DESIGNEE TO BE THE COACH, SUPERVISOR, ACTIVITY DIRECTOR, ETC.?>> CORRECT, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, THE COACH, THE PERSON WHO IS FACILITATING THAT ACTIVITY ON THE FIELD, YES, SO,
>> I JUST THINK MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE CLARITY THERE SOMEHOW, TO SAY SOMETHING THAT, BECAUSE IT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE,
>> SO TYPICALLY, AND ALL POLICIES, DESIGNEES CAN BE ANYONE WHOSE POSITION OF TITLE, BE IT A COACH OR A PRINCIPAL, IS OVER AUTHORITY FOR THAT PARTICULAR GROUP OF STAFF MEMBERS. > SO, THIS IS NOT RESTRICTING THE TEAM TO HAVE LIKE THE TOUCHDOWN CLUB OR THE GRIDIRON CLUB, THOSE DIFFERENT CLUBS, HAVING THEIR PHOTOGRAPHERS COME OUT AND FILM
THOSE KIDS? >> NO, IT'S JUST CONSISTENT LANGUAGE WE USE THROUGHOUT ALL POLICIES, WERE OBVIOUSLY THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY LIES WITH HER SUPERINTENDENT, SO WE USE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE CONSISTENTLY FOR ALL OF OUR POLICIES, TO ALLOW, AND SO WE DON'T HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC, SO IF SOMETHING CHANGES AND FOR SOME REASON, THEN WE HAVE, WE DON'T CALL THEM ASSISTANT COACHES ANYMORE, WE SAW THEM ASSOCIATE COACHES, WE DON'T HAVE TO GO BACK AND CHANGE
ANYTHING. >> AND THAT IS ANSWERED AND UNDERSTOOD, I GUESS I MEANT THE WHOLE PARAGRAPH, SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THAT, I JUST WANTED TO UNDERSTAND THE CLARITY THAT IT SAYS THE BOARD IS ALSO AWARE OF THE INCREASING DESIRE OF MEDIA PERSONNEL AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO MAKE AUDIO AND VIDEO RECORDINGS OF SCHOOL STUDENTS, OR EXCUSE ME, SCHOOL EVENTS. NONSCHOOL PERSONNEL SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED ACCESS TO ATHLETIC FIELDS AND/OR COMPETITION AREAS DURING COMPETITIONS WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT OR DESIGNEE. SO, I GUESS WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY OR I KNOW FOR SURE, IS I CAN ONLY USE WHAT SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES I'M FAMILIAR WITH, AND I KNOW OFTEN, WE HAVE BLOGGED KIDS AND STUDENT THINGS ARE OUT THERE, AND I DON'T KNOW IF THEY CALLED EVERY SINGLE TIME TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT, SO I DIDN'T KNOW HOW THAT WORKED.
>> NONSCHOOL PERSONNEL, THEY ARE STUDENTS, SO THIS WOULD BE PRIVATE MEDIA, THIS WOULD BE PRIVATE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT STUDENTS HERE OR EMPLOYED BY THE SCHOOL.
>> LIKE IF IT'S FROM AN EVENT AND THE FOOTBALL COACH SAYS, HEY, CAN YOU TAKE VIDEO, THAT'S OKAY?
>> YES. >> THAT'S ALL I WANTED TO
>> OKAY. I JUST WANTED TO CLARIFY THAT BECAUSE WE'VE GOT LOTS OF GREAT VIDEOS AT BOTH SCHOOLS AND I JUST WANTED TO CONFIRM THAT THAT CAN CONTINUE ON.
>> YES, 100 PERCENT, IT'S MORE FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR COACHES AND OUR STUDENTS, AND FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE COMING FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY, THAT WE KNOW THEY ARE ON THE FIELD, WE KNOW WHY THERE ON THE FIELD, THEY HAVE OUR PERMISSION TO BE ON THE FIELD FOR THE PROTECTION OF ALL THE ATHLETES AND SPECTATORS AND COACHES THAT ARE DOWN THERE. AND FOR THAT PERSON THEMSELVES. RIGHT? I MEAN, FOR FOOTBALL GAMES, ANYONE SITTING OUT THERE, IF THEY ARE ON THE SIDELINES AND THE PLAY GOES ALL RIGHT OUT OF THE SIDELINES, YOU ARE PUTTING YOURSELF IN THE WAY OF THE TACKLE.
>> YEAH, I JUST WANTED TO CONFIRM, BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, I'VE SEEN SOME PHENOMENAL VIDEOS AND CLIPS AND EXCITING THINGS THAT THESE STUDENTS AND EVEN PARENTS WHO AREN'T, YOU KNOW, THAT ART, BUT HAVE BEEN ASKED TO MAKE THESE VIDEOS OR MAKE THESE EXCITING, YOU KNOW, COLLAGES, I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT'S STILL OKAY, SO YOU GUYS CLARIFYING THAT FOR ME, THAT'S PERFECT. I READ IT THE FIRST TIME AND WENT, OH NO. X AND TO BE CLEAR, THIS DOES NOT PERMIT ANY PARENT OR PERSON FROM TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS OR VIDEO AS AN ATTENDEE. IN THE BLEACHERS, IF THEY HAVE IS IN LENS THAT THEY WANT TO TAKE PHOTOS, THIS DOES NOT PROHIBIT THEM, THIS IS REALLY TALKING ABOUT ACCESS TO
THE FIELD. >> PERFECT, THANK YOU FOR THE CLARITY. AND THEN ON THE, WE HAVE FIRST READS FOR, I PUT NOTES ON HERE , ON THE ONE THAT IS J07 POINTS 03. I WILL GO IN ORDER. DID I PULL OVER AT 608? I DO NOT CALL 608, WE WILL MOVE OUT ONTO THE SIDE. BUT THE ONE, J07.03 SAYS, I PUT J.
>> YEAH. >> THAT MUST BE ON THE BOTTOM, LET ME FIND THAT ONE. OKAY, SO ALL OF THESE THAT HAVE BEEN RESCINDED, ASIDE FROM MAKING A LESS AMOUNT OF POLICIES THAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH, HAVE THE LANGUAGE OR PARAGRAPHS BEEN ADDED TO OTHER PARTS, SO THERE'S STILL COVERED IN THAT AREA? THIS SAYS STUDENT ACCIDENTS. J07.03. I GUESS ACCOUNTABILITY AND RECORD OF CARE WAS TWO THINGS I PULLED
[00:20:02]
OUT ON THERE, SO WHY ARE WE REMOVING THAT WHOLE POLICY WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT STUDENT ACCIDENTS?>> SO, EVERYONE, ANYTHING THAT'S BEEN RESCINDED, UM, IS AT THE RECOMMENDATION OF OUR ATTORNEYS, BECAUSE IT'S EITHER COVERED OR ITS STATE LAW, SO IT'S ALWAYS, THERE'S NOTHING THAT WE WILL REMOVE THAT ISN'T COVERED SOMEWHERE ELSE. UM, SO IF YOU NOTICE, A LOT OF THESE ARE JUST VERY SIMPLE, AND THAT'S, MIGHT HAVE BEEN 1999, THEY THOUGHT THEY NEEDED THIS,
SO, THAT'S 2006, I THINK. >> RIGHT, WE ALSO MOVED PORTIONS OF IT LAST, OUR LAST MEETING. WENT INTO IT EASIER
TO POINT OUT TO ACCIDENT. >> THAT WAS THAT ONE, THE ONE THAT IS 502 IS OVERSIGHT. A COMMENT I WAS THINKING THAT WE HAVE, LET ME FIND WHERE IT IS. TRYING TO GO IN ORDER. I WROTE DOWN J05.02, STUDENT GOVERNMENT, I GUESS, TRYING TO FIND IT. THAT'S THE NEW ONE. OKAY. SO, THAT ONE IS RESCINDED. SO, I GUESS JUST OVERSIGHT. IF WE ARE PULLING THESE OUT, JANET, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COMMENT, HOW DO WE KNOW WHERE THEY ARE? ARE WE STATING WHERE THEY ARE IN A
DIFFERENT AREA? >> THIS ONE SPECIFICALLY IS NOT SOMEWHERE ELSE, BUT IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE.
>> STUDENT GOVERNMENT DOESN'T NEED TO BE THERE? > THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE BUILDINGS, NOT SOMETHING THE BOARD HAS TO SET POLICY FOR.
>> SO, STUDENT GOVERNMENT, IT SAYS THE PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNEE WILL ESTABLISH GUIDELINES FOR THE OPERATION OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING BOTH LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND A FORMAL MEANS FOR STUDENTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH ADMINISTRATION ABOUT MATTERS OF STUDENT INTERESTS OR CONCERN, SO, I UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE SAYING THAT WE DON'T NEED A POLICY, BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE, IF IT'S GOING TO BE IN OUR PROCEDURES, DO WE HAVE A PROCEDURE THAT, THAT MATCHES THAT INSTEAD?
>> I DON'T KNOW THAT WE NECESSARILY NEED A PROCEDURE, BUT LIKE JANET SAID, WITHIN THE BUILDING, STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED THAT VEHICLE TO, UM, PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES.
>> WELL, IT ALSO MAKES IT SEEM LIKE IT IS A STUDENT VOICE, LIKE STUDENTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE ADMINISTRATION ABOUT MATTERS OF STUDENT INTEREST OR CONCERN, SO I'M GLAD THAT WE HAVE THAT. I GUESS I AM TRYING TO MAKE A LITTLE BIT MORE CLARITY AND UNDERSTAND, IS IT IN OUR STUDENT HANDBOOKS THAT THEY HAVE A PROCESS THAT THEY KNOW HOW TO GO AHEAD AND DO THAT? OR IS THAT A PROCEDURE SOMEWHERE THAT THEY KNOW TO DO THAT? ARE THEY JUST HAVE A DIRECT LINE, GO SEE YOUR
PRINCIPAL AND TALK ABOUT IT? >> ALL OF THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES, IF THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOKS, STUDENTS AGAIN HAVE THE VEHICLE THROUGH ALL THE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE OFFERED THROUGH THEIR, YOU KNOW, INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS, THAT ABSOLUTELY INCLUDE THE STUDENT VOICE. STUDENTS ARE ALSO GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE THEIR
OWN CLUBS. >> AND SO, IT WAS JUST UNDER ADVISEMENT TO US, IT WAS JUST A POLICY THAT'S NOT NEEDED BECAUSE WE DO ALREADY, UM, ALLOW OUR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT.
>> DOES ANYBODY ELSE ON THE BOARD OF A COMMENT WITH THAT?
>> NO, I MEAN, IT SEEMS VERY, I MEAN, IT'S JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT THE BOARD DOESN'T NEED TO SET A POLICY FOR OUR ADMINISTRATORS TO HELP OUR STUDENTS HAVE STUDENT GOVERNMENT CLUBS. I JUST, I SEE THIS IS GETTING IN THE WEEDS. MICROMANAGING WHAT OUR PRINCIPLES ARE DOING.
>> JUST BRINGING UP, MAKING SURE. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY SOMEBODY THOUGHT ABOUT IT IN 1999, IT'S BEEN THERE FOR 20 SOME YEARS, SO I'M JUST SAYING, I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT WASN'T SOMETHING THERE THAT GIVES THAT OVERSIGHT FOR THEM.
SO, OKAY. >> IN RESPECT FOR ALL OF THESE POLICIES THAT DATE BACK TO THE LATE 90S, THERE ARE A LOT OF THE ONES WE ARE RESCINDING, HAVING LOTS AND LOTS OF THINGS WRITTEN DOWN IN A MANUAL THAT IS REDUNDANT IN LAW AND REDUNDANT IN PRACTICE. BUT WAS KIND OF THE IN THING TO DO AT THAT TIME, WHERE NOW, IT JUST MUDDIES THE WATERSAND WE DON'T , WE HAVE SO MANY ROBUST PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOLS FOR CLUBS AND STUDENT ACTIVITIES THAT HAVING THIS YEAR IS REALLY JUST, I MEAN, IF I AM BEING HONEST, TAKING UP SPACE. AND
[00:25:09]
NOT NECESSARY. >> BUT AS LONG AS IT'S ALREADY COVERED FOR OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE THAT, THAT'S FINE. SAME WITH SOME OF THE OTHER ONES THAT WE HAVE ON HERE. I AM NOT SAYING I DON'T AGREE WITH THEM, I AM JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE, UM, OVERSIGHT FOR THOSE THINGS THAT WE ARE JUST PULLING OUT AND SAYING WE DON'T NEED THEM ANYMORE. THAT'S ALL.
>> RIGHT, THIS POLICY GAVE THE BOARD NO OVERSIGHT OVER THIS
>> SO, WE ARE NOT REMOVING ANY OVERSIGHT FROM US, NOR IS THE PRINCIPAL LOSING OVERSIGHT FOR CLUBS IN OUR OWN SCHOOLS.
>> OKAY. AND IF WE WENT TO, UM, THE OTHER ONES THAT WERE ON THERE, SIX-POINT 03, SIX-POINT 05, SO BASICALLY JUST ASKING THE SAME QUESTIONS, WE ARE PULLING THEM ALL,AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY STILL , YOU'RE SAYING INNER POLICIES ALREADY, SOMEWHERE ELSE, PEOPLE WILL FIND THAT IN THERE?
>> IT MAY NOT BE IN OUR POLICIES, BUT IT MAY NOT BE SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE IN OUR POLICIES. I THINK THE PURPOSE OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS TO STREAMLINE OUR POLICIES, SO OUR POLICIES ONLY LIST THE THINGS THE BOARD NEEDS TO SPECIFICALLY ADDRESS. SOME OF THESE THINGS ARE JUST THINGS THAT ALREADY HAPPEN IN OUR BUILDINGS OR OUR ADMINISTRATORS DO THEM EVERY DAY, THEY ALREADY HAVE PROCEDURES IN THEIR BUILDINGS SPECIFIC TO THAT BUILDING. AND THEY'RE JUST COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY IN THIS, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF WHAT THIS POLICY COMMITTEE IS DOING.
>> LIKE THIS ONE, UM, IT BASICALLY IS SAYING THAT WE, YOU KNOW, WE ADHERE TO THE EYE AT AS AAA RULES.
>> THAT IS IN OUR HANDBOOKS FOR THEM, SO WE ALREADY HAVE THAT.
I THAT I DIDN'T ASK ABOUT. >> THE FOOD SERVICES MANAGEMEN
ONE IS ALREADY IN 5.01 . >> RIGHT, I UNDERSTAND.
>> SPORTS, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MUD SOCK. SO, WE AS A BOARD HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO RULE OVER MUD SOCK OR THOSE KIND OF
SPORTS. >> BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR INTRAMURAL SPORTS AT HER OWN SCHOOL THAT WERE JUST RUN THROUGH THE ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT IN THEIR OWN SCHOOLS, CORRECT? AND IT'S ALSO IN OUR STUDENT HANDBOOK.
YES, THAT WOULD ALSO BE THROUGH OUR STUDENT HANDBOOK? >
CORRECT. >> ALL RIGHT, JUST WANTING THE CLARITY AS WE ARE SITTING HERE GOING THROUGH FOR A FIRST READ, I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE REALIZED THAT
POINT. >> WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO MAYBE CONSIDER IN THE FUTURE, JUST TO PUT ONE QUICK WORD, RESEND NOT NEEDED? RESCIND STATE LAW? JUST SO,
>> THAT WOULD HELP, THANK YOU. >> AVOID THIS POINT.
>> FOR SURE. AVOID WHAT? HAVING A CONVERSATION?
>> NO, HAVING TO EXPLAIN WHY WE ARE RESCINDING. IT'S ON THERE, SO WE CAN STREAMLINE OUR MEETING AS WELL.
>> YEAH, BUT AGAIN, I NEED TO POINT OUT, IF WE ARE HAVING THE MEETING AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE SITUATION, WHEN IT SAYS ON HERE WE ARE RESCINDING SOMETHING, THAT'S IMPORTANT, BUT JUST TO SAY WE ARE DOING IT, AGAIN, I LIKED YOUR ADVICE, SAYING WE ARE GOING TO RESEND, AND THENSAY WHY , THAT WILL HELP, BUT JUST TO SAY WE ARE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT, I
DON'T THINK IS NECESSARY. >> I DON'T THINK I MEANT THAT WE WERE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT. I WOULD JUST ALSO REMIND BOARD MEMBERS THAT IF YOU ARE REVIEWING THESE AHEAD OF TIME AND YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY THEY ARE BEING RESCINDED OR WHAT'S BEING CHANGED, WE ASK THAT THOSE QUESTIONS BE SUBMITTED BY NOON ON THE MONDAY BEFORE THE MEETING, SO WE CAN HAVE THOSE ANSWERS AND THEY CAN POTENTIALLY PROVIDE THEM AHEAD OF TIME AS WELL. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THE FIRST READ? OKAY, SO WE WILL MOVE ON. TO J05.02.
EMPLOYMENT SUPPORTS UPDATE, I APOLOGIZE.
>> I'M GOING TO STAY UP HERE AND TALK ABOUT, UM, THE BOARD REQUESTED INFORMATION REGARDING SUBS, SO, HAPPY TO PRESENT TO YOU SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OURSELVES, AND I WANT TO GIVE KUDOS TO ABBY BROWN, OUR DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, WHO HELPED PUT THE GRAPHICS TOGETHER AND DID AN AMAZING JOB, SO KUDOS TO HER. ALSO WITH US TONIGHT, YOU WILL SEE ON THE SLIDE, DIANE HOWELL IS OURS SUBSTITUTE COORDINATOR, SO SHE IS HERE, I WILL HAVE HER COME UP, YOU MIGHT AS WELL MAKE YOUR WAY UP, BECAUSE HE WILL BE JOINING ME HERE PRETTY SOON.
UM, I'M JUST REALLY THRILLED FOR YOU TO MEET DIANE AND TO HEAR FROM HER, SHE IS A PROFESSIONAL, SHE IS TENACIOUS, SHE IS DRIVEN, AND WHEN I JUST SEE HER COMING DOWN THE HALLWAY, I JUST SAY, YES. I JUST NEED TO JUST SAY YES TO HER, AND YOU WILL SEE WHY HERE IN JUST A MOMENT, SO, IF WE CAN
[00:30:02]
GO ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO, HERE'S A SNAPSHOT OF WHERE WE ARE NOW, SO YOU CAN SEE OUR TOTAL NUMBER OF GENERAL SUBS, WE ARE AT 438, AND AGAIN, I THINK WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IN THE PAST, UM, YOU'RE CONSTANTLY RECRUITING GENERAL SUBS, SO THESE OURSELVES THAT MAY WORK FOR US, BUT THEY ALSO WORK FOR OTHER DISTRICTS. UM, WE COULD HAVE 600 SUBS, AND SO AGAIN, NEED PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO WORK AND TAKE ON THOSE JOBS.SO, RIGHT NOW, OUR NUMBER OF INACTIVE SUBS, AS YOU CAN SEE, IS 193, BUT I'M TOLD ACTIVE SELVES ARE AT 135. AND THOSE ACTIVE SUBS HAVE SUBBED FOR US AT LEAST FIVE TIMES IN THE PAST 60 DAYS. SO, THAT'S ABOUT 31, ABOUT 31 PERCENT. AND THEN WE'VE GOT SUBS WHO WORK IN MULTIPLE DISTRICTS, SO OUT OF OUR ACTIVE SUBS, 46 ARE ALSO WORKING IN OTHER DISTRICTS.
AND OUR TOTAL PERMANENT SUB NUMBER AS OF AUGUST 1 WAS 19.
AS OF AUGUST 10, DUE TO DIANE'S CONTINUED RECRUITMENT, WE ARE UP TO 26. BUT YOU CAN KIND OF SEE HOW IT EBBS AND FLOWS.
RIGHT? WHERE WE FIRED 11 BUT WE MIGHT LOSE FOUR. SO RIGHT NOW, THIS IS WHERE WE STAND. UM, SO, WE HAVE A VISION OF WHERE WE WOULD LIKE TO BE WITH OUR PERMANENT SUBS, SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THAT GOAL. SO, WE CAN GO ON TO THE NEXT.
>> WHAT IS THE OTHER DESIGNATIONS IF YOU HAVE INACTIVE AND ACTIVE, WHAT IS THE THIRD DESIGNATION THAT
WOULD TOTAL THE 438? >> YEAH, SO,
>> SURE, GO AHEAD. >> COME ON UP.
>> COME ON UP. [LAUGHING] >> OBVIOUSLY IT DOESN'T EQUAL 438, THAT'S YOUR QUESTION. MAYBE I SHOULD GO TO THE TUTOR
CLUB. [LAUGHING] >> SO, THE DIFFERENCE BEING THOSE THAT MAYBE SUBBED ONE TIME OR TWO TIMES IN THE LAST 60 DAYS, WE DIDN'T CONSIDER THAT TRUE REPRESENTATION OF OUR REGULAR SUBS. WE JUST PULLED THE NUMBER TOGETHER. 135 IS
THE MOST ACTIVE. >> OKAY, SO ONTO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO, WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR VACANCIES THOSE FAR, SINCE THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VACANCIES THAT HAVE BEEN ADDED INTO OUR LINE HAVE BEEN A LITTLE OVER 3300. SO, THE TOTAL FILLED, A LITTLE OVER 2700, AND UNFILLED, 935. SO, UM, WE ARE LOOKING AT A FULL RATE OF AROUND 75 PERCENT, AND THAT DOES INCLUDE TEACHERS AND
IA'S, IN THAT NUMBER. >> SO, WHEN YOU, SO THOSE AREN'T NECESSARILY SUBS, THAT MAYBE TEACHERS WHO GIVE UP THEIR PREP TO SUB, TOO, IN THOSE FILL RATES.
>> CORRECT. IF A TEACHER IS COVERING, IT COULD BE JUST ONE., SO THIS IS A HALF-DAY OR FULL-DAY VACANCIES. OKAY? ONTO THE NEXT ONE. THESE ARE JUST THE TOP FOUR REASONS FOR VACANCIES, AND THOSE ARE IN ORDER. SO, WE'VE GOT THE PERSONAL ILLNESS, FAMILY, PERSONAL DAY, AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
>> QUICK QUESTION, REALLY QUICK, TOWARDS THE VACANCY QUESTION, I APOLOGIZE. UM, DO WE HAVE, AND MAYBE IT'S FURTHER IN THE SIDE, THAT IS ONE LEVEL MORE SO THAN OTHERS? ARE WE MISSING MORE IN ELEMENTARY? DO WE FIND THAT WE HAVE MORE VACANCIES IN THE HIGH SCHOOL? DO WE FIND WE ARE MISSING MORE IN JUNIOR HIGH OR INTERMEDIATE? DO WE HAVE THAT INFORMATION?
>> COME ON UP, YES, YOU CAN USE A MICROPHONE.
>> UM, SO OBVIOUSLY, THE SIZE OF THE SCHOOL, THE HIGH SCHOOL IS VERY LARGE, SO WE HAVE MORE VACANCIES. WE THEN HAVE TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THAT ARE VERY VERY LARGE, SO WE HAVE MORE STUDENTS, MORE TEACHERS, MORE VACANCIES. SO, IT'S RELATIVE TO THE BUILDING SIZE. AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE WERE TALKING ABOUT, WE ARE GOING TO LOOK TRULY AT THE SIZE AND THE VACANCIES TO FIGURE OUT,WHERE ARE WE MISSING THE
>> YEAH, SO I FEEL LIKE, DIANE, I DON'T WANT TO STEAL YOUR THUNDER, SO, AS DIANE AND I HAVE THE GREAT PLEASURE TO WORK TOGETHER, VERY LIKE MINDS, AND SHE DOES A GREAT JOB OF
[00:35:02]
STRATEGIZING, UM, OF BEING A VISIONARY, AND PUTTING THAT INTO AN ACTION PLAN, SO I JUST WANT TO RECAP WITH OUR HIRING PROCESS, WHAT THE FIRST 30 DAYS HAVE LOOKED LIKE SINCE DIANE HAS COME ON BOARD. SO, SHE HAS REALLY SPENT TIME GOING THROUGH AND ANALYZING APPLICATIONS AND TRYING TO, YOU KNOW, LOOK FOR NEW WAYS TO SAVE TIME. SHE HAS GONE OUT TO BUILDINGS, SHE HAS GOTTEN TOGETHER ADMINISTRATORS FACE-TO-FACE. AS WE MADE A TRANSITION TO DIANE, THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF BACKLOG, SO DIANE HAS EXPEDITED THAT AND PROCESSED APPLICATION BACKLOG.SHE HAS MET WITH, SHE RECEIVES FEEDBACK AND INPUT FROM THE TEAM. SHE IS INSISTENT, AND I MOST CERTAINLY AGREE WITH HER, BUT THESE ARE OUR GUEST TEACHERS WHO COME IN EVERY DAY AND ARE VERY VALUABLE TO US AND A VERY VALUABLE PART OF OUR TEAM. AND SHE'S ALSO MODIFIED THE NEW HIRE ORIENTATION. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO JUST COME UP AND TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, HAVE CONDENSED IT FROM BEING ABOUT 3.5 HOURS TO ABOUT .
>> WE ARE ABOUT 1.5 HOURS NOW. I WAS A PERMANENT SUB, I WAS A SUB, I WAS AND IA, SO I KNEW THAT I CAME FROM CORPORATE AMERICA. I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE FIGURED THAT OUT ALREADY, SALES BACKGROUND, BUT ANYWAY, SO I KNEW WHAT WOULD HAVE HELPED ME BE A BETTER SUB MY FIRST DAY IN THE BUILDING, AND I DON'T WANT SUBS TO GO INTO THE BUILDING AND THEN THEY NEVER COME BACK. SO, I WOULD HAVE SET THE EXPECTATIONS, YOU KNOW, AND YOU COME IN, HE WILL CHECK IN, HEWOULD DO THIS, YOU WILL DO THIS, GO FOR SAMPLES , WE TALK ABOUT SAFETY IN THE BUILDING, YOU KNOW, WHY THE SUBS ARE THERE, HOW TO HANDLE, UM, CLASSROOM AND STUDENT BEHAVIOR. YOU KNOW, HOW TO BOND WITH THE TEACHERS IN THE BUILDING, AND MAKE IT A REAL ON-CALL, IF YOU WILL, ACTIVITY. WE GO THROUGH FRONTLINE AND SHOW YOU HOW TO DO EVERYTHING, SHOW THEM HOW TO GO THROUGH EMPLOYEE SELF SERVE, SO THEY KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH HER PAY STUBS AND ALL THAT SORT OF THING, MAKE IT A REAL PAIN, SO OBVIOUSLY, WE SHOW THE VIDEO AND WE SHOW THEM RIVETING PASSAGES THAT THEY HAVE ALL SEEN 50 TIMES, EVEN NOT IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. SO, WE DO ALL THAT. BUT WE DO TRAINING. AND I GO BACK TO THEM AFTER THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME AND SAY, WHAT DID I TELL YOU, WHAT DID WE GO OVER? SO WE CAN CONTINUE
TO ENHANCE. >> DON'T SIT DOWN, YOU MIGHT AS WELL JUST, SO, IF YOU LOOK AT THE SECOND 30 DAYS SINCE SHE'S BEEN WITH US, SHE CONTINUES TO BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS, UM, WITH OUR BUILDINGS, AND I DO, I WANT TO, UM, I DO WANT TO RECOGNIZE HER, BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD FROM SEVERAL BUILDINGS , UM, AS TO HOW AMAZING SHE IS AND HOW MUCH THEY REALLY APPRECIATE WORKING WITH HER AND HER FLEXIBILITY. SO, I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO, UM, POINT THAT OUT. SO AGAIN, SHE COLLABORATES WITH OUR BUILDING SUBS. SHE IS ACCESSIBLE, THEY HAVE HER CELL PHONE NUMBER. UM, SO, ALWAYS WILLING TO RESPOND TO A BUILDING. SHE WILL GO VISIT BUILDINGS, UM, ON OUR FIRST E-LEARNING DAY, AND I WILL HAVE YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKED LIKE, BUT OURSELVES CAME OVER TO THE BUILDING FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, SO IF YOU COULD TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT,
IT WOULD BE GREAT. >> DIANE: WHAT I TOLD KIM, MY PHILOSOPHY IS THE SCHOOLS, THE TEACHERS, THE STUDENTS, THEY ARE MY CUSTOMERS. THEY ARE THE SUBS CUSTOMERS, AND SO, NOT ONLY ARE WE GUEST TEACHERS, BUT WE ARE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES, AND WE WANT TO WELL THE PEOPLE IN THE BUILDING THAT WE ARE GOING TO DO A FABULOUS JOB, SHOW UP ON TIME, HAVE A GOOD ATTITUDE. WE ARE GOING TO KNOW THAT TODAY'S JUST ONE DAY. SO, IFIT'S NOT THE BEST DAY , SO, THOSE ARE SOME OF THE TRAINING THINGS, YOU KNOW, WE EVEN TALKED ABOUT WHAT BUILDINGS THEY WANTED TO BE AT.
PREVIOUSLY, WE ARE LIKE YOU ARE GOING HERE AND YOU ARE GOD GOING HERE. IF IT'S NOT A FIT, CERTAIN PEOPLE YOU WANT TO PUT WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND OTHER PEOPLE LIKE YOU BETTER THAN OTHER PEOPLE, SO LET'S PUT THE PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE MOST
[00:40:02]
EFFECTIVE. SO, WE HAD A REALLY GREAT TIME, YOU KNOW, I LEARNE A LOT ABOUT THEM, THEY LEARNED A LOT ABOUT WEEK . AND WE AREGOING TO DO IT AGAIN. >> AND THAT WAS A GREAT DAY.
SO, JUST TO SEE THE GROUP AND TO GO THROUGH THE INTRODUCTIONS AND TO LEARN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EACH OF THEM, THE RULES THAT THEY PLAY IN MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH OUR KIDS EACH DAY IS VITAL. AND THEY ARE, AGAIN, SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR TEAM, AND WE REALLY VALUE OURSELVES, SO IT WAS A GREAT MORNING, I GOT TO SPEND A FEW MINUTES WITH THEM, AS WELL AS DOCTOR STOKES, TO COME IN AND TALK TO THEM. SO, MOVE ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO, NOW HERE'S THE REALLY FUN PART WHERE WE HAVE SAT AND BRAINSTORM, AND SO THIS IS WHEN, AGAIN, I TOLD YOU, WHEN I SEE HER COMING DOWN THE HALLWAY, I JUST SAY, YES, MOVE FORWARD. SHE'S GOT AMAZING IDEAS, AND SO AGAIN, WE HAVE PUT THESE INTO ACTION PLANS, SO YOU CAN SKIM THROUGH ANDLOOK AT , UM, RECRUITING AND SETTING MARKETING GOALS, YOU KNOW, PERTAINING NEW PERMANENT SUBS, SO, AGAIN, KUDOS TO EMILY ABBOTT AND ABBY BROWN, SO THEY HAVE CREATED, THEY ARE FEATURING SUBS THAT WE ARE PROMOTING AND WE WILL SHOW YOU AT THE END OF THIS PRESENTATION. OR THE SUBS SHARE, YOU KNOW, WHY THEY ARE SUBBING IN OUR DISTRICT. AND AFTER THE FIRST POSTING, HOW
MANY SUBS? >> DIANE: ON INSTAGRAM, JEFF FRENCH'S PHOTO AND HIS POST THERE, THAT NIGHT BY 10 PM, I HAD 13 REPLICANTS. AND EMILY AND I WERE EXCITED. SO, YEAH.
SO, IT'S WORKING. >> YEAH, SO AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE, DIANE IS GOING TO CONTACT INDIANA WORKFORCE. SHE HAS VERY SPECIFIC VISION. AND AGAIN, AN ACTION PLAN FOR THE TARGET BODY THAT WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO REACH. YOU CAN SEE, SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSES, VETERANS. THE DEL WEBB COMMUNITY. COMMUNICATIONS, WE KNOW THAT'S A BIG PART, SO WE HAVE UTILIZED THE HELP OF THAT DEPARTMENT, THEY DO AN AMAZING JOB OF HELPING US REACH THOSE GOALS. AND ON THE NEXT SLIDE,
PLEASE. JANET? >> I WANTED TO POINT OUT REALLY QUICK ON THAT RECRUITING, I WANTED TO SAY, COMING FROM AN HO BACKGROUND THAT CONTACTING ALL NEW SUBS A COUPLE DAYS AFTER THEIR FIRST ASSIGNMENT, I THINK THAT'S HUGE, AND KUDOS TO YOU, BECAUSE THAT CAN REALLY AID IN RETENTION, AND OBVIOUSLY, GIVE YOU GOOD FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU COULD DO DIFFERENTLY GOING FORWARD, PERHAPS. UM, BUT I THINK THAT'S A GOOD WAY TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT LOST IN
THE FRAY, SO, >> AND ALSO, A LOOK AT THE REPORT, A LOOK AND SEE WHO IS THERE TODAY. I CALL THEM, I EMAIL, TO THANK THEM. AND THERE'S ONE GENTLEMAN WHO WORKS WITH SAVE INDIANA WHENEVER THE STATE HAS A HOLIDAY, HE SUBS FOR US. IT'S LIKE A FIGHT BECAUSE HE IS SO MUCH FUN AND THE KIDS LOVE HIM. I WANT TO GET PLUMBERS AND HVAC FOLKS IN AS SUBS, BECAUSE KIDS NEED TO KNOW, RACECAR DRIVERS NEED TO KNOW MATH, THEY NEED TO KNOW SCIENCE. THEY NEED TO KNOW AT AN EARLY AGE, AND IF WE CAN START OUT WITH OURSELVES,
>> SO, TALK ABOUT YOUR VISION THAT YOU SHARED WITH ME TO TARGET, UM, NEW 100 PERCENT COMMISSION REALTORS.
>> DIANE: SO, UM, SORRY. SO, YOU HAVE A NEW REALTOR, A NEW MORTGAGE BROKER, AND THEY ARE 100 PERCENT COMMISSION, HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY WHILE THEY ARE BUILDING THEIR PIPELINE TO CLOSE LOANS AND TO GET NEW CLIENTS? SO, WE SIGNED HIM UP AS SO IT'S, THEY WEAR THEIR POLO SHIRT WITH THEIR LOGO, THEY HAVE THEIR LANYARD THAT SAYS FC TUCKER OR WHATEVER WHEN THEY COME IN THE BUILDING, AND WE WERE ALSO THINKING ABOUT, IF WE COULD GET A COMPANY LIKE A FREEDOM MORTGAGE OR FC TUCKER TO COMMIT NEXT NUMBER OF SUBS PER YEAR, WE COULD FEATURE THEM AT A BOARD MEETING, PUT THEM IN THE NEWS LATELY LET HER, AND PART OF OUR COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP. SO, WHEN I AM MOVING TO FISHERS AND I GO ON THE WEBSITE, I SEE, OH, FC TUCKER, FREEDOM MORTGAGE, I'M GOING TO BUY MY HOUSE FROM THEM BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM. SO, WE'RE JUST GOING TO TRY TO ROLL IT AS MUCH AS WE CAN, BECAUSE MICHAEL, AS I TOLD KIM, I WANT TO BE THE POSTER CHILD FOR THE BEST SUBS, AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE GOING.
>> I WILL TELL YOU, AS A REALTOR IN THE AREA FOR 26 YEARS, FOR CARPENTER REALTORS, JUST KIDDING. BUT I SOBBED FOR 11 YEARS, AND SO, YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT. WHEN BUSINESS
[00:45:02]
IS SLOW, IT'S A GREAT WAY TO BE IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, HELP YOUR STUDENTS, HELP SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING, AND AT THE SAME TIME, YOU ARE CORRECT, YOU DON'T GET PAID EVERY DAY WHEN IT COMES TO REAL ESTATE, BUT IT'S A GREAT WAY TO BE INVOLVED IN YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.>> I HAVE TWO THOUGHTS. THE COMPANY I WORK FOR DOES HAVE VOLUNTEER HOURS, I HAVE EIGHT OF THEM, SO THAT'S A GREAT IDEA, I THINK, TO PUSH THAT MESSAGE OUT. THE OTHER IDEA FOR OUR TARGET AUDIENCE, ALTHOUGH IT WOULD BE SOMEWHAT TEMPORARY, WOULD BE OUR FOUNDATION IS WORKING ON ALUMNI DATABASE. AND IF WE COULD TARGET THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE TWO YEARS OUT, THEY HAVE TO HAVE TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE CREDIT STILL, 30 HOURS, BUT A LOT OF OUR KIDS GRADUATE WITH 10 OR SO, SO, LOTS OF COLLEGE CREDIT, BUT JUST AN IDEA, JUST TO PUT IT OUT THERE, IN APRIL WHEN THE KIDS ARE LEAVING, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO FOR THE SUMMER, YOU NEED TO GET A LOT OF SUBS IN MAY, AT THE END OF THE YEAR.
>> AND WE DO GET A LOT IN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS WHEN WE DIDN'T GO BACK TO SCHOOL YET. WE SIGN UP FOR A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE
THEY WENT. SO, >> OKAY, SO IF YOU COULD JUST GO ONTO THE NEXT SLIDE, THIS JUST SHOWS SOME OF THE MEDIA POSTS THAT WE ARE MAKING, AND FEATURING OUR PERMANENT SUBS, AND WHY THEY SUBSTITUTE TEACH, AND ONE IS OUR HIRING FLYER THAT IS SPECIFICALLY JUST FOR OURSELVES, SO WE DO HAVE A COUPLE OUT THERE, BUT WE DO HAVE ONE THAT TARGETS JUST SUBS, AND THEN ON THE FINAL SLIDE, THIS IS JUST, OH, I'M SORRY. A COUPLE MORE SLIDES. SO, TALK ABOUT YOUR NEXT, ON YOUR NEXT 30 DAYS, I THINK WE HAVE HIT MOST OF THESE, BUT DIANE IS ALSO WORKING THROUGH OUR WEBSITE TO, AGAIN, JUST
MAKE SOME CHANGES. >> MAKE IT FASTER, MAKE IT MORE FUN. I LOOK AT ALL THE COMPETITORS IN THE OTHER SCHOOLS. HEY, I LIKE THAT IDE . SO, PEOPLE WANT TO GO THERE.
YOU KNOW? >> AND ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH THE SUBS, AND I THINK, IS OUR FINAL SLIDE COMING UP? YEAH, SO THIS IS JUST A GREAT, THAT WAS OUR E-LEARNING DAY. AND A LOT OF FAMILIAR FACES. THERE ARE SOME SUBS IN THIS PICTURE WHOHAVE SOLVED IN OUR DISTRICT FOR A VERY LONG TIME, AND I THINK THAT SPEAKS VERY HIGHLY , UM, OF OUR DISTRICT, AND WELL, OF COURSE, WHILE WE ARE HERE, WE WILL MAKE A PLUG FOR ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN SUBBING, PLEASE CONTACT US AND WE ARE HAPPY TO GET THE PROCESS AND
GET YOU GOING. [LAUGHING] >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'M EXCITED TO HEAR THAT YOU HAVE STREAMLINED THE ONBOARDING, I GOT MYSELF LICENSED DURING COVID, SO I COULD HELP FILL IN AND KEEP OUR BUILDINGS OPEN. I MAINLY ONLY GO TO MY KIDS SCHOOL. THE SUB COORDINATOR IN THE BUILDING JUST KIND OF TEXTS ME IN THE EVENINGS IF SHE'S GOT OPENINGS. BUT THE TRAINING WAS LONG, THE VIDEOS, IT WAS ABOUT FOUR HOURS, IT WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION, AND I LEFT THINKING, MAN, DID I RETAIN THAT? SO, STREAMLINING THAT AND HAVING FOLLOW-UP IS REALLY
IMPORTANT. >> WHAT DO I EXPECT WHEN I GET INTO THE CLASSROOM? WHAT DO I DO IF THIS HAPPENS? YOU KNOW?
THAT'S IMPORTANT. >> AND IT'S A GREAT WAY FOR PARENTS TO SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR CLASSROOMS, AND I GET TO EAT LUNCH WITH MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE IS THERE AND SHE IS SO EXCITED THAT YOU ARE THERE FOR THE DAY AND REALLY BE INVOLVED, SO IF YOU ARE WATCHING, SIGN UP. ONE DAY. I MEAN, YES, THAT'S THE THING I HEAR FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE, THEY THINK YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALL THE TIME, AND YOU REALLY DON'T, YOU CAN PICK AND CHOOSE WHEN YOU HAVE THOSE THREE DAYS OR THE EIGHT HOURS OF VOLUNTEER TIME, SO IF YOU ARE WATCHING, HE NEEDS SUBS.
SO, THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THAT. >> THANK YOU. AND NEXT UP, WE HAVE MS. OGDEN ON AN UPDATE ON OUR FOOD SERVICE STAFF.
>> GOOD EVENING. I HAVE GOT SOME GREAT TAKEAWAYS FROM ALL OF, ALL OF THE SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS, AND YES, WE NEED HELP AS WELL. SO, THE LAST THREE MONTHS, LAST THREE MONTHS HAS BEEN A WHIRLWIND. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT WHIRLWIND REALLY. WE HAVE BEEN WELCOMING LOTS OF OUR NEW EMPLOYEES, WE HAVE, UM, WE HAVE NOT FILLED ALL OF OUR POSITIONS, UNFORTUNATELY. BUT WE ARE MAKING SOME GREAT PROGRESS. WE HAVE HAD AROUND 100 APPLICATIONS PUT IN THROUGH THE SYSTEM AND PRETTY MUCH STARTED THE END OF JULY. WE HAVE INTERVIEWED PROBABLY 80 OF THOSE PEOPLE AND HIRED AROUND 50 PEOPLE THAT HAVE STAYED.
LET'S SAY. WE FEEL LIKE WE TAKE TWO STEPS FORWARD AND 1.5
[00:50:01]
STEPS BACK EVERY WEEK. SO, WHAT WE REALLY HAVE BEEN DOING IS EVALUATING AND LOOKING AT SOME OF THE DATA AS WE HAVE COLLECTED EACH MONTH TO SEE WHAT OUR SALES ARE, SEE HOW OUR PROCESSES ARE IN THE KITCHENS AND HOW WE ARE DOING THINGS AND HOW WE WANT TO IMPROVE THE PROGRAM, AND WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF THERE'S A BETTER WAY TO DO THINGS THAT MIGHT SLIM DOWN OUR NEED TO BE ABLE TO SURVIVE THROUGH THE HIRING PROCESS CRISIS, BECAUSE IT'S NOT GOING TO FIX ITSELF, I'M NOT GOING TO FILL MY 30 POSITIONS, WHICH IS WHERE I FEEL LIKE WE WOULD BE FULLY FUNCTIONING AT EVERY BUILDING, EVERY LINE OPEN WITH 30 PEOPLE, AND A MAJORITY OF THOSE 30 PEOPLE ARE IN HIGH SCHOOLS. THEY ARE THE BIGGEST NEED RIGHT NOW. I MEAN, BUT IT'S REALLY IN THE SECONDARY LEVEL THAT WE ARE STRUGGLING. THEY'RE DOING A GREAT JOB, EVERY DAY, THEY COME IN, THEY WORK THROUGH IT, WE WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE, SO I'M VERY THANKFUL TO OUR TEAM THAT HAS KEPT US, KEPT US GOING AND REALLY DOING WHAT WE ARE HERE TO DO. WE ARE CONTINUALLY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN GET MORE EMPLOYEES, YOU KNOW, WHERE IS IT THAT WE CAN OUTREACH AND TRY TO FIND, NOT THE TRADITIONAL PERSON THAT WE WOULD WANT. WE HAVE A HUGE VARIETY, IT COULD EITHER BE FULL-TIME, YOU CAN BE PART-TIME, YOU CAN BEFORE HOURS, IT COULD BE 5.5 HOURS.SO, IT'S GREAT FOR, FOR MORE OF A STREAMLINED KIND OF JOB MARKET. YOU KNOW, YES, ARE IDEAL, OUR MOST POPULAR IS MOMS OR A PARENT. PARENT, I SHOULD SAY, NOT HOMES. A PARENT, GUARDIAN, GRANDPARENTS, WE HAVE A LOT OF, A LOT OF THE COMMUNITY, UM, IN OUR SCHOOLS DOING THAT. BUT WE ARE ALSO WORKING ON SOME LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS, UM, WE ADVERTISED THROUGH INDEED. WE HAVE GOTTEN SOME APPLICATIONS, NOT A TON, BUT WE HAVE GOTTEN SOME, AND I ALWAYS FOLLOW-UP AND INVITE THEM, EVEN THOUGH THE INFORMATION IS ON THE WEBSITE, BUT YOU HAVE TO INVITE THEM TO APPLY AGAIN. AND SOME OF OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WORKING FOR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS PROGRAM, WE ATTENDED THE REVERSE JOB FAIR THAT SARAH POSTED LAST WEEK. WE ARE WORKING WITH THE ACADEMY RIGHT NOW TRYING TO SET UP SOME STUDENTS THAT COULD GO TO THE SCHOOL, AND ALSO BE TRANSPORTED BY OUR TRANSPORTATION, WHICH IS GREAT, I CAN'T WAIT TO START AT. AND THEN I'VE ALSO MET WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR POSITIVE GROWTH, AND THEY ARE AN ACTOR PROGRAM, ONCE THEY GRADUATE OUT OF THE PROGRAM AND WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THEM, THEIR BACKGROUNDS, AND THEY WANT TO VOLUNTEER, THEY REALLY WANT TO TRY, WE HAVE THIS ONE LADY, YOUNG LADY, SHE IS GOING TO START VOLUNTEERING FOR A COUPLE WEEKS, ONE DAY A WEEK, WITH HER JOB COACH, AND THEY COME IN, AND THEN IT'S REALLY DECIDING IF IT'S GOOD FOR US, IF IT'S GOOD FOR HER, IF IT WORKS AND SOMETHING THAT SHE'S CAPABLE OF DOING, SO, THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE ARE AT. SO, YOU DO HAVE PEOPLE WHO JUST
WANT TO WORK ONE DAY A WEEK? >> THEY WOULD GO TO SUB STATUS.
IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO DO, THE WAY THE SYSTEM IS SET UP RIGHT NOW, IS PEOPLE TYPICALLY THAT HAVE RESIGNED OR DECIDED THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO WORK FULL TIME, THEY WILL GO TO SUB STANDARDS. BUT THEN THEY ARE VERY SPECIFIC, THEY ONLY WANT TO GO TO ONE SCHOOL. IF WEWERE TO DO, HE WOULD HAVE TO BE , IF I HAD, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE JOB SHARE, WHERE SOMEBODY WANTS TO WORK MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, SOMEBODY WANTS TO WORK TUESDAY, THURSDAY, BUT IT'S REALLY HARD TO MANAGE, THEY ALMOST HAVE TO PMANAGE IT TOGETHER TO CREATE THAT ONE PERSON.
>> SO WHEN YOU SAID FOUR HOURS AND 5.5 HOURS, THAT WOULD BE
EVERY DAY. >> THAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
SOMEONE TO FILL THAT POSITION. >> YES, EVERY DAY.
>> BUT YES, WE WOULD TAKE SOMEONE FOR ONE DAY A WEEK.
>> AND THEN I HAVE A QUESTION, YOU SAID, IF YOU COULD GET 30 PEOPLE RIGHT NOW, YOU WOULD BE FULLY STAFFED, IS THAT CORRECT?
>> LET ME REPHRASE THAT. WE WOULD NOT, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO
OPEN ALL LINES AT ALL SCHOOLS. >> I WAS GOING TO ASK, WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF NOT BEING FULLY STAFFED, ESPECIALLY AT THE HIGH
SCHOOLS? I KNOW, >> OFFERINGS. UM, IT SPREADS
[00:55:09]
OUT THE LINES, IT GOES A LITTLE QUICKER. THE LINES MOVE VERY QUICKLY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, THEY REALLY DO. EVEN THOUGH THE KIDS COMPLAIN, YOU KNOW, THIS LINE IS COMPLETELY EMPTY OR THERE'S TWO OR THREE PEOPLE AND YOU GO TO THEM, AND YOU KEEP SAYING LINE IS OPEN. SO, THEY DON'T WANT TO MOVE, THEY ARE STILL ON THEIR PHONE, THEY DON'T WANT TO LEAVE THEIR FRIENDS, BUT WOULD HELP SPEED UP THE LINES AND IT WOULD HELP WITH THE VARIETY AND OPTIONS. THAT WE COULD OFFER.>> I'VE FORGOTTEN AT FISHERS, BUT AT HSC, THEY HAVE DIFFERENT NAMES FOR DIFFERENT PARTS, OR SOME OF THOSE, WHATEVER GUARDIAN OR THE PIZZA WERE, ARE SOME OF THOSE JUST NOT OPEN BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE? TO PREPARE THE FOOD?
>> AT HSC, WE HAVE, IN THE MAIN AREA, WE HAVE FIVE LINES THAT ARE OPEN. ALL THOSE LINES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE, WHICH I THINK YOU ARE REFERRING TO AS GARDEN, IS REALLY THE COLD SALADS AND SANDWICHES, BUT ALL THE OTHER ONES OFFER PRETTY MUCH ALL THE SAME FOODS. AND THEN CCA, I THINK, THERE ARE THREE LINES OPEN THERE. WE JUST DON'T HAVE OUR COFFEE
SHOP. >> NO COFFEE SHOP, MAN. THAT WAS ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS ONE THAT OPENED, BUT OKAY, I APPRECIATE THAT. AND I DO LIKE THAT YOU ARE EXPLORING OTHER OPTIONS FOR THAT, AND EVEN, YOU KNOW, SOME STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES. I WOULD ASSUME, WOULD YOU ENTERTAIN HAVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WORKING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL? OR DO YOU THINK THAT MIGHT NOT BE SOMETHING THEY WOULD WANT TO DO?
>> YES, I WOULD ENTERTAIN IT. MOST OF THEM DO NOT WANT TO
WORK, >> BUT THEN YOU THINK OF WORK-STUDY, AND I AM NOT SAYING I MEAN, ALL KIDS COULD USE MONEY, LET'S JUST PUT IT THAT WAY. IN COLLEGE, YOU KNOW, THEY HAVE KIDS WHO WORK IN THE DINING HALLS, BUT I CAN SEE IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT IN HIGH SCHOOL.
>> WE'VE DONE THAT WITH SOME OF THE EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS, AT LIKE FISHERS, AND THEY'VE BEEN GOING ACROSS THE STREET TO
FISHERS ELEMENTARY. >> THAT'S AWESOME.
>> THEY LIKE THAT, BECAUSE THEY CAN WALK ACROSS THE STREET.
BUT WE WILL TRANSPORT THEM TO SCHOOLS.
>> OKAY, THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH, I
>> NEXT UP, FIVE-POINT 03, WE HAVE MISS DOWLING, A PUBLIC
HEARING ON THE BUDGET. >> GOOD EVENING. POWERPOINT PLEASE. THANK YOU, JEFF. SO, WELCOME, COME ONE, COME ALL, OUR 2023 BUDGET HEARING. UM, FIRST ONE WE WILL GO THROUGH HIS EDUCATION FUND. FOR EVERYONE'S INFORMATION, THE BUDGET ESTIMATE, AS YOU CAN SEE, IS JUST OVER $151 MILLION.
IT'S A CONSERVATIVE REVENUE ESTIMATE, AS YOU GUYS WILL KNOW, IN JANUARY, WE HAVE A BIENNIUM OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE, SO WHEN WE FIGURE THAT REVENUE AND EDUCATION FUND IN A BUDGET PREP YEAR, WE ARE FIGURING IT BASED ON OUR EXISTING POINT WE ANTICIPATE AN INCREASE, BUT WE DIDN'T WANT TO BE TO POSITIVE. TOO HOPEFUL. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE STATEMENT MIGHT BE. SO, WE WERE CONSERVATIVE WITH IT, JUST TO PROTECT OURSELVES, AND SO THAT WE DON'T OVERSHOOT THE MARK.
BETTER REVENUE ESTIMATES FOR US, THAT WILL ALLOW FOR SOME ADDITIONS, WE KIND OF BUILT INTO OUR TEACHER AND RESIDENCE PROGRAM OF GLOBAL STUDIES, THERE'S A LOT OF STEPS BEFORE THAT, BUT WE'VE ALLOCATED THAT DEPENDING ON HOW THAT REVENUE COMES IN. TEACHER COMPENSATION IS BUILT INTO HERE, WE RATIFY THE CONTRACT HERE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. OUR OTHER BUILDING, THESE ARE YOUR IA'S, YOUR FRONT OFFICE STAFF, ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE PERMISSIBLE FOR INDIANA STATE BOARD OF ACCOUNTS TO HAVE AN EDUCATION FUND. UM, THE OTHER MAJOR INCREASE TO THIS FUND WOULD BE THE INCREASE TO THE MEDICAL INSURANCE STOP LAWS, WHEN WE REFORMULATED THE INSURANCE PLANS FOR THE 20 Ã WHAT WENT INTO EFFECT FOR THIS YEAR, A TWO-TIERED TO A FOUR-YEAR PLAN, HAD AN IMPACT ON FULL, AS WELL AS FUNDED FIVE PERCENT OVER EXPECTED, ONE OF THE COMMITMENTS WAS WE WERE GOING TO REALLY TRY TO LEVEL THAT OFF, SO WE HAD AN INCREASE IN OUR STOP LAWS THAT AMOUNTED TO JUST OVER NINE PERCENT, AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THE DISTRICT IS ABSORBING. AND SO, THAT'S BUILT IN, BUT YOU CAN IMAGINE ON A $30 MILLION YEAR PLAN, THAT'S PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. NOT THAT IT'S 3 MILLION, BECAUSE THAT ISN'T THE INCREASE, BUT THAT STOP LOSS IS A BIG COMPONENT. THE NEXT FUND WE WILL GO THROUGH HIS
[01:00:02]
OPERATIONS ON. BUDGET ESTIMATE IS JUST OVER $40 MILLION.AGAIN, STAFF COMPENSATION INCREASES, THIS IS GOING TO BE, UM, YOUR NONSCHOOL STAFF, SO THIS IS GOING TO BE THE CUSTODIAL STAFF THAT ARE EMPLOYED BY US, FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE, THINGS OF THAT NATURE. UM, TECHNOLOGY. WE HAD A SIZABLE INCREASE IN UTILITY COSTS FROM DUKE ENERGY DUE TO A RATE INCREASE, I BELIEVE IT WAS PROJECTED, I SEE THAT I ROLLS UP THERE, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO DID THAT. IT'S PROJECTED TO BE ROUGHLY FIVE TO $600,000 AT A MINIMUM. AS A RESULT OF THAT, WE ARE IDENTIFYING SOME ENERGY MUST SOME ENERGY PROJECTS FOR THE FUTURE WE CAN TRY TO HAVE TO TRY TO COMBAT THAT. AN INCREASE IN FUEL COSTS, WE ARE ACTUALLY PART OF THE CONSORTIUM, SO WE HAVE NOT ACTUALLY FELT THE INCREASE OF FUEL COSTS IN OUR FLEET AT THIS POINT IN TIME, BUT THAT CONTRACT IS UP IN MAY OF NEXT YEAR, SO WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SEE WHERE WE ARE AT, BUT WE NEEDED TO BUILD IN AN INCREASE, BECAUSE WE ARE PAYING SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN WHAT WE WOULD BE IF THAT WASN'T IN PLACE. YOU SEE REPEATED, THAT INCREASE TO MEDICAL INSURANCE
AND THE STOP LOSS. >> MS. KATIE, WHAT DID YOU SAY THE DUKE ENERGY INCREASE, DID YOU SAY 500,000 INCREASE?
>> NO, 500 IS THE INCREASE, THAT'S THE INFORMATION THAT MR.
RICE GAVE US, YES. >> $500,000 INCREASE ACROSS ALL LOCATIONS FOR A FULL YEAR, ETC., YES.
>> OKAY, THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU, JEFF. THE BUDGET ESTIMATE FOR THE REFERENDUM FUND IS JUST OVER 25 MILLION DOLLARS. YOU SEE SOME RECURRING THEMES, YOU HEAR US TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE AND THEIR COSTS, THAT'S OUR BIGGEST PIECE, BUT STAFF COMPENSATION IS A PART OF THIS. AN INCREASE IN COSTS FOR CUSTODIAL SERVICE AGREEMENT, IF YOU REMEMBER, MR. DELK'S WAS VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT WHEN WE REBID THIS CONTRACT, WE ARE GOING TO SEE AN INCREASE IN COSTS, AND WE DID SEE ONE, SO THAT IS BUILT INTO HERE. WE ARE SEEIG AN ESTIMATE OF AN INCREASE FOR THE LIABILITY INSURANCE COVERAGES, SO THAT IS BUILT IN. AND THEN AGAIN, SORRY FOR THE REDUNDANCY, BUT IT DOES IMPACT ALL THE FUNDS, THE INCREASE TO THE MEDICAL
INSURANCE STOP LOSS CLAUSE. >> SORRY, SO THOSE FOUR CATEGORIES MAKE UP THE REFERENDUM FUND?
>> NO, THOSE ARE THE NOTED INCREASES TO THE REFERENDUM FUND. FOR THE ADDITIONAL EXPENDITURES. NEXT ARE OUR DEBT SERVICE FUNDS, WEDO HAVE THREE DEBT SERVICE FUNDS, SCHOOL PENSION THAT ESTIMATED BUDGET IS 389,000 . DEBT SERVICE, WHICH IS NOT EXEMPT FROM TAX CAPS, THAT'S WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN JUST THAT SERVICE AND THEY EXEMPT, IT'S JUST OVER 50 2.5 MILLION, IF YOU WILL REMEMBER, WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF PART OF OUR DEBT ISSUANCES, WE HAVE JUST DONE ONE, WE WILL HAVE A SECOND, SO ROUGHLY 28 MILLION OF THAT IS GOING TO BE REPAYMENT OF DEBT WE'VE ISSUED THIS YEAR THAT WE WILL REPAY NEXT YEAR, JUST TO KEEP THAT IN MIND. AND THEN THE REFERENDUM EXEMPT DEBT IS JUST UNDER 13 MILLION. JUST FOR EVERYBODY'S INFORMATION, THOSE ARE BASED ON OUR REPAYMENT SCHEDULE, SO THEY FLUCTUATE BASED ON THE DEBT SCHEDULES. THOSE ARE APPROVED AT THE TIME THAT THE DEBT IS ISSUED. WE FILE THEM ON THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE GATEWAY, AND THAT'S REALLY WHAT DICTATES THESE NUMBERS. THEY DON'T REALLY FLUCTUATE, ARE ONLY FLUCTUATING NUMBER IS THE DEBT THAT WE ARE ISSUING NEW,WHICH I
JUST REFERRED. >> IS THAT CCA , WHAT WAS THAT?
THESE ARE. >> THE REFERENDUM EXEMPT? I WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK AND LOOK AT WHAT WAS LISTED, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN REFERENDUM DEBT. IT WAS PRIOR TO ME BEING HERE.
>> SO, THINGS THAT THE PUBLIC VOTED ON ARENOT , OKAY. I THINK THE LAST ONE WAS THE CCA SOUTHEASTERN.
>> I WOULD HAVE TO LOOK AT ALL THE ISSUANCES.
>> CCA AND AN EXTRA ELEMENTARY, WHICH ENDED UP BEING
SOUTHEASTERN, I THINK. >> THE OTHER FUNDS THAT WE SUBMIT FOR YOUR APPROVAL, THE RAINY DAY FUND, 2.5 MILLION, I'M SURE YOU GUYS ARE TIRED OF HEARING THIS, BUT AS YOU KNOW, WE ALLOCATE 2.5 MILLION FOR THE BEGINNING OF OUR COSTS FOR FACILITIES, FOR ALL OF THEIR FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2023, WE DO THAT TO DELAY HAVING TO ISSUE THE DEBT, WHICH RESULTS IN LOWER INTEREST COSTS. AND ESSENTIALLY, WE REPAY WHAT WE'VE SPENT AND WE MAKE IT WHOLE, SO OVERALL, THAT FUND BALANCE DOES NOT CHANGE FROM YEAR TO YEAR, IT'S LITERALLY IN AND OUT. THEN THE SELF-INSURANCE FUND, THIS IS THE DENTAL PORTION ONLY. WHEREAS THE REST OF IT, THE REST OF IT IS IN AN INSURANCE TRUST THAT'S ACTUALLY EXTERNAL TO THE DISTRICT FUNDS, THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T SEE IT. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY DENTAL, WE KEPT, IT'S JUST THE WAY WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT, SO MAYBE SOMEDAY WE WILL PUT IN THE TRUST AND YOU
WILL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. >> UM, LEGAL REQUIREMENTS, JUST
[01:05:03]
FOR THE BOARD AND THE PUBLIC'S INFORMATION, SO BE REQUIRED TO PREPARE A FORM THREE, WHICH HAS OUR BUDGET ESTIMATES AND SOME OTHER THINGS. I HAVE A SAMPLE THAT WE WILL HIT WHEN WE GO THROUGH. NOT A SAMPLE, AND ACTUAL BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN AND THE CAPITOL PROJECT PLAN THAT ARE ALL REQUIRED TO BE COMPLETED AS PART OF THE LEGAL PROCESS, IT'S POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE. IT IS POSTED ON THE DL GF DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE GATEWAY, AND THEN THE NOTICE OF HEARING; ALONG FOR THAT, SO WE MET ALL THOSE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATE REMOVED THE REQUIREMENT TO ADVERTISE IN NEWSPAPERS SEVERAL YEARS AGO. BUT THEY ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE.>> NEXT SLIDE, SO THIS IS THE FORM THREE, THIS ENTIRE DOCUMENT IS ON OUR WEBSITE, WORD DOCS, AS WELL AS THROUGH THE GATEWAY SITE, AND THIS ESSENTIALLY LISTS ALL THE BUDGET ESTIMATES THAT I JUST WENT THROUGH, AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THERE IS A MAXIMUM ESTIMATE OF FUNDS THAT TELLS YOU THE CURRENT TAX LEVY, AND THEN YOU FEEL THAT THE PERCENTAGE DIFFERENCE, WHICH I ALWAYS SAY, AS I SAID LAST YEAR, IT'S NOT REALLY GOING TO GO UP. WE ADVERTISE HI TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM THINGS THAT WE CAN'T CONTROL, LIKE OUR OVERLAPPING TAX DISTRICTS, SO WHAT I WOULD TELL YOU IS, IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, JEFF, TAX RATE INFORMATION FOR EVERYBODY, WE KNOW THAT ACTUAL RATE, ONCE WE GET OUR BUDGET ORDER, WHICH IS USUALLY TAIL END OF DECEMBER OR THE VERY BEGINNING OF JANUARY, SO WHAT WE ARE ESTIMATING, YOU CAN SEE, IS JUST OVER A DOLLAR, WHICH WILL BE THE FIFTH YEAR OF A REDUCTION IN OUR OVERALL TAX RATE TO THE SCHOOL APPROPRIATION, THAT'S WHAT WE ARE ESTIMATING WILL HAPPEN, SO WE ARE NOT ACTUALLY EXPECTING THE TAX RATE TO GO UP IN ANY WAY. THE NEXT SLIDE IS THE BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN. UM, SO, WE DO USE A LEAST PURCHASED METHOD HERE AND IT'S A THREE-YEAR TERM. TOTAL COST FOR THIS INCOMING BUDGET YEAR IS JUST UNDER 2.3 MILLION, AND THAT'S APPROXIMATELY 50 BUDGET LEASES, SO THAT'S ROUGHLY 17 BUSES PER YEAR ON AVERAGE. THE DOLLAR AMOUNT AND SORT OF WHAT IS APPROVED, SOMETIMES WE.
>> ,FOR EXAMPLE, MR. MCKINNEY, BASED ON THEIR NEEDS, DECIDED I DON'T NEED A NEW THOMAS FULL-SIZE, I NEED TO ACTIVITY BUSES, THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED EARLIER THIS YEAR, SO BE ADDED TO ACTIVITY, IT'S ABOUT EQUIVALENT TO ONE, BECAUSE THEY NEEDED THAT FLEXIBILITY. AND WE ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO REPLACE BUSES AFTER 12 YEARS OR MORE. NOT PRIOR TO THAT, UNLESS IT'S A MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE, OR IF WE WERE TO WRAP IT, SO WE DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN, SO WE REPLACE THEM AT 12 YEARS OR MORE. IF YOU KEEP THEM LONGER TO 12, YOUR SUBJECT TO TWICE A YEAR PLUS INSPECTIONS, WHICH ARE FUN. OUR MILEAGE IS GETTING PRETTY HIGH, WHICH IS HARDER TO MAKE THOSE BUSES LAST
LONGER. >> KATIE, ON THE FORM THAT SAYS BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN, AND MAYBE IT'S SOMEWHERE ON THERE AND I DID NOT SEE IT, DO YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW DOES ANYBODY ON THE BOARD KNOW, WHAT IS THE CD, THE VEHICLE CODE, LIKE CAN YOU TELL
US WHAT THAT MEANS? >> VEHICLE CODE?
>> YEAH, LIKE ON THE BUSES, SOME OF THE BUSES ARE SEE, SOME DEEP, SOME EIGHT, YEAH, I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT THAT MEANS.
>> IT'S JUST HOW WE TITLE THEM FOR TRACKING PURPOSES FOR TRANSPORTATION. IT COULD ALSO JUST BE THE WAY IT'S TITLED OR THAT DESCRIPTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE A GMC ACADIA, BUT SOMEBODY ELSE MIGHT HAVE A GMC ACADIA DENIAL LEAPING I THINK IT RELATES TO THE TYPE OF BUS IT IS. A IS USUALLY ABOUT CDL, USUALLY IF YOU NEED AN A LICENSE, I BELIEVE THAT'S AN CDL, BUT THOSE ARE REALLY INTERNAL FOR
ZACH. >> OKAY, I WAS JUST WONDERING.
I COULD READ ALL THE OTHER NUMBERS, I JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE LETTERS MEANT. OKAY, THANK YOU.
>> THE NEXT SLIDE IS THE CAPITOL PROJECTS PLAN. WE ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO IDENTIFY ALL OF OUR X POSITIONS, 10,000 OR MORE, AND ARE PAID FROM THE OPERATIONS FUND, SO THIS IS IN ALL FUNDS, THIS ISN'T REQUIRED IF IT'S COMING OUT OF THE BOND FUND, IT'S JUST RELATED TO OPERATIONS. THESE THINGS ARE LIMITED TO KIND OF THE THINGS YOU SEE UP THERE, RADIOS, CUSTODIAL EQUIPMENT, ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT, THIS IS THE REFINISHING OF YOUR GYMS FLOORS, PLAYGROUND REPAIRS, THINGS OF THAT NATURE. AND BECAUSE WE ALLOCATE A CERTAIN DOLLAR AMOUNT PER LOCATION, WE ADVERTISE THAT, JUST TO COVER IT, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH MAYBE IT'S $5000 IN CUSTODIAL EQUIPMENT, IF WE MULTIPLY THAT OUT, IT SIGNIFICANTLY MORE, SO TO BE TRANSPARENT, WE JUST PUT THEM ON THERE TO COVER OURSELVES. BUT IF YOU DON'T COVER IT, THEN YOU CAN'T TECHNICALLY SPEND IT OUT OF THAT PARTICULAR FUND.
>> QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE, ALSO A REMINDER THAT I WILL BE BACK IN TWO WEEKS, I KNOW YOU CAN'T WAIT, FOR OUR BUDGET
[01:10:03]
ADOPTION, AND THAT WILL ACTUALLY HAVE LIKE A FORM FOR THAT WILL HAVE THE ANTICIPATED TAX RATES AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF, SO THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION AND I AM HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.>> WELL, I DIDN'T SEE THAT PRESENTATION ON BOARD DOCS.
CAN WE GET THAT? >> IT WILL BE.
>> THANK YOU. >> I ALREADY SENT IT TO DENISE, SHE WILL PUT IT UP WHEN THE MEETINGS ARE OVER. I WANTED
YOU TO BE SURPRISED. >> AND WE WERE. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK, I KNOW IT'S NICE THAT SOMEBODY UNDERSTANDS.
>> TO YOUR CREDIT, STEPHANIE MADISON IS A BIG COMPONENT OF THIS, OUR DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS, SHE PREPARES THE OPERATIONS OF BUDGET, AS WELL AS REFERENDUM, AND WORK THROUGH THOSE REPLACEMENT PLANS. HER DAUGHTER IS GETTING MARRIED THIS WEEKEND, AND SO, SHE DID TAKE THE WEEK OFF, SO SHE COULD, YOU KNOW, GOSH DARN, HER DAUGHTER FOR NOT PLANNING AROUND THE BUDGET MEETING, SO THIS ISN'T POSSIBLE WITHOUT HER AS WELL. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE TO MENTION THAT.
>> I HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT. >> YEAH, YOU DO, DON'T GO TOO
FAR. >> I DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE TO SAY MUCH ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE WE WERE PREVIEWING THIS TODAY, AND THEN I TOOK A LOOK AT THE ADVERTISEMENT, I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE ADVERTISEMENT, SO I WILL BE COMING BACK TO YOU
AGAIN ON THE 26. >> OKAY, EASY. THANK YOU.
[7. Board President]
>> WE DID HAVE TWO EXTRA ITEMS ON OUR AGENDA, BUT BOTH HAVE BEEN TABLED, TO CLARIFY SOME INFORMATION, SO WE DON'T ACTUALLY HAVE ANY ITEMS TONIGHT. WE WILL JUST MOVE ALONG TO THE BOARD PRESIDENT'S REPORT, AND I DON'T HAVE MUCH ON THAT EITHER. SO, I WILL PASS THIS TO DIRECTOR STOKES.
[8. Superintendent's Report]
>> IT'S MY TURN, ALL RIGHT THEN. SO, I JUST HAVE A COUPLE THINGS, AND THEN I AM GOING TO BE REALLY BRIEF. ONE IS THAT I WANT TO REMIND EVERY PARENT, THERE IS WHAT NEXT WEEK? WHO KNOWS? FALL BREAK. SO, JUST REMEMBER. [LAUGHING] MONDAY, OCTOBER 17 THROUGH THE 21ST, FALL BREAK, SO DON'T SHOW UP AT THE DOORS, OKAY? TELL YOUR STUDENTS, DON'T SHOW UP. BUT I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT FOR SOMETHING THAT NEW BRITAIN IS DOING TOMORROW, THEIR INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION, AND IT SAYS FREE FAMILY EVENT FROM 5:30 TO 7:00, PRESENTED BY MS. KAUFMAN AND THE TRAVEL CLUB. SO, I ASKED IF ANYBODY COULD SHOW UP, BUT I'M SURE IF YOU ARE A NEW BRITAIN FAMILY, YOU CAN, AND OTHERS WE MIGHT JUST HAVE TO SNEAK OVER, OKAY? SO, I THINK IT WILL BE EXCITING AND I DID WANT TO SHARE THAT. I JUST WANT TO SAY, UM, AS I HAVE SHARED IN MY UPDATE BEFORE, WE HAVE FINISHED OUR FIRST QUARTER. I THINK WE HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB, I KNOW OUR STUDENTS ARE EXCITED, I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO SPEAK WITH A GROUP OF STUDENTS OVER AT RIVERSIDE JUNIOR HIGH AND HEAR THEIR VOICE ABOUT THEIR EXPECTATIONS. AND ONE THING THAT I WANTED TO SHARE, THE ONE THING THAT THE STUDENTS SAID THAT THEY FELT WAS THE BEST AND THEY HAD TO VOTE ON IT, WAS THAT THE TEACHERS IN THEIR BUILDING SUPPORT THEM, HEAR THEIR VOICES, AND THEY BELIEVE THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT THEM, SO I DID WANT A SHOUT OUT FOR OUR TEACHERS FOR THE GREAT THINGS YOU DO, BECAUSE I'M SURE IT'S NOT JUST AT RIVERSIDE JUNIOR HIGH, I'M SURE IT'S AT ALL BUILDINGS. SO JUST BE REMINDED THAT OUR STUDENTS APPRECIATE YOU AND WE DO, TOO. WITH THAT, I'M JUST GOING TO, IF YOU WILL, PULL UP OUR NEXT AGENDA FOR THE 26, OUR NEXT BOARD MEETING. WE ARE GOING TO LOOK AT THE DRAFT. I DO WANT TO HIGHLIGHT A COUPLE THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MAY NOT BE THERE. ONE IS OUR BOARD PRESIDENT TALKED ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE HAD A COUPLE OF ITEMS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR ACTION, SO THEY WILL BE ON THIS AGENDA. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S THERE OR NOT, BUT THEY WILL BE ON THIS AGENDA. I'M TRYING TO SEE WHAT ELSE. THAT'S THE PURSUIT INSTITUTE. AND I THINK, THE APPROPRIATION HEARING, SO THEY WILL BE ON NEXT WEEK'S AGENDA, EVEN THOUGH, I MEAN, TWO WEEKS FROM NOW, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT THERE. I THINK THE ONLY OTHER THING I WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO IS IF YOU LOOK UNDER THE INFORMATION SECTION, WE WILL HAVE A CUSTODIAL SUPPORT UPDATE AS REQUESTED BY THE BOARD. THE EXCEPTIONAL LEARNER SUPPORT UPDATED, I AM EXCITED ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN OUR EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS DEPARTMENT, SO MS. AMY WILL BE COMING TO US, AND MAYBE EVEN WITH SOME OF HER NEW ASSISTANT DIRECTORS? OKAY. AND THEN WE WILL ALSO HAVE A TRANSPORTATION UPDATE, SO I DID WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION. AND WITH THAT,
I AM DONE. >> I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE JUST ONE QUICK PLUG HERE, I KNOW ALL OF OUR SPORTS AND ALL OF OUR TEAMS AND ALL OF OUR KIDS ACTIVITIES ARE VERYVALUED , AND I KNOW WE ARE VERY EXCITED FOR ALL THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, BUT I DO WANT TO JUST POINT OUT THAT THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN ROYALS FOOTBALL TEAM IS EIGHT AND ZERO RIGHT NOW, AND THIS
[01:15:02]
FRIDAY NIGHT IS AN EIGHT AND ZERO AGAINST BROWNSBURG EIGHT AND ZERO FOR THE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP AT FRIDAY NIGHT AT HSC, IT'S A HOME GAME, SO ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT HAPPENS TO BE A ROYALS FAN, AND FILL THE STANDS AND ROUTES ON THOSEROYALS. >> SO, NO SNEAKING OUT EARLY FOR FALL BREAK, YOU'VE GOT TO COME TO THE GAME FIRST.
[LAUGHING] ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU. >> OKAY. AND THAT, I LOST MY COMPUTER.
