HE HAS BEEN LAID TO REST BUT HE WAS A DEAR MEMBER OF THE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN AND FISHERS COMMUNITY ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY. SO IF YOU COULD BOW YOUR HEAD AND TAKE A MOMENT TO REMEMBER OFFICER SHANAVAS. THANK YOU. [2. Snapshots of Success] AND WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR SNAPSHOTS OF SUCCESS. EMILY? SORRY, DIRECT TESTIMONY KEGLY. YOU'RE NOT EMILY. >> NO, SORRY TO DISAPPOINT. I'LL HAVE TO DO FOR TONIGHT. SO AS YOU ALL THOUGH WE HAVE SO MANY TALENTED AND DEDICATED STAFF MEMBERS WITHIN THE RANKS OF HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN IS AND EVERY YEAR WE HAVE A COMMITTEE WHO REVIEWS NOMINATIONS FOR BUILDING TEACHERS OF THE YEAR AND AROUND AUDITOR IN EXCELLENCE WINNERS AND LAST MAY AT OUR CLOSING CEREMONIES FOR STAFF WE HAD A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE OUR EXCELLENCE WINNERS BUT TONIGHT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WHO THOSE FOLKS ARE, AND WITH THAT WE HAVE A COUPLE VIDEOS FOR YOU TO WATCH. >> THAT'S OKAY, WE'LL COME BACK TO THAT. >> AUDREY LASH IS SET TO NOT ONLY BE A TALL ENDED EDUCATOR BUT ONE WHO USE HER INNOVATION CAN CREATIVITY EACH DAY. GUARANTEEING HER STUDENTS SOCIAL, I MONTHS EMOTIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. THIS YEAR SHE ENGAGED HER CLASS IN A UNIT OF FAIRY TALES. THE ASSIGNMENT WAS TO READ DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE FAIRY TALE. RESEARCH AND THEN DEFEND THE VILLAIN IN THE STORY GENERATING ALTERNATE CONVENTIONS TO HELP THEM LEARN. SHE BELIEVES THE STUDENT'S STORY AND THE CULTURE MATTERS. AUDREY IS ALWAYS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING FOR HER STUDENTS AND COLLEAGUES ALIKE. SHE POSSESSED A QUIETLY STRENGTH AND HER INTERACTIONS SPEAK FOR HER LEADERSHIP APPROACH. >> DOES IT TELL YOU THE NAMES? >> AUDREY'S LOVE FOR WHAT SHE DOES IS CONTAGIOUS. IN THIS MOST DIFFICULT TIME OF BEING AN EDUCATOR, SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST. >> IT'S EASY TO TAKE FOR GRANTED THE WORK OF OUR CUSTODIAL STAFF. >> WE DO BASIC CLEANING PLUS THE MAINTENANCE OF THE BUILDING ALL DAY LONG. >> WE COME TO RELY ON THEM FOR SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, AND THEY ADAPT AND PERSEVERE. DURBIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAS BEEN BLESSED TO HAVE LONG TIME EMPLOYEE PAULA BLEDSOE. >>> I AM A HEAD CUSTODIAN. I'VE BEEN HF SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 14 YEARS. >> YOU CAN HEAR HER NAME CALLED ON THE RADIOS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. REQUESTING ASSISTANCE WITH MESSES IN THE CLASSROOMS, CAFETERIA AND RESTROOMS. PAULA ALWAYS RESPONDS WITH I'LL [00:05:03] BE RIGHT THERE. SHE IS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP. IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE TIME, SHE'LL MAKE TIME TO DO IT AND COME BACK TO HER DUTIES. PAULA BLEDSOE IS ONE IN A MILLION. >>> SO I WILL INTRODUCE AUDREY AND THEN JANET I THINK IS GOING TO COME UP AND INTRODUCE PAULA BUT AS I MENTIONED OUR PROCESS FOR SELECTING TEACHER OF THE YEAR WE HAVE NOMINEES FROM EACH LEVEL AND THEN THE COMMITTEE SELECTS A WINNER FROM EACH LEVEL AND THEN WE BRING THOSE PEOPLE TOGETHER AND THEN WE SELECT ONE TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR THE ENTIRE DISTRICT, AND I AM HAPPY AND EXCITED TO INTRODUCE OUR 21/22 TEACHER OF THE YEAR AUDREY LASH FROM NEW BRITAIN ELEMENTARY FIRST GRADE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> WELCOME, CONGRATULATIONS. >> THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE AND ARE THOSE YOUR TWO LITTLE ONES? >> THOSE ARE MY TWO LITTLE ONES. >> ADORABLE. MOM'S ON TV. >> YOU CAN TELL IN THE VIDEO HOW DEDICATED -- HI. HOW DEDICATED YOU ARE. >> THANK YOU. THERE ARE SO MANY DESERVING STAFF IN THIS DISTRICT AND IT'S JUST AN HONOR TO FEEL VALUED AND SUPPORTED IN THAT WAY. >> SO QUESTIONED FROM BOARD? >> NEW BRITAIN IS A WONDERFUL PLACE AND I DO WANT TO MEND YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT THERE ARE A LOT OF VERY DESERVING PEOPLE BAA BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU ROSE TO THE TOP. I DO KNOW YOU GET THE AWARD WHICH IS GREAT BUT YOU HAVEWORK TO DO AFTERWARDS. HAVE YOU FILLED OUT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO? >> THERE WAS AEN TON OF PAPERWOK AND IT WAS DUE BY JULY 1 AND I'M DOING GRADUATE SCHOOL STUFF SO IT WAS ALMOST MORE THAN GRADUATE SCHOOL T, BUT GOT ALL THE PAPERWORK DONE AND GOING TO JOIN THE HFC WITH THE GRANTS AND HELPING EVALUATE THOSE. >> YES, WELCOME TO THE FOUNDATION. I KNOW WE HAD MARIA -- NO, FALL CREEK JUNIOR HIGH LIBRARY AND HIS NAME -- KRISTIN DICKSLER, IT'S A WONDERFUL THING THAT YOU'RE TEACHER OF THE YEAR BUT HEY AND YOU GET TO DO ALL THIS EXTRA WORK. BUT THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT, BECAUSE WE REWARD YOU BY BEING SO GREAT BY GIVING YOU MORE WORK. >> THEY KNOW IT'S MAMA'S HOMEWORK OR WORK, SO THEY'RE ALONG FOR THE RIDE APPARENTLY. >> IN THE VIDEO WE SAW SOME OF THE EXAMPLES OR WE SAW AN EXAMPLE OF INNOVATIVE WAYS THAT YOU TEACH KIDS. WHATST YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THAT? >> THE KIDS AND TIMELESS CONCEPTS SO CURIOSITY IS TIMELESS, CULTURE IS TIMELESS, SO THE KIDS ARE TIMELESS BUT CURIOSITY INSIDE THEM IS TIMELESS, THEIR DIVERSITY AND THEIR DIFFERENCES ARE TIMELESS SO IT'S REALLY THEM AND THEN THE THINGS THAT ARE TIMELESS ABOUT KIDS. IT'S NOT THAT COLLEGE AND CAREER READYINESS IT'S WHAT'S TIMELESS ABOUT YOU RIGHT NOW. >> THAT'S AMAZING. >> WELL, CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN CAN THANK YOU FOR REPRESENTING THE DISTRICT SO WELL, AND THANK YOU FOR BRINGING YOUR LITTLE ONES AND YOUR FAMILY, THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. >>> DR. STOKES AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, I AM VERY PROUD TO INTRODUCE TO YOU OUR DISTRICT HONOR THIS EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNER, PAULA BLEDSOE. PAULA HAS BEEN WITH HF SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2008, WAS PROMOTED TO HEAD CUSTODIAN AT DURBIN ELEMENTARY IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019. PAULA'S COWORKERS DESCRIBE HER AS HAVING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE, ALWAYS SMILING F CHEERFUL, KIND AND WILLING TO JUMP IN AND HELP OTHERWISE. THE PRINCIPAL SAID THERE'S NOTHING PAULA WOULDN'T DO FOR HER SCHOOL FROM CLEANING UP HORRENDOUS MESSES TO SITTING DOWN AND HELPING A STUDENT WITH THEIR SCHOOLWORK. SO PAULA LOVES HER KIDDOS AT THE SCHOOL, HER STAFF MINUTES AND THEY'RE EXTREMELY LUCKTY TO HAVE HER. TO PAULA BLEDSOE. [00:10:05] >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I'M VERY HONORED AND BLESSED TO HAVE WON THIS AWARD. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO OUR DISTRICT AND OUR STUDENTS. THE KIDS ARE THE NEXT LEADERS OF THE WORLD, YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THEY THRIVE. >> WELL, WE REALLY APPRECIATE. ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? >> TWO COMMENTS, ONE IS WHEN I STARTED TEACHING, MY MOM, TEACHER ALSO SAID FIRST PERSON YOU NEED TO GET TO KNOW IS THE CUSTODIAN BECAUSE THEY CAN BE THE MOST HELPFUL AND SECOND QUESTION OR SECOND COMMENT, DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DURBIN AND DEAR CREEK. >> ARE TREMENDOUS. DEAR CREEK IS HUGE. THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY. DURBIN WAS SO SMALL AND ACQUAINT AND EASY AND DEAR CREEK IS QUITE LARGE. IT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME GETTING USED TO. >> LITTLE BIT MORE GLASS TO CLEAN I CAN IMAGINE? >> JUST A LITTLE. ALL THE FINGERPRINTS ALL DAY LONG. >> I'M SURE THOSE CHILDREN WHO REMEMBER YOU FROM DURBIN WERE GLAD TO SEE YOU WHEN SCHOOL STARTED. >> YES, THEY WERE AND I HAVE THEM ALL SAY IT ALL DAY LONG. THEY'RE VERY SWEET FORTUNATELY I LOVE TO BE AROUND ALL THE KIDS. THEY'RE AMAZING. >> CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO AND THE VIDEO SPEAKS FOR EARTH AND HEARING ALL THE WONDERFUL COMMENTS, SO CRAG CONGRATULATIONS. >> THANK YOU. [3. Public Comment] MOVING ON TO OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM 3.01, PUBLIC COMMENT, THIS IS THE TIME WHERE WE WOULD TAKE PUBLIC COMMENT ON THINGS ON OUR AGENDA, I WOULD JUST NOTE EACH SPEAKER HAS THREE MINUTES TO SPEAK. WE HAVE THE TIMER WITH THE GREEN YELLOW AS A WARNING AND WHEN IT TURNS RED YOUR TIME IS UP. JUST REMIND THE PUBLIC THE PURPOSE OF PUBLIC COMMENT IS TO GIVE BOARD MEMBERS AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE, NOT TO ENGAGE IN DEBATE. THE BOARD WILL NOT TOLERATE IN APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE OR STATEMENTS THAT ARE THREATENING, ILLEGAL, VULGAR, DEFAMATORY OR ATTACKS AGAINST ANY SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL. COMMENTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARD THE BOARD AS A WHOLE AND NOT AN INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBER. WITH THAT WE HAVE TWO SPEAKERS, OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS CHAD CARMICHAEL. >> HELLO. I BEGAN TO ATTEND HEPL LIBRARY BOARD MEETINGS NEAR THE END OF LAST YEAR WHEN I LEARNED THE BOOK DRAWN TO SEX BY ERICA BOWEN WAS SHELFED IN THE LIBRARY FOR REMEMBER-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN. THIS BOOK WAS DESCRIBED IN THE CATALOG AS A PORNOGRAPHIC COMIC BOOK SO IT WAS NEVER IN DISPUTE THAT THAT THE BOOK WAS PORNOGRAPHY IN THE SECTION FOR KIDS AS YOUNG AS 11. AFTER I POINTED THIS OUT HEPL RESEVERALLED THE BOOK THIS WILL ADULT SECTION AND THEY ADMITTED THAT IT WAS NEVER SHELFED APPROPRIATELY IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT NO ONE WAS HELD ACCOUNTABLE. IMAGINE A TEACHER LET'S SAY RIVER SIDE INTERMEDIATE SCREENED SOME HARD CORE PORNOGRAPHY TO A CLASS AND THEN SAID OOPS THAT WAS A MISTAKE, WOULD WOE JUST DROP THE ISSUE? NO WAY WE WOULD NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW IT HAPPENED, WHAT THE TEACHER HAD BEEN THINKING AND WE WOULD WANT THEM TO PUBLICLY IDENTIFY THE STEPS TO AVOID THE PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. END UP OF THAT HAPPENED IN THIS CASE: I REPEATEDLY ASKED THE BOARD TO HOLD SOMEONE ACCOUNTABLE AND THEY CHOSE NOT TO DO SO. AFTER THIS AFFAIR I FOUND ANOTHER PORNOGRAPHIC BOOK IN THE KIDS SECTION. IT ENCOURAGING LITTLE CHILDREN TO GO ONLINE AND TALK TO STRANGERS ABOUT KINK, CONTRARY [00:15:03] TO THE ADVISE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. THE THE DIRECTOR RESPONDED TO MY CONCERN SAYING THAT IN HER JUDGMENT THE BOOK WAS APPROPRIATE FOR 11 CRITERIAS. A MOTION WAS MADE TO REMOVE THE BOOK BUT IT WAS NOT SECONDED. THE BOOK WAS CONSEQUENTLY MOVED BUT MS. WATER MAN CLAIMS THAT WAS A COINCIDENCE, SHE HAPPENED TO DECIDE THE MOVE THE WHOLE YOUTH NONFICTION COLLECTION TO THE ADULT SECTION DUE TO ITS SIZE SO SHE MOVED THE BOOK I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BUT NEVER CHAINED HER JUDGMENT THAT IT WAS FINE FOR LITTLE KIDS. BRIAN MEYER HAS NEVER ANXIOUSED A QUESTION I PUT TO HIM. FINALLY I HAVE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE BOARD THE THELY LIBRARY HAS BEEN PROMOTING FREE BOOKS FOR KIDS THAT DISCUSS POWER OF ATTORNEY AND SIMILAR MATURE SEXUAL TOPICS, AND AGAIN I DON'T THINK I'M GOING TO DESCRIBE IT. ONE OF THE BOOKS PROMOTES SEXUALIZED CROSS DRESSING AND ONE BOOK CONTAINS 48 OCCURRENCES OF THE F-WORD FOR 11-YEAR-OLDS. I'VE REPEATEDLY ASKED THE LIBRARY TO REQUIRE PARENTAL PERMISSION. IN SHORT THE LIBRARY IS OFF THE RAILS. IT'S YOUR JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR RIVER IS NOT JEOPARDIZING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE WITH HIS CONDUCT. GIVEN MY EXAMPLES I FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO ACT. >> AND OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS AMBER CARMICHAEL. >> THANK YOU. I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU A BIT MORE DETAIL ABOUT THE CHILDREN'S BOOK CLUB THAT WOULD LIBRARY SPONSORS. ONE BOOK CHOSEN FOR THE CLUB WAS FLAMER. HERE WE HAVE A BOOK THAT MANAGES TO GET SEVEN EXPLETIVES ON A SINGLE PAGE INCLUDING THREE USES OF THE F-WORD AND ANOTHER PAGE SHOWS AN IMAGE OF A YOUNG BOY ENGAGING IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY . . . [4. Consent Agenda] >>> OKAY, THAT WAS OUR LAST SPEAKER SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT AGENDA. WE HAVE TRADITIONALLY THESE ARE JUST PRETTY MUNDANE ITEMS INCLUDING BOARD MINUTES, STAFF REPORTS, CLAIMS AND PAYROLLS THAT THE BOARD HAS TO APPROVE AT EACH MEETING. I HAVE HAD A REQUEST TO SEPARATE THEM OUT SO I WILL HONOR THAT REQUEST. SO I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE 4.01 BOARD MINUTES. >> I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THEM. >> SECONDS. >> HAVING A FIRST AND SECOND ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENT? I WOULD ASK JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE. >> PASSES 7-0. AND THE NEXT ITEM IS 4.02 CERTIFIED STAFF REPORTS. >> I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE SUPPORT STAFF REPORTS AS PRESENTED. >> SECOND. >> I HAVE A FIRST RESPONDERS FIRST AND SECOND, ANY QUESTION OR COMMENT? HEARING NONE I WOULD ASK JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE. AND NEXT UP IS 4.03 CLAIMS PARABLES, 403(B) AND 457 SALARY REDUCTION AGREEMENTS. ENTERTAIN A MOTION. >> MAY AS WELL MAKE I WOULD THREE FOR THREE, ENTERTAIN A [00:20:01] MOTION TO APPROVE 4.03 CLAIMS PAYROLLS 403(B) AND 457 SALARY REDUCTION AGREEMENTS AS PRESENTED. >> SECOND. >> I HAVE A FIRST AND SECOND, ANY QUESTION OR COMMENT? HEARING NONE I WOULD ASK JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE. >> MOTION PASSES 5-2. >> THANK YOU MOVING ON TO INFORMATION ITEMS. OH, I APOLOGIZE, I DO THIS EVERY MEETING AND I'M SO SORRY. [5. Information Items] [00:30:49] SO NEXT UP ON INFORMATION ITEMS ARE FIRST ITEM TONIGHT IS 5.01, WE HAVE OUR HAMILTON EAST PUBLIC LIBRARY RIVER HERE TO GIVE AN UPDATE AND A REPORT. >> GOOD EVENING. >> THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. IT'S BEEN A YEAR SO WE APPRECIATE YOU COMING BACK TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE LIBRARY. >> I HAVE A BRIEF POWER POINT AND THEN I'LL OPEN IT UP TO QUESTIONSES. THIS IS JUST THE VIEW OF THE NOBLESVILLE LIBRARY AND THE DOWNTOWN FISHERS LIBRARY WHICH IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD. SOME RECENT AND UPCOMING LIBRARY HIGHLIGHTS, CONSTRUCTION UPDATE AND ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE. KIND OF BY THE NUMBERS OUR OPERATING BUDGET NINE AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS, TAX RATE, BOND RATE I'M SURE IT DOESN'T INTEREST MOST PEOPLE HERE BUT I'M SURE YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT A LOT. IN 2021 WE HAD ALMOST 300 -- ALMOST 400,000 VISITORS GO THROUGH THE BUILDINGS, OUR 2021 CIRCULATION OVER 2 MILLION. WE HAVE TWO LOCATIONS ONE IN NOBLESVILLE AND ONE IN DOWNTOWN FISHERS. SQUARE FOOTAGE ROUGHLY OVER 200,000. WE'RE NOT GOING A LOT OF ADDITIONAL ADDITION WORK, A LOT OF WORK ON THE SITE. WE HAVE 342,000 ITEMS IN THE LIBRARY SO THERE'S A LOT OF BOOKS AND VIDEOS IN THERE. WE ARE KIND OF GETTING BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS OF VISITORS AND THAT TYPE OF THING, SO WE'RE GETTING BACK UP TO SPEED ON ALL OF THAT SO THINGS ARE STARTING TO GET BACK TO PRE-P.M. LEVEL: ONE OF THE THINGS WE DO IS THE YOU'RE SERVICES PROGRAM. EARLY LITERACY PROGRAMS, READING PROGRAMS EACH MONTH WE HAVE ROUGHLY 57 PROGRAMS, 1700 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE EVERY MONTH. SOME OF THE RECENT HIGHLIGHTS SUMMER READING PROGRAM WE HAD 5700 PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN THAT AND THE RECENT HARRY POTTER DAY WHICH IS A BIG THING. PEOPLE COME DRESSED UP AT THE LIBRARY SO YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THE PICTURES. I HAVE A LOT OF SERVICE PROGRAMS, ESCAPE ROOMS, BOOK CLUBS, CRAFT PROGRAMS, COLLEGE PANDEMIC. WE TRY TO GET THE KIDS IN BUILDING AND GET THEM USES TO COMING TO THE LIBRARY AND THERE AGAIN THE TEEN SERVICES ARE A LITTLE SMALLER GROUPS AND MORE INTIMATE EXPERIENCES FOR THOSE TEEN GROUPS. IGNITE WHEN I WAS FIRST JOINING THE BOARD REALLY THAT AREA DOWNSTAIRS WAS UNDERUSED AND A LOT OF ARTISTS AND CREATIVE INDIVIDUALS, WE HAVE AN ARTIST IN REGISTERS, THAT PICTURE IS FROM A TYPICAL DAY IN MAKER SPACE. THE PEOPLE DRESSED IN YELLOW ARE THERE WITH A GROUP FOR EMBRACING ABILITIES CAMP THAT WE HAD OVER THE SUMMER. ALSO ON THE IGNITE MAKER SPACE PROGRAM THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF THE -- THE NEXT SLIDE, THIS IS OUR MAIN PROGRAMS, THE KIT LIBRARY, WHERE PEOPLE CAN COME IN AND GRAB A KIT AND DO A PAGING AND TAKE IT WITH THEM HOME. FAB LIBRARY, COMMUNITY EQUIPMENT, WE HAVE A LOT OF DIGITAL MEDIA LAB, AV STUDIO, WE HAVE 3-D PRINTERS AND PEOPLE CAN COME IN AND DO PROGRAMS, THE MAKER IN RESIDENCE STUDIO AND OPEN TABLESES FOR CREATING STUFF IN THE IGNITE MAKER SPACE. SOME OF THE UPCOMING PROGRAMS IN IGNITE THE THE MAKER IN REGISTERS, ABOUT EVERY QUARTER WE GET NEW ARTIST IN RESIDENCE, OUR NEXT ONE IS ARTIST AND WE'RER MEGAN BENSON, SHE'LL BE THERE FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER AND SHE PLANS TO USE HER TIME PUTTING TOGETHER ART AND SHARING IT WITH THE COMMUNITY AND THEN SHE TEACHES A [00:35:01] RANGE OF CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS IN THE MAKER SPACE PROGRAM. ALSO SOME UPCOMING PROGRAMS, BOOKS BUILD BRIDGES, WE TYPICALLY BRING IN AUTHORS, THEY COME IN, WE HAVE THEIR BOOK HIGHLIGHTED DURING THAT TIME FRAME, THEN THEY COME AND DO SOME PROGRAMS FOR US VIRTUALLY OR YOU CAN SIGN UP TO DO PROGRAMS ONLINE AND COME IN PERSON. THIS YEAR WE HAVE KELLY YANG WITH THE FRONT DESK AND JAMIE FORD WITH HIS BOOK HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET SO HE'LL BE ON-SITE 9/24 AND 10/1. CONSTRUCTION UPDATE, I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH SOME CONSTRUCTION ON YOUR OWN HERE. BOTH CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WE'RE DONSBACH TWO PHASES AT EACH BEING, WE'RE CURRENTLY IN PHASE ONE, REDESIGNING ENTRANCES, APARTMENTS, I'M SURE IF YOU'VE DRIVEN BY YOU NOTICED THAT, EXTERIOR PUBLIC SPACES. NOBLESVILLE THAT WILL END AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND FISHERS WILL BE NEXT SPRING. NOBLESVILLE WE'LL BE REDOING THE MAIN ENTRANCE AND AT FISHERS THERE WILL BE MORE OF A -- WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN ARTS AREA AND WE'RE WORKING WITH THE NICKEL PLAIT ARTS PROGRAM. WE HAVE SOME EXPERIENCED WORKER AND MATERIAL SHORTAGES, I'M SURE YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH THAT AND HEARD ABOUT THAT DURING YOUR CONSTRUCTION. PHASE TWO AT FISHERS MOSTLY INTERIOR, JUST CARPET, FURNITURE, NOT ONLIESVILLE THERE AGAIN SAME THING INDIANA INTERIOR CARPET AND MAJOR REDESIGN AND A MAJOR EXPANSION OF THE INDIANA ROOM WHERE THEY HAVE THE INDIANA ROOM. NEXT SLIDE GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT THE NEW NOBLESVILLE ENTRANCE WILL LOOK LIKE. WE HAVE EXPAND IDED IT UP. THERE USED TO BE A COLUMN IN FRONT OF YOU AND IT WILL BE OPENED UP TO THE UPSTAIRS INDIANA ROOM SPACE SO IT'S BE PRETTY KITING WHEN THAT GETS DONE. AND THEN THE ENTRANCE AT FISH TERSE THAT'S THE NEW SOUTH ENTRANCE THAT YOU'LL SEE AS YOU TURN IN THERE AND THE OTHER SIDE WILL BE MORE OF AN EMPLOYEE ENTRANCE AND PEDESTRIAN ENTRANCE. AS I SAID BEFORE PART OF THE INDIANA ROOM A LOT OF EXCITING THINGS GOING ON THERE. WE ARE MAINTAINING THE OLD INDIANA HISTORY AND THE GENEALOGY WHICH IS A VERY WIG THING IN THE BIG THING. WE'RE BRINGING IN A LOT OF DIGITAL LAB STUFF, INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE, THAT TYPE OF THING FOR STUDENTS AND CREATE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR FAMILIES. KIM RENDERINGS, WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING WITH A SPECIALTY COMPANY THAT PUTS THESE SPACES TOGETHER SO ALL THAT WILL BE PART OF PHASE TWO, THAT'S STILL IN EARLY DESIGN AND WILL BE COMING UP AT A LATER DAY IN THE INDIANA ROOM. AND THEY'RE JUST ANOTHER RENDERING OF THE PROPOSED EXHIBIT SPACE. AND THEN I I GUESS I'LL OPEN ITP FOR QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AT THE HAMILTON EAST PUBLIC LIBRARY. >> THANK YOU FOR THAT DETAILED UPDATE. I'M EXCITED FOR THAT NEW ENTRANCE. IT'S TIGHT PARTNERING ON THE CURRENT SIDE. >> I KNOW THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF -- BUT THAT WAS OUR NUMBER ONE ISSUE IN DOWNTOWN FISHERS IF YOU'RE EVER DOWN THERE. >> IT'S HARD IF IT'S FULL -- >> ESPECIALLY IF THERE'S AN EVENT AND WE HAVE THE LIBRARY OPEN AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT. WE HAVE TO CLOSE IT OCCASIONALLY. NEXT SATURDAY WE HAVE THE WOLF 5K SO WE'LL BE OPENING UP LATE. >> IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE MAKER SPACE IT IS INCREDIBLE. MY KIDS LOVE IT IT'S THE PERFECT RAINY DAY WEEKEND ACTIVITY. THEY CAN MAKE THEIR OWN CLAY POT AND TAKE IT HOME AND THE ROBOTS. YOU GUY HAVE DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB WITH THAT. >>> THANK YOU. >>> JUST FOR OUR NOBLESVILLE FRIENDS, ARE THE FISH TANKS STAYING IN NOBLESVILLE? >> NO. >> OH NO! >> THERE IS A NEW BACK ENTRY DOWNSTAIRS FOR THE YOUTH PROGRAMS SO THERE'S AN OUTDOOR PLAZA DOWN THERE. WE'RE STILL FORTUNING THINGS UP BACK THERE. >> JUST LOVED THAT WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE. >> IT'S A LOT OF WORK. >> I IMAGINE SO, THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. >> I USE THE LIBRARY SERVICES A LOT MOSTLY DIGITAL AND I WANT TO MEND -- IT TAKES ME FOREVER TO READ A BOOK, I DON'T SIT DOWN AND READ BECAUSE I'M DOING OTHER THINGS BUT ONE THING IS IT [00:40:04] AUTOMATICALLY RENEWS MY BOOK. AND USUALLY I'LL GET A THING AND I HAVE TO LOG IN AND DO IT. >> I WOULD TAKE CREDIT FOR THAT BUT I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. >> AND I ECHO WHAT JANET SAID ASSAULT AND BATTERY ABOUT THAT IGNITE MAKER SPACE, I HAVE TWO FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS LIVING WIND GUSTS AND WE WENT TO THE FISHERS FARMERS MARKET AND WE THOUGHT WE COULD STOP BY AND THE STAFF IN THERE, THEY TOOK US ON A TOUR AND WE SAW PROBABLY A 14-YEAR-OLD MAKING A MUG AND DESIGNING SOMETHING TO BE IMPRINTED ON IT AND -- AMAZING. >> THEY HAVE A LOT OF NEAT THINGS GOING ON THERE. >> ANY CHANCE THAT YOU WILL BE BUILDING A THIRD LOCATION, MAYBE IN THE. >> WE ACTUALLY HAD SOME PROPERTY IN THE FAR WEST SIDE OF THE DISTRICT BUT I KNOW THERE IS SOME FUTURE STRATEGIC PLANNING PROBABLY SEVERAL YEARS DOWN THE LINE OF SOMETHING TO THE EAST, YES. >> THANK YOU. AND I DID WANT TO SAY I WAS THRILLED WHEN I SAW THE TWEET ABOUT THE TWO AUTHORS COMING AND I ACTUALLY READ BOTH OF THOSE BOOKS, AND ONE WAS AN AP U.S. HISTORY ASSIGNMENT FOR MY OLDEST STEPSON AND I READ THAT. AND FRONT DESK IS I KNOW A LOT OF TEACHERS WERE PROMOTED THAT OR TALKING ABOUT READING IT WITH THEIR CLASS SO I HOPE OUR TEACHERS WHO READ THAT WITH THEIR KIDS WILL PROMOTE THAT BECAUSE THAT'S AMAZING. AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE IN PERSON. >> YEAH YOU NEED TO REGISTER AND YOU CAN ALSO DO A VIRTUAL. >> AWESOME. THANK YOU. >> I JUST WANT TO SAY FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTATION AND THE POWERPOINT AND THE MAKER SPACE IS PRETTY AWESOME. SO I'M A REAL ESTATE AGENT SO I'M INTERESTED IN THE REAL ESTATE PART OF THINGS AND I UNDERSTAND THAT THE LIBRARY DOES HAVE TWO PARTICLES OF LAND AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF SELLING A PARCEL. DO YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW WHAT YOUR ANTICIPATED REVENUE IS FOR THAT PROPERTY AND WHAT YOU GUYS ARE LOOKING FOR THE PROJECTED PLAN FOR THAT PROPERTY? >> THAT WAS BOUGHT BEFORE MY TIME THERE BUT I KNOW -- I THINK -- YOU KNOW, WE'RE DEFINITELY MAKING SOME MONEY ON THE PROPERTY. THAT'S ONE REASON WE'RE SELLING IT AND NOT JUST HOLDING IT SO THERE WILL BE SOME -- WHAT WE PAY WE'LL BE GETTING MORE MONEY THAN THAT. >> THANK YOU. AND THEN I HAVE JUST A COUPLE OTHER QUESTIONS SO ANY KIDS LOVE THE LIBRARY. GOING TO THE LIBRARY FOR YEARS AND MY DAUGHTER STUDIED ON-SITE THERE FOR HER JUNIOR AND SENIOR AREAS AND SHE'S LOVED IT BUT I KNOW MY OTHER CHILD AND I'LL COME DOWN TO MY YOUNGEST PROBABLY USES HIS CELL PHONE AND LAPTOP MORE AND WE KNOW THAT TABLETS ARE ACCESS FOR THEIR LIBRARY RESOURCES SO I WAS WONDERING IN 2020 WE USED THE LIBRARY USED SOME CARES ACT EMERGENCY CONNECTIVITY FUNDS TO EXPAND OFF CAMPUS ACCESS FOR STUDENTS -- I THINK THEY HAD 11 HOTSPOTS AND IT WAS REPORTED THAT THEY WERE PURSUING MORE OF A 7 BILLION-DOLLAR FEDERAL FUNDING. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MORE MONEY YOU RECEIVED? >> I CAN CHECK AND AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING AND SEND A NOTE BACK TO JULIE. >> I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE USING THAT FOR BECAUSE I KNEW THIS WERE GOING TO DO SOMETHING AND THAT'S QUITE A BIT OF FUNDS SO I WOULD BE CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW THAT'S BEING USED TO HELP OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AND THINGS IN THE DISTRICT. AND THEN I ALSO HEARD THAT YOU ARE SLATED OR BEEN NOMINATED TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD, AND AS PRESIDENT I WANTED TO ASK WHAT SOME OF YOUR VISION WILL BE TO EBBING UP AND DOWN THE COLLABORATION AND OUTREACH ESPECIALLY TO THE SCHOOLS, AND YOU KNOW, WHAT -- I HEARD ABOUT MAYBE BOOKMOBILE COMING BACK AND HEARD WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS ARE ON THAT. >> THAT'S ONE THING WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS EXPAND AS MUCH AS WE CAN. I KNOW WE DO A LOT OF INTERACTION WITH THE SCHOOL CORMS BOTH WITH HFC AND NOBLESVILLE. WE HAVE APPOINTEES FROM POST SCATTERED STORMSES AND FROM THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER, COUNTY COUNCIL. >>> AND I KNOW THERE'S -- I THINK THERE WAS TALK OF HAVING A REVISED COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY. >> WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THAT RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE A COUPLE OF UPCOMING MEETINGS AND THERE'S BEEN SEVERAL MEETINGS UP TO NOW. SO THAT IS AN ONGOING PROCESS. >> SO JUST CURIOUS WHAT YOUR STANCE IS AND YOUR THOUGHTSES ARE IN REVISING THE CURRENT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY AND IF THERE SHOULD BE ANY GUARDRAILS ON PREVENTING OBSCENE MATERIALS AND BOOKS FROM BEING [00:45:02] CONSIDERED AND ACQUIRED FOR CHILDREN AND TEEN MAYBE AT THE YOUNGER LEVELS. >> WE HAVE MOVED SOME BOOKS AROUND AND THERE'S A PROCESS OF RECONSIDERATION IF YOU HAVE A BOOK YOU DON'T FEEL IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE WE'RE TRYING THE STAY IN FRONT OF ALL THAT, AND BASICALLY KEEP THE COLLECTION POLICY CURRENT AND ALSO THERE'S 180,000 PEOPLE I THINK UNTIL FOUR TOWNSHIP THAT WE REPRESENT SO WE'RE TRYING TO REPRESENT EVERYBODY. >> I EVER SEVERAL MORE BUT I CAN ASK THEM LATER. >> NO PROBLEM, YOU CAN E-MAIL THEM TO ME. >> ONE OF THEM IS THE CONSTRUCTION, SO I'M EXCITED TO SEE THE POWERPOINT AND SEE ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE CHANGING AND HOW IT'S PROGRESSING AND WITH VARIOUS PROJECTS, ARE ANY OF THEM A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE REPORT TO YOU OR DO YOU OVERSEE ANY OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AND BY CHANCE DO YOU KNOW IF THEY'RE UNDERBUDGET OR ON TIME? >> RIGHT NOW WE'RE UNDERBUDGET BUT THE TIME HAS GROWN THAT YOU'VE HAD AS FAR AS DELAY MANPOWER AND WORKERS AND WE HAD A COUPLE UNFORESEENS AT FISHERS LIBRARY. SO BUT WE'RE LOOKING TO WRAP THEM UP AND START NEXT PHASE. >> THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU FOR COMING AND JOINING US AND GIVING US THE UPDATE AND I APPRECIATE THE WORK YOU'RE DOING AT THE LIBRARY. >> IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION E-MAIL ME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >> HAVE A GOOD NIGHT, THANK YOU. >> WE'LL MOVE TON ITEM 5.02 PRESENTATION ON THE THREE E GRANT, CIESC. >>> GOOD EVENING. >> GOOD EVENING. BOARD THANK YOU, DR. STOKES, THANK YOU. MY NAME IS ANDY MELON, I'M THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTRAL INDIANA EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER. THIS IS DR. KIMBERLY FIVER AND SHE'S GOING TO BE THE PERSON THAT'S GOING TO BE SPEARHEADING THIS PROJECT CALLED THE THREE E GRANT. AND JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BACKGROUND FOR ME PERSONALLY I'VE BEEN IN EDUCATION FOR OVER 40 YEARS; I WAS THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS IN THREE DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES, I SPENT A YEAR AS THE CHIEF INNOVATION OFFICER FOR EDUCATION. MANY PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT A SERVICE CENTER DOES AND I KNOW THAT'S NOT THE PURPOSE OF TONIGHT BUT I DO WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WE'RE PROUD TO HAVE YOU AS A MEMBER. WE PROVIDE ACADEMIC AND OPERATIONAL SERVICES TO EDUCATORS AND STUDENT ACROSS THE MET POT END METROPOLITAN INDIANAPOLIS. WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THE SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED, SCHOOL FOR THE DEATH AND ALSO SOUTH DAKOTA SPECIAL SERVICES SO WE'RE PROUD OF OUR MEMBERSHIP AND APPRECIATE YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN THE CENTER. THE THREE E GRANT, HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN WILL BE ONE OF SEVEN SCHOOL SYSTEMS FROM AROUND THE STATE, JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND, WHEN I WAS A STUDENT IN SOUTHERN INDIANA I HAD THIS ANDREW DREAME WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE BUILT A CULTURE THAT FOCUSED ON STUDENTS DEVELOPED STRONG SENSE OF CHARACTER, SKILLS; SUCCESS SKILLS THAT WOULD BE EMBEDDED IN OUR STUDENTS FROM THE BEGINNING AND WHEN THEY GRADUATED THEY WERE WELL PREPARED FOR ANY POSTSECONDARY OPTION OR OPPORTUNITY THAT THEY WANTED TO ACHIEVE. WE ALSO FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT WE GAVE THEM EXPERIENCES TO MATCH THEIR SKILLS AND THEIR INTERESTS AND THEIR PASS. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE AS MUCH INFORMATION PRIOR TO GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL THAT THEY POSSIBLY COULD HAVE SO THEY COULD MAKE THAT GOOD POST SECONDARY CHOICE. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN OF MY OWN, ONE WENT RIGHT INTO THE WORKFORCE, HE WORKS IN THE I.T. FIELD, 19 YEARS OLD HE WAS. ENOUGH TO BUY HIS OWN CONDOMINIUM. MY DAUGHTER IS A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE DEGREE AND MY SON IS IN THE NAVY. AND SO I HAVE THREE CHILDREN THAT ALL CHOSE BASED UPON THEIR PASSIONS AND SKILLS AND INTERESTS TO FOLLOW THEIR PATH AND ALL THREE ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL, SO I PAINT THAT PICTURE FOR YOU TO HELP YOU DETERMINE THE WHY I FELT IT WAS CRITICAL THAT WE BRING THIS WORK TO A BROADER AUDIENCE AROUND OUR STATE. THE SEVEN DISTRICTS ARE FORT WAYNE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, WHITLEY COUNTY CONTINUED SCHOOLS IN COLUMBIA CITY, WAITSVILLE AND OF COURSE HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN, [00:50:03] HAMILTON SHAKER HEIGHTS, WARREN TOWNSHIP AND MILL CREEK. THE SEVEN DISTRICTS WE'RE PROUD OF THE DIVERSION DEMOGRAPHICS BECAUSE THAT PROGRAM WILL BE SUCCESSFUL IN EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, SO IN GREATER CLARK WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE A STEERING COMMITTEE OF 180 INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT DROVE THIS SO THIS WAS TRULY A COMMUNITY WIDE EFFORT. WE HAD OVER 400 BUSINESS PARTNERS AND WE HAD TREMENDOUS RESULTS WITH STUDENTS, 99 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS LEFT HIGH SCHOOL MAKING A VERY MANY OFFED POST-SECONDARY CHOICE, WE TRACK THAT DATA. SO WE SEE THAT VISION COMING TO A BROADER BASE AND THAT'S WHEN THE THREE E GRANT CAME AVAILABLE WE GREASESSIVELY PURSUED IT BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT'S A WAY TO TRANSFORM ANYTHING ELSE A RELEVANT AND MEANINGFUL WAY FOR OUR STUDENTS WHICH IS WHY WE EXIST AND I'VE SEEN THE RESULTS. THIS GOES BEYOND THEORY, THIS IS VERY PRACTICAL. WE HAVE PUT IT IN PLACE AND WE HAVE HAD POSITIVE METRICS AS A RESULT. SO I WOULD LIKE TO TURN I WOULD OVER TO DR. FIVER BECAUSE DR. FIVER WORKED WITH ME ASS A TENANT ASSISTANT STUDENT AND I'M NOT ALWAYS THE SMARTEST GRAPE IN THE BUNCH BUT I WAS SMART ENOUGH TO HIRE HER TO LEAD IN PROGRAM. SO THEIR LOSS IS OUR DEFINITE GAIN, SO I'LL TURN IT OVER TO HER. >> I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIRST OF ALL TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I AM TO BE ABLE TO PARTNER WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP TEAM TO TAKE US THROUGH THE PROCESS THAT WE HAVE HERE THROUGH THIS GRANT OPPORTUNITY. IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE COMMUNITY TO BE ABLE TO WORK BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS TO TALK ABOUT WHAT'S THE LAY OF THE LAND RIGHT NOW, WHAT'S THE ECONOMY SAY? WHAT'S THE TALENT PIPELINE SAY. WHERE ARE WE FULL, AND WHAT CAN WE DO TO LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN DO K THROUGH 12 TO START PRO-ACTIVELY LOOKING AT WHAT THOSE STUDENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO STAY HERE AT HOME, WHEN THEY GRADUATE OR TO RETURN HOME IF THEY ENLIST OR TO GO TO A FOUR YEAR SCHOOL OUTSIDE THE AREA. IVES GOING TO TELL YOUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR -- IS SHE STILL HERE? NO, SHE LEFT. SHE THOUGHT SHE WASN'T DOING COLLEGE AND CAREERS, LAWYER, SHE WAS HELPING THEM BE A LAWYER. I'M LIKE I WANT HER TO STAY HERE AND HEAR THIS BUT THAT'S A LITTLE BIT A PART OF LOOKING AT WHAT WE CAN DO TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO CAREERS SIMPLY. JUST CREATIVELY TO SEE WHAT'S NEEDED HERE IN HAMILTON COUNTY. SO I WOULD LIKE TO FAST FORWARD AND TALK ABOUT THE THREE E GRANT AND THE THREE E GRANT STANDS FOR EXPLORE ENGAGE AND EXPERIENCE. AND NOW THE IDOE IS WANTING US TO SET OUR VISION TOWARD MAKING SURE -- JUST LIKE DR. MELON'S STORY, A CHILD GOING INTO EMPLOYMENT, ENROLLMENT AND COLLEGE OR A FOUR YEAR INSTITUTION AND THEN ENLISTMENT. SO THE GRANT IS INTENDED TO HELP SCHOOL DISTRICTS BE ABLE TO REIMAGINE AND ENVISION WHAT HIGH SCHOOLS CAN NOW LOOK LIKE AND WHAT THEIR K-12 DISTRICTS CAN LOOK LIKE TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THOSE THINGS. LET'S GO AHEAD AND I'LL FAST FORWARD A LITTLE BIT AND LET'S GET TO THE ROAD MAP. THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING TOGETHER. LET'S KEEP GOING. YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A ROAD REALLY SOON. THERE WE GO. FORD NEXT GENERATION LEARNING AN ORGANIZATION KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND ALSO THE U.K., HAS PARTNER ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THEY WERE THE COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION THAT WE PARTNERED WITH AT GREATER PAISLEY PARK TO BE ABLE TO HIGH PRESSURE FACILITATE US THROUGH THE PROCESS. AND IT IS A FACILITATION. IT'S A FACILITATION ALLOWING YOUR DISTRICT TO BE ABLE TO COME TOGETHER WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND BE ABLE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT TALENT PIPELINE AND WHAT WE CAN DO HERE WITH THE RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER FOR OUR KIDS. SO THE GRANT IS GOING TO HELP HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN AND THE OTHER SIX SCHOOL DISTRICTS WORK THROUGH THE FIRST THREE PHASES ON THIS ROAD MAPPING TO. SO THE FIRST PHASE AND I'M YOUR LEAD FOR THIS SO I'LL WORK DIRECTLY WITH YOU AND WE'LL STILL HAVE COACHES FOR THE FORD NEXT GENERATION LEARNING AND THEY'VE BEEN AN ORGANIZATION FOR 20 YEARS AND AS YOU KNOW HENRY FORD WAS A HUGE EDUCATIONAL AVENUE CATTLE AND THAT'S HOW THIS WAS ESTABLISHED. [00:55:03] SO LET'S GOO WITH EXPLORE AND IN THE EXPLORE PHASE WE ALLOW DISTRICTS TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A STUDY TEAM TO SEE A DISTRICT THAT HAS MADE IT TO PHASE FIVE IN A REALLY REIMAGINING JUST HOW WE CAN TRANSFORM HIGH SCHOOLS, MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO BETTER PREPARE OUR STUDENTS FOR THE REGION AND THE AREA IN WHICH WE LIVE. SO WE'RE GOING TO GO TO AKRON OHIO AND DO THE AKRON INA VISIT TO SEE WHAT THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH. WHILE WE'RE THERE WE'LL HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT THINGS ARE GOING ON HERE AND WHAT WEED WE'D I'D LIKE TO LEARN AND THERE'S OTHER DISTRICT THAT WILL BE THERE TOO AND A CHANCE TO NETWORK TO SEE WHAT THOSE DISTRICTS ARE DOING, THEY'RE ALSO COMMUNITIES OF THE FORD COMPANY. AFTER THAT WE WILL HAVE A CHANCE FOR THE COACHES FROM FORD AND MYSELF TO COME ON CAMPUS, BE ABLE TO SPEND FEE DAYS HERE AND GET TO KNOW THE DISTRICT BECAUSE IF WE'RE GOING TO FACILITATE AND BE THAT GUIDE ON THE SIDE WE HAVE TO KNOW THE DISTRICT, WE HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOUR PASSIONS ARE AND WHAT YOU'RE WANTED TO DO AND WHAT YOU ASPIRE TO HAVE HAPPEN HERE. THEN WE MOVE INTO PHASE TWO AND IN PHASE TWO WE GET A CHANCE FOR ALL YOUR STAKEHOLDERS, THAT GROUP OF ABOUT 100 PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER AND DECIDE WHAT TO WE WANT TO ENVISION THAT PROFILE OF A GRADUATE TO BE AND IF YOU'VE DONE THAT WORK WE TAKE WHAT IT IS AND WE BRING IT BACK TOE LIFE AND THAT BECOMES YOUR NORTH STAR AND NOT JUST YOUR NORTH STAR FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL BUT THE NORTH STAR FOR THE ENTIRE DISTRICT. AND THEN WE MOVE TO PHASE 33 WITH THAT NORTH STAR AND THEN WE WORK INTO THAT SAME GROUP COMING BACK TOGETHER AND MAKING A PLAN FOR HOW WE'RE GOING TO TAKE ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU'RE DOING AND ENHANCE THEM AND MOVE THEM FORWARD TO LOOK AT THAT BIGGER PICTURE FOR AS WE SAID THIS AREA AND THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT DATA THAT TALL TENT PIPE DEADLINE AND HOW THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION AND ALL PARTNER TOGETHER TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN. IT'S A SUPER EXCITING PIECE. SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ALREADY HAVE A LIVE AND THRIVING STRATEGIC PLAN CHOOSE TO EMBED THAT PLAN WITHIN THIS BIGGER MASTER PLANNING PROCESS AND THOSE THAT DON'T HAVE ONE SOMETIMES MAKE THIS THAT PIECE AND BRING THAT BACK THE LIFE AGAIN. BUT THIS GRANT AFFORDS YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE FUNDS TO TAKE AT A TEAM TO AKRON TO HAVE THE FOLK COME IN AND GET TO KNOW THE DISTRICT AND FACILITATE THE PROCESS AS WE GO THROUGH PHASE ONE, TWO AND THREE. SO THAT'S WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. WE WOULD ENTERTAIN QUESTION. >> THANK YOU FOR THAT DETAILED PRESENTATION. I APPRECIATE IT. IT'S GOOD FOR THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THIS IS NEW I BELIEVE. >> I WAS GOING TO SAY YOU BROUGHT UP OTHER SCHOOLS TOO SEW MAYBE I MISSED IT BUT WHEN YOU SAY WE GET THE GRANT -- IS IT A GRANT THAT ALL THE SCHOOLS SPLIT OR DO EACH OF THEM HAVE TO GET THEIR OWN GRANT? >> LET ME CLARIFY THAT. THE GRANT IS ALMOST $4 MILLION. THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS INVOLVED WILL RECEIVE ABOUT ONE POINT SICK MILLION OF THOSE DOLLARS. NO, WOULDN'T THAT BE NICE, IF IT WAS EACH. WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS YOUR SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL RECEIVE ABOUT $270,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF IDENTIFYING A PERSON WHO'S GOING TO LEAD THE WORK INSIDE OF YOUR DISTRICT. SO IT'S VITAL AND CRITICAL BECAUSE EVERYONE IS BUSY; EVERYONE HAS THEIR PLATE FULL, SO TO IDENTIFY A PERSON WHO WILL COME IN AND LEAD THE WORK, SO THERE'S $270,000 THAT COVERS TWO YEARS WE HOPE OF SALARY AND BENEFITS AND EACH DISTRICT RECEIVES AN ALLOTMENT, SOME DISTRICTS ARE SMALLER, SOME ARE LARGER BUT THEY ALL HAVE AN ALLOTMENT THAT WILL HELP TO BRING THAT PERSON ON BOARD AND PAY FOR THAT PERSON. >> SO IT'S NOT NECESSARILY ADDITIONAL FOR THE TWO YEARS, AN ADDITIONAL COST TO OUR DISTRICT, THAT FUNDING WILL BE PAID FOR FROM THAT 270 BECAUSE THAT 270 ALL FOR THE STAFF OR IS IT 270 FOR STAFF AND THEN OTHER THINGS THEY'LL USE IT FOR? >> NO, THAT WILL PAY FOR THE STAFF PERSON. THERE'S A TOTAL OF ABOUT 630,000 THAT GOES OF VALUE THAT COME TO YOU THROUGH OUR WORK AND FORD NGL, SO THE AKRON VISIT IS PAID FOR, YOU'LL HAVE A TEAM OF TEN THAT WILL GO TO AKRON AND THAT WILL BE PAID FOR THROUGH THE GRANT. YOU'LL ALSO THROUGH THE FIRST THREE FAZES THERE'S AN ALLOTMENT FOR THE COACHES WHO ARE COMING IN AND WORKING WITH YOUR PEOPLE INSIDE THE DISTRICT SO THE TOLD [01:00:02] VALUE COMING TO HAMILTON HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN IS 6,030,000 THE 270 IS FOR THE PERSON WHO WILL LEAD THE DISTRICT. >>> SO SORRY TO BE BLUNT AND MAYBE A DEVILS ADVOCATE WHAT ABOUT THE RESOURCES? IS THAT AN DILIGENCE ADDITIONAL COST? >> WHAT WE'LL DO IS WHEN WE IMMENTED THIS IN GREATER CLARK WE HAD NO GRANT FUNDING, WHAT HAPPENED IS WE DEVELOPED A GROUP OF COMMUNITY BASED STAKEHOLDERS THAT WERE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESS, COMMUNITY AND WE STARTED TO ASK THEM TO INVEST IN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM AND WE DID NOT HAVE TO PAY BECAUSE OF THEIR INVESTMENT IN US WE DID NOT HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS. WE CAN HELP YOUR SCHOOL SYSTEM ONCE WE GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND PEOPLE ARE INVESTED AND THEY SEE THE VALUE TO THEM. UNITED WAY FOR EXAMPLE, THEY PAID FOR A CAREER CENTER IN EACH OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS IN GREATER CLARK. THEY PAID FOR THAT. THEY PAID FOR ALL THE INITIAL PLANNING. WE HAD NO GRANT FUNDING. THE ONLY THING WE ASKED OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT TO DO IS REWE APPORTIONED STAFFING TO HAVE A COLLEGE CAREER COORDINATOR AT ALL TOLEDO OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL AND WE DIDN'T ADD STAFF WE JUST REAPPORTIONED STAFF TO DO THAT, SO WHAT I GUESS I'M SAYING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION IS THAT WE CAN HELP YOU IDENTIFY -- FIRST OF ALL WE DON'T SEE YOU HAVING A HUGE AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL COST IN RESOURCES. WE THINK THAT WE CAN HELP PROVIDE A LOT OF THAT TO YOU BUT IF THERE'S A NEED IDENTIFIED BY YOUR COMMUNITY THROUGH THIS PROCESS THAT I CAN ALMOST ASSURE YOU THAT THERE WILL BE FUNDING THAT THESE ENTITIES THAT WANT TO TALK ABOUT OWNERSHIP IN HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN WE'RE NOT ASKING FOR CHARITY OR GIFTS. >> SO OUTSIDE STAKEHOLDERS THEY WOULD BE MAKING DONATIONINGS OR HELP TO FUND IF WE NEEDED ADDITIONAL FUNDING. >> SO RIGHT NOW NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO END UP NEEDLING AS RESOURCES BECAUSE THE PROCESS HASN'T STARTED. THAT FIRST LITTLE GRAIN OF WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR WILL BE AT THE AKRON VISIT AND YOU'LL START TO SEE OTHER IDEAS AND WHAT OTHER COMMUNITIES HAVE DONE. THEN WHEN YOU COME BACK AND WE HAVE THAT INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING, IT REALLY IS ABOUT THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO BUILD CONSENSUS WORK SHOPS AND BRING THOSE PEOPLE AND LET THEM HAVE CONVERSATION AND MAKE DECISIONS AND YOU GET THAT BUY IN FROM THE BUSINESSES WHEN THEY'RE SITTING AT THE TABLE. THE WHEN AN IDEA IS BORN THAT EVERYONE IS AROUND YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE THAT SAY I CAN GET BEHIND THAT. AND THAT'S WHAT WE'VE WATCHED. SO THE FORD NGL FRAMEWORK, THAT ROAD MAP IS JUST THE STEPS YOU TAKE, BUT THE PERSON FROM FORD AND MYSELF WILL JUST BE THERE FACILITATING AND ALL THE IDEAS AND WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND HOW TO ACCOMPLISH IT HAPPENS HERE WITH YOUR FOLKS AND THEN YOU ARE ALE THEN TO -- IT'S AMAZING WHEN YOU BECOME A PART OF THE PLAN THEN THERE'S THAT BUY IN AND THOSE STAKEHOLDERS SUDDENLY SAY HEY I KNOW SOMEBODY THAT KNOWS SOMEBODY THAT CAN HELP US WITH THAT AND THEN YOU START TO SEE THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY COME AROUND ALL OF YOUR PLANS. >> SO I MENTION TOAD YOU THE 180 MEMBER STEERING COMMITTEE THAT WE HAD IN GREATER CLARK, THAT KEPT GROWING OVER TIME BECAUSE PEOPLE WERE BUYING IN TO THE CONCEPT AND THE PROCESS. WE HAD MAJOR BUSINESS LEADERS ATTACHED, UPS CAME FROM LOUISVILLE AND THEY WERE A MAJOR PARTNER FOR US. THEY WANTED TO INVEST IN US BECAUSE TALENT -- COMPANIES THAT ARE LOOKING FOR TALENT THEY CAN'T BE SO SPECIFIC THAT THEY KEEP THAT FOCUS IN ONE AREA SO WE'RE TRYING TO GROW THAT OUT AND EXPAND THAT REACH. SO I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE GETTING EXTRA FUNDING SUPPORT ONCE WE WENT THROUGH THAT PROCESS WITH OUR BUSINESS LEADERS AND NONPROFITS. THEY INVESTED IN US. >>> SO IF I HEAR YOU CORRECTLY THE AKRON VISIT IS THE INTEGRAL PART WHERE WE -- AND YOU WILL PROBABLY GUIDE WHAT'S NECESSARY TO GO TO THIS VISIT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM. RIGHT, THIS IS A TWO PART QUESTION SO WITH THAT INFORMATION COMING IN WILL THERE [01:05:03] BE SPECIFIC GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTSES THAT WE WILL RECEIVE ABOUT THE GRANT THAT GIVES US THE DETAILED LOOK OF WHAT OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT? BECAUSE I'M SURE THERE'S GOT TO BE A CHECKLIST TO RECEIVE THESE FUNDS YOU HAVE TO DO A, B, C, D, SO I HAVE FOUR KIDS AND YOU SAID YOU HAVE THREE. SAME SITUATION, ONE IS IN THE MARINES, TWO WENT THE COLLEGE, ONE STILL DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING, SO I APPRECIATE THAT THERE'S OPPORTUNITY BUT I'M JUST ALSO WANTING TO FIGURE OUR OUT WHAT ARE THE DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS AND WHERE'S THAT CHECK LIST. >> AND I WOULD SAY I PRESENTED THE CHECK LIST FOR YOU TO TALK ABOUT THE JOURNEY. >> SO THOSE ARE OUR GOALS INITIALLY. AS THEY JUST SHARED WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING ON A JOB DESCRIPTION THAT WILL BE POSTED BUT BEFORE WE CAN POST THE JOB DESCRIPTION WE HAVE -- MY LEADERSHIP TEAM WE HAVE THE AWESOME OPPORTUNITY WITH THE HELP TO DECIDE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, BUT WHAT WE DO HERE HAS TO FIT IF NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. SO WE'RE WORKING ON A JOB DESCRIPTION AND WE'RE GOING TO POST THAT JOB DESCRIPTION WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT IN THEORY IT IS A TWO YEAR COMMITMENT. THE OTHER THING IS THE SEPTEMBER VISIT THERE ARE TEN KEY STAKEHOLDER TYPE POSITIONS THAT HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED TO GO TO THAT PARTICULAR SETTING AND IT IS THE INTRODUCTORY SETTING. SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW IS MAKING SURE WE HAVE BOOTS ON THE GROUND FOR WHO'S GOING TO THAT VISIT AND GETTING TOGETHER OUR JOB DRIPPING FOR WHAT WE ENVISION TO BE THE SUPPORTS. AND SO FAR THAT'S WHAT WE'VE BEEN CONCENTRATING ON. AND AFTER WE GET TO AKRON WE'RE GOING TO SHARE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED AND ANOTHER THING WE'LL DO ONCE WE GET OUR PERSON BOOTS ON THE GROUND VIE THE JOB DESCRIPTION THAT PERSON NEEDS TO REACH OUT TO VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS IN OUR COMMUNITY SO WE CAN GET I WOULD SAY 200 FOLKS WITH THE HOPES THAT 150 OF THEM WILL PARTNER. PARTICIPATE. BECAUSE I LOOK AT IT AS COMMUNITY GROUPS OF INTEREST AND THE END GOAL FROM MINE IS THAT WE WANT OUR COMMUNITY TO HELP US DETERMINE WHAT IT IS THAT WE WANT STUDENTS TO KNOW EASTBOUND UNDERSTAND AND BE ABLE TO DO AT KINDERGARTEN, FIRST GRADE, SECOND GRADE. SO THAT IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IN A NUTSHELL. AM I RIGHT ABOUT IS THAT IS THIS. >> VERY GOOD SUMMARY AND THE OTHER THING THAT I THINK IS IMPORTANT TO MENACE, IT'S LIKELY THAT'S GOING TO ROLL OUT IN SEPTEMBER. I'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THE DOE FOR ABOUT A YEAR ON THAT PROCESS SEW EVERYTHING WE DO IS GOING TO CORRELATE AND COMPLIMENT THE INDIANA GPS SYSTEM AND SO I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW BECAUSE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT EVERY SCHOOL SYSTEM IS GOING TO BE EXPECTED TO BE INVOLVED IN IN SOME WAY OR SOME SHAPE SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WORK COMP LET MES IT SO YOU DON'T FEEL YOU HAVE TO GO DOWN ONE PATH AND THEN ANOTHER PATH. >>> AND THERE'S ANOTHER THING THAT'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT FOR OUR DISTRICT, WITH CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE HAMILTON COUNTY CAREER CENTER WHICH I KNOW OUR BOARD IS GOING TO HAVE SOME INFORMATION ON THAT AND THEY'LL HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT OUR PARTICIPATION BUT WE AL WANT THAT PERSON TO BE THE BOOTS ON THE GROUNDS TO HELP US TRANSITION FROM J EVERETT TO HCCA. >> SO THIS IS IN A MOTION -- NOT THAT -- BUT THIS IS NOT JUST -- THIS IS SOMETHING HFC IS IMPLEMENTS AUTOMATICALLY. THERE'S NO VOTE OR ANYTHING AND IT'S NOT COSTING US ANY MONEY. >> WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN AWARDED THE GRANT AND IT IS SOMETHING -- THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE AND AN EXPECTATION FROM THE STATE. >> AND MAYBE IT'S ME NOT UNDERSTANDING BUT PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE I THOUGHT THAT WAS SOMETHING OUR PREVIOUS SUPERINTENDENT BROUGHT TO THE STATE. >> AND I KNOW DR. KEGLY WAS HERE SO WHILE I UNDERSTAND WHAT A PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE IS -- >> PRIOR TO TO PANDEMIC DR. BOURFF WE HAD ASSEMBLED A COMMITTEE TO DO WORK ON PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE AND WE GOT SOME AREAS IDENTIFIED BUT WE DEFERENT [01:10:03] GET -- WE HAD TO STOP OUR WORK AND DIDN'T GET TO SEE THAT TO FRUITION AND I THINK WHAT DR. MELON IS SPEAKING ABOUT IS THE LANDSCAPE HAS CHAINED IN TERMS OF THE INDIANA GPS REQUIREMENTS AND SO THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY REALLY TO TAKE THAT WORK, SOME OF WHICH WHICH HAS AY BEEN DONE BUT WE DIDN'T ENGAGE NEARLY THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS IS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT IN THIS OPPORTUNITY, WHILE ALSO MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS THE STATE HAS FOR US AS A DISTRICT WITH THE INDIANA GPS. >>> SO THEY'RE BASICALLY PARTNERING WITH US TO GUIDE US THROUGH THAT PROCESS. >> CORRECT. >> AND IF I MAY THE VITAL COMPONENT OF THIS IS YOU CAN HAVE A PORTRAITED OF A GRADUATE THAT LOOKS PRETTY AND THAT YOU CAN PUT ON WALLS AROUND YOUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS -- THAT'S A STARTING POINT, THE KEY IS A MASTER PLAN. IF WE WANT OUR KIDS TO HAVE THESE SUSPICIOUS SKILLS THAT THE COMMUNITY AS IDENTIFIED THEN HOW DO WE EMBED THOSE AT EVERY SINGLE LEVEL, WHETHER IT'S PERSIST EDGES, HOW DO YOU EMBED THAT IN YOUR DISTRICT? SO THE KEY IS THIS HAS TO BE A LIVING PROCESS WHERE THE WHOLE COMMUNITY IS ENGAGED FULLY IN IT TO MAKE SURE THAT KIDS KNOW THAT THAT'S OUR -- PARDON ME, KID ASKS ADULTS KNOW THAT THAT'S OUR CULTURE AND IN HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN WE IDENTIFIED THIS. FORMAL WAYNE SCHOOLS WE INVITED 300 PEOPLE AND THEY HAD 200 PEOPLE CAN TO THE FIRST CONSENSUS WORK SHOP AND SO TO IDENTIFY SKILLS. SO AND WE HAD 40 OF THOSE WERE STUDENTS. STUDENT VOICES VITAL AND CRITICAL HERE SO 40 OF THOSE WERE STUDENTS FROM FIFTH GRADE THROUGH 12TH DRAYED AND AT THE END OF THE DAY THEY STOOD UP AND STEPPED OUT AND TALKED ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE AND THE QUESTION WAS WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO STAY TO THE STUDENTS IN YOUR SCHOOL WHEN YOU GO BACK, AND THE FIRST PROBLEM TO PERSON TO STEP FORWARD WAS A FIFTH GRADER AND HE SAID I APPRECIATE LEARNING TODAY HOW MUCH OUR ADULT CARE ABOUT US. I MEAN, THAT WAS A TEAR JERKER SO THAT'S TO ME WAS SAYING WE'RE GOING TO BUILD A CULTURE BUT THE CULTURE IS WHAT YOUR COMMUNITY DECIDE IT TO BE. >> AS A BOARD ID KNOW THAT WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS AND DIFFERENT THINGS AND I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DON'T SAY IT AND I KNOW IT'S PROBABLY OBVIOUS BUT I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DON'T SAY THIS. WE'RE STILL FOCUSING ON AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION AND CORE FIRST AND THEN IT'S THIS ON TOP OF THAT, AM I CORRECT? BECAUSE WHEN WE HEAR ABOUT THESE THINGS THAT COME OUT IN A SCHOOL I'M JUST -- YOU KNOW, ASKING BECAUSE I WANT TO BRING IT UP TOO THAT ALL THESE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO ADD AND BRING IN, THAT'S WONDERFUL BUT DOES THAT ON TOP OF CORE EDUCATION, OR IS THAT -- >> NO, IT'S EMBEDDED. THESE SUPPORT THE FOUNDATIONAL THINGS. PART OF IS THE INDIANA GPS. >> CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT THAT IS? BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT IT IS -- >> HERE'S WHAT I CAN TELL YOU IN A NUTSHELL. >>> ARE THERE THRIVE BIG BUCKETS AND ONE OF THOSE A ACADEMIC MASTERY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO GET YOUR STUDENTS TO ACADEMIC MASTERY. COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION, THAT'S -- THOSE ARE SUCCESS SKILLS. HOW DO WE TEACH AND EMBED HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR AND TO WORK IN A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT. WORK ETHIC, THAT CAN BE DEFINED IN MANY WAYS BUT I THINK THE STATE IS FOCUSING ON HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THE STUDENTS CAN TAKE INITIATIVE TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE DEPENDABLE AND RELIABLE WHICH IS A CRITICAL COMPONENT. AND THE THEN THE FIFTH PIECE IS CAREER AWARENESS. SO HOW CAN WE GIVE STUDENT AS THEY'RE WORKING THROUGH ALL THESE PHASES, HOW CAN WE AT THE ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVELS START TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE OUT IN OUR REGION? O WE'RE DOING ELEMENTARY, IT MIGHT BE MORE BRINGING GUEST SPEAKERS IN; TAKING STUDENT ON FIELD TRIPS. MOORE WE COULD BE DOING MORE JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCES. HIGH SCHOOL IS A LOT OF WORK BASED LEARNING. GETTING KIDS OUT IN THE WORKFORCE AND WE HAVE TALKED TO [01:15:04] KYRA LIVELY, AND CHI WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS WITH HER TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE. >> REMIND THEM WHO CARY LIVELY IS. >> CAR RIVER LIVELY IS THE DIRECTOR OF THE HAMILTON CENTER FOR CAREER ACHIEVEMENT. I THINK I GOT THAT RIGHT. AS SOON AS I WE HEARD THAT HAMILTON HEATS IS INVOLVED IN THIS TOO AND WE ARE AWARE OF THE EFFORT IN HAMILTON COUNTY TO WORK TOGETHER IN A COLLABORATIVE WAY SO WE THINK -- WE KNOW THAT WE CAN TIE THE WORK INTO WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO WANT THE ACCOMPLISH WITH THE HCCCA, WE CAN TIE IT TOGETHER BECAUSE THE KEY IS LET'S NOT HAVE SILOS. LET'S INTEGRATE SO EVERYONE IS WORKING IN THE SAME PATH IN THE SAME WAY. >> I WOULD JUST ADD THAT -- AND I THINK WHAT DR. MELON IS ALLUDING TO IS THE FACT THAT CERTAINLY CORE ACADEMIC SKILLS ARE KEY AND THEY'RE THE BED ROB OF WHAT WE DO AND THEY COULD ALLEN BOURFF BE A PIECE OF THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE BUT WE ALSO IN ORDER TO PREPARE OUR STUDENTS FOR THE WORLD THAT THEY ARE GOING TO EXPERIENCE HAVE TO FIGHT THE URGE TO STOP THINKING THAT ALL OF THESE OTHER PIECES, SOME OF WHICH HE JUST MENTIONED, COLLABORATION, GRIT, PERSISTENCE, WHAT HAVE YOU ARE ALL DONE IN ISOLATION FROM ACADEMIC LEARNING. THAT IS NOT THE CASE, THEY SHOULD BE SUPPORTIVE OF ACADEMIC LEARN AND THEY SHOULD BE EMBEDDED WITH ACADEMIC LEARNING AND HAVE YOU CAN'T DO THE REALLY HARD STUFF WITHOUT THE FOUNDATIONAL CORE. BUT YOU CONTINUE DO THE HARD STUFF WITHOUT THOSE OTHER THINGS AS WELL. >> THANK YOU FOR THAT. >> JANET HAS A QUESTION. >> FIRST I WANT TO SAY -- I WANT TO GIVE YOU A COMPLIMENT. I ALSO HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND HAVE TAKEN MANY CLASSES THROUGH CIESC AND I'VE BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY IMPRESSED BY THE LEVEL OF EDUCATION RECEIVED FROM THOSE CLASSES SO I JUST WANT TOT SAY THANK YOU. BUT MY QUESTION IS, HOW DOES THIS PROGRAM FIT INTO WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE STARTED? SO I REALIZE THAT OUR INTERNSHIP, HANDSES ON EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING COULD USE SOME BEEFING UP, BUT HOW DOES THAT -- YOU KNOW, WORK SIDE BY SIDE WITH WHAT WE HAVE WITH OUR PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE ALREADY STARTED? >> SO AGAIN, THIS IS A PROCESS AND IT'S BRICKING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO TALK ABOUT THAT AND REFLECT ON IT. SO THERE WILL BE SOME GUIDING PRINCIPLES AND THEN YOU WILL DECIDE WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE AND WHAT'S WORKING WELL, WHERE ARE YOUR GAPS IF WE'RE GOING TO WORK TOWARD THAT NORTH STAR OF YOUR PORTRAITED OF A GRADUATE AND THEN ALSO WHAT INDIANA IS EXAMINING ON THE GRADUATES PREPARED TO SUCCEED PIECE AND THEN YOU MAKE THE PLAN OF HOW THAT WORKS, AND I WANT TO MENTION TWO THINGS BECAUSE I'VE BEEN HOLDING MY HAND LIKE THIS, TWO THINGS. NUMBER ONE I WANT TO REITERATE WHAT DR. STOKES SAID. I AM FULLY PREPARED WHEN WE TAKE THE SEVEN DISTRICTS TO AKRON TO COME BACK WITH SEVEN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IDEAS OF WHAT THOSE DISTRICTS WANT TO DO. TO STILL END UP AT THE SAME END GOAL THAT INDIANA IS EXPECTING FOR OUR GRADUATES AND THAT IS FANTASTIC, BECAUSE IT DOES FEET INTO WHAT REGION INDIVIDUAL COMMUNITY HAS TO OFFER. SECONDLY FANTASTIC GO BACK ON THAT TEACHER OF THE YEAR VIDEO AGAIN, THAT WOULD BE A GOLDEN TICKET AS TO WHAT THE ACTUAL PROCESS IS ALL ABOUT AND YOUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR STOOD HERE AND SAID IT'S ABOUT CURIOSITY. IT'S ABOUT LETTING THE KIDS BE CURIOUS AND SHE PUT -- SHE WOVE EVERY PIECE IN. THOSE KIDS HAD TO HAVE GRILL, THEY HAD TO HAVE PERSEVERANCE, THEY HAD TO COMMUNICATE AND LO AND BEHOLD SHE WAS INTRODUCING A CAREER AT A LOWER LEVEL, SO IF YOU WANT TO KNOW DOES IT ADD ON? NOPE. IT'S INTEGRATED INTO WHAT YOUR DISTRICT LOOKS LIKE. >>> AND IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE GIVE STAFF OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS THAT WE GET THEM OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, THEY THAT BECOME FULLY AWARE OF THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES. IF THEY'RE GOING TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM TEACHING STUDENTS THEY ALSO NEED TO BE AWARE OF THE OPPORTUNITY THAT ARE OUT THERE AND HOW CAN I CONNECT MY CONTENT. [01:20:01] IT WON'T HAPPEN EVERY DAY BUT HOW CAN I CONNECT MY CONTENT TOE WHAT'S OUT THERE, AND THIS IS MY OPINION, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT WORD IN EDUCATION IN MY MIND, ESPECIALLY TO STUDENTS IS RELEVANCY. IF IT'S NOT RELEVANT IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW RIGOROUS OR HOW ENGAGING THAT WE MAKE THINGS, IT'S WHEN IT'S RELEVANT THAT RIGOR AND ENGAGEMENT INCREASE AND I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF TEACHERS HERE TODAY. ALL WE WANT TO DO IS CONTINUE TO ENHANCE THE ABILITY TO KNOW WHAT'S OUTED THERE SO THEY CAN CONNECT THEIR CONTENT WHEREVER POSSIBLE PHOTO STUDENT LEARNING. >> I WANT TO PIGGYBACK ON WHAT JANET SAID BECAUSE I HAD AN INTERN START TODAY SO I LOVE THAT PROGRAM AND GETTING STARTED I MEAN, I HOPE WE LOOK AT THE THINGS WE ARE DOING WELL AND KEEP THAT AND BUILD ON TOP OF THAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRESENTATION. >> CAN I ASK A FEW QUESTIONS? SO DOES THIS MEAN OUR PORTRAITED OF A GRADUATE IS GOING TO BE WORKED ON SOME MORE? BECAUSE I LOVE THAT BUT THE PANDEMIC -- >> WE'RE NOT GOING TO START FROM SCRATCHMENT WE NEED TO GET TO THAT PHASE TWO IN THE ORIGINAL VISIT TO THE DISTRICT, THAT WILL BE A QUESTION THAT WE HAVE, DO YOU HAVE ONE WHAT STAGE IS IT IN. AND AS WE DO THAT THAT'S THE WHAT WE'LL START WITH AS WE DO A CONSENSUS WORKSHOP AND THERE'S TWO PARTS THAT BRINGS ALL THOSE FOLKS TOGETHER TO WORK ON THAT. >> AND I SEE MARCH 24 SH 2021 THE GRAPHIC IS THERE. BUT YEAH THAT HAVE AMAZING PROGRAM. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET ON BOARD DOCS AND PUT IN PORTRAITED OF A GRADUATE. ANOTHER QUESTION AND THIS IS FOR DR. KEGLY AND DR. STOKES, DID WE NOT HAVE A FORD NEXT GENERAL WHEN BRANDON CLOUD CAME TO PRESENT THE STUDENTS? WAS THAT NOT A FORD NEXTGEN LEADER? >> THAT WAS A SCHOLARSHIP THAT THAT STUDENT HAD WON. >> SO WE'VE USED THAT PROGRAM SO AND -- >> THIS IS MORE OF A CONSULTANTING ARM. >> SO WHAT I'M THINKING IS FORD IS OBVIOUSLY THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND THEY'RE GOING TO PRESENT HOW THEY WORK WITH SCHOOL SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO GET STUDENTS INTO THE AUTOMOTESSIVE INDUSTRY. >> YOU'RE ASKING SOMETHING THAT OUR COMMUNITY ASKED RIGHT AWAY. FORD, THEY MAKE CARS IS A IS THIS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT? THEY'RE GOING TO TRY TO CREATE HAIR OWN LABOR FORCE AND IT'S NOT. SO WHAT THEY DID IS AGAIN, AS D. FIVER MENTIONED HENRY FORD THEY DECIDED TO HAVE A PHILANTHROPIC I THINK ARM AND THEY WANTED TO FOCUS ON EDUCATIONAL QUALITY ACROSS THE COMMUNITY AND HE KNEW AT THAT TIME THAT -- IT CAN'T BE ABOUT ANY ONE ORGANIZATION OR ENTITY, SO FORD AND GL, YOU'LL SEE THEY'LL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY MULTIPLE DIFFERENT SPENTS OF YOUR COMMUNITY, THEIR NOT HERE TO ENHANCE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THAT'S NOT THEIR MISSION, BUT I'M GLAD YOU ASKED THAT QUESTION BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL ASK THAT. >> I DON'T KNOW IF THE WORD FORD HAS EVER COME UP IN THE THREE YEARS I HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THEM OTHER THAN THE NAME, BUT WHEN YOU'RE WORKING WITH THEM UNLESS YOU HAVE A FORD PLANT NEAR YOU, THEN -- >> YOU DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. >> NO. >> AND MAYBE THIS IS A BLUNT QUESTION, DOES THE ASSOCIATION ARE THEY PART OF THAT TRIP TOO TO AKRON AND ARE THEY -- >> WE HAVE -- >> DO THEY COMMUNICATE WITH THEM AND ARE THEY IN SUPPORT OF THIS PROGRAM? >> YES, THERE WERE TEN STRATEGIC THE TYPES OF ROLES THAT WE WANTED TO BE A PART OF AND YES WE DO HAVE A REP FROM THE ASSOCIATION THAT'S GOING. >> AND I -- >> I GUESS WHAT I'M SAYING HAVE WE COMMUNICATED WITH THEM. >> I'LL LET HER ANSWER THAT QUESTION. >> THANK YOU. >> I DON'T WANT TO SPEAK FOR HER. >> SO I THINK RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN THE IT'S LEARNING PROCESS AND SO WE ARE -- I WILL BE GOING ALONG IN THAT PLANNING PROCESS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IT AND UNTIL WE HAVE MORE INFORMATION, WE'RE IN THE LEARNING CURVE. >> I APPRECIATE THAT, THANK YOU. >> AND THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY I FEEL WILL ON BOARD THE TEN MEMBERS TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE VISIT SO TO GIVE THEM A LITTLE MORE BACKGROUND INFORMATION SO THEY KIND OF HAVE AN IDEA AT LEAST OF WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR WHEN THEY GO AND THERE'S A PROCESS THAT WE GO THROUGH TO TALK ABOUT EACH OF THE STRANDS OF THIS PROCESS, AND LOOK FOR LITTLE PIECES FOR EACH ONE OF THOSE THAT YOU MAY HAVE IN COMMON IN YOUR DISTRICT OR YOU MAY WANT IN YOUR DISTRICT. AND THEN WHEN WE GET DONE WE [01:25:03] HAVE A REFLECTION A COUPLE HOURS AFTER THE STUDY VISIT IS OVER AND THEN WE'LL MAKE DECISIONS ON WHAT SHOULD WE BRING BACK AND SHARE WITH THE DISTRICT AND HOW ITING, LIKE YOU SAID ITING EVERYBODY ABOUT THIS PROCESS. >> WE JUST KNOW THAT LIKE ELSE YOU HAVE TO INVEST IN YOUR TEACHERS AND SO THEY WILL BE FULLY IMMERSED IN EVERY STAGE ALONG THE WAY BECAUSE THIS WON'T WORK UNLESS THEY BELIEVE IN IT. >> I GOT A QUESTION EASTBOUND A STATEMENT, MAYBE IT'S A COMMENT, MAYBE IT'S SOMETHING OF ALL THAT WEAVED TOGETHER. AS YOU PRESENTED PRESENTED THIST SOUNDERS KIND OF NEW AND INNOVATIVE AND A NEW APPROACH. IS THAT A FAIR COMMENT? >> IT IS -- I THINK IT IS A FAIR COMMENT. FIRST OF ALL THERE ARE COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THAT HAVE BEEN DOING THIS KIND OF WORK FOR MANY YEARS. THE REASON WHY I THINK SOME COMMUNITIES CHOOSE NOT TO DO THE WORK IS IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK TO GET IT DONE. WHEN YOU THINK OF PULLING TOGETHER ALL YOUR DIFFERENT TAKE HOLDERS AND GETTING THEM FOCUSED ON ONE VISION AND MISSION, IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK. ONE OF OUR FIRST MEETINGS WE HAD NOT JUST OUR I WANTS IN THE ROOM BUT OUR COMMUNITY LEADERS. EDUCATORS WANTED TO LOW IT DOWN BUT THE BUSINESS LEADERS HAD MORE OF A SENSE OF URGENCY SO BY THE END OF THE SECOND MEETING IS THOSE TWO ENTITIES MERGE ASK THE ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE PACE WAS THE SAME FOR BOTH GROUPS SO GETTING EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE, MOVING IN A PACE THAT'S COMFORTABLE FOR YOUR COMMUNITY BUT IT IS TRANSFORMATIONAL. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CAN MAKE A HUGE ADDITIONAL, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR COMMUNITY DEMOGRAPHIC IS. I'VE SEEN IT WORK AT EVERY LEVEL. IT'S GOOD BECAUSE IT'S RELEVANT AND IT'S GREAT FOR KIDS. >> THE ONLY REASON I ASK THAT IS BECAUSE IT FEEL LIKE EXACTLY WHAT I EXPERIENCED 40 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL SO I WONDER WHY THIS IS NEW OR INNOVATIVE. IT FEELS LIKE -- WHEN DID WE STOP DOING THESE THINGS AND -- YOU KNOW, I GUESS I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT. WHEN DID WE STOP DOING THESE THINGS AND STOP THIS RELATION THAT WILL INTERACTING WITH THE COMMUNITY AND BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PUBLIC EDUCATION WAS 40 YEARS AGO. >> AND NEEDS TO CONTINUE TO BE, RIGHT. >> ABSOLUTELY, I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THAT BUT IT'S LIKABLE DID IT STOP DOING THAT SOMEWHERE? HAVE YOU TALK ABOUT CULTUR AND ATTITUDE AND ALIGNMENT. DID WE VEER OFF THE TRACK? >> IF I WERE TO MAYBE A COMMENT ABOUT THAT AFTER BEING IN EDUCATION FOR 40 YEARS I FEEL THAT SO MANY THINGS HAVE HAPPENED IN LIFE OVER THE PAST FOUR DECADES THAT I THINK WE HAVE BECOME A LITTLE MORE SELF-ABSORBED, WE HAVE NOT NECESSARILY -- THAT WHOLE COMMUNITY BASED SPIRIT, THAT WILLINGNESS TO COLLABORATE AND THAT WILLINGNESS TO BE IN A ROOM WITH SOMEONE AND SAY HOW CAN WE WORK TOGETHER TO IMPROVE I THINK WE HAVE LOST THAT BUT I THINK THE CAREER TECH COMPONENT, THE THING THAT THIS CAN DO IS -- AND THIS IS THE I HOPE THE LAST THING I'LL TELL YOU BUT THIS TOE ME IS PHILOSOPHICALLY IMPORTANT. THERE ARE SUPERSTARS IN EVERY SCHOOL SYSTEM AND ORGANIZATION IN THIS COUNTRY THAT ARE NATURALLY GIFTED AND THEY CAN SUCCEEDS NO MATTER WHAT. THERE ARE ALSO PEOPLE ON THE OTHER END OF THAT SPECTRUM THAT NEED HELP EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. THE LARGEST PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE IN OUR COUNTRY ARE WHAT I CALL BACKBONES, THEY'RE RESPECTFUL, THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE, THEY CARE, BUT IN SCHOOL THEY DON'T GET A LOT OF ATTENTION. THE SUPER STARS DO AND THE INDIVIDUALS ON OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM BUT 70 PERCENT DON'T GET ATTENTION. THIS PROGRAM MAKES SURE THAT EVERY STUDENT GETS ATTENTION, EVERY STUDENT WILL DO IT AND THAT'S THE BIG DIFFERENCE -- IF I'M TO PUT IT IN A NUT SHELL AND I'VE SEEN IT AND I BELIEVE IT >>> AND IF I MAY OFFER AN EDITORIAL COMMENT ABOUT HOW WE GOT OFF THE RAILS I THINK TEST SCORES ARE PART OF IT TOO. MY OLDEST CHILD NEVER DID WELL [01:30:02] ON TESTS IS THRIVING IN HIS JOB, 25 YEARS OLD MAKINGABLE MORE MONEY THAN I WILL EVER MAYBE BUT YOU LOOK AT HIS TEST SCORES AND YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THAT. BUT HE WASN'T HIRED BECAUSE OF HIS TEST SKILLS. HE WAS HIRED BECAUSE OF HIS PEOPLE SKILLS. ONE OTHER THING I WANT TO MENTION CURIOSITY WITH A C, FISHERS AND IT WAS BETWEEN THE CITY AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT AND OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND IT WAS BASICALLY A HUB WHERE TEACHERS COULD LOG IN AND FIND WAYS TO CONNECT WITH BUSINESSES AND IF THEY WERE DOING A STUDY ON PLANTS THEY WOULD BRING IN THE LOCAL NURSERY AND THEY WOULD COME IN AND SPEAK, AND OFFERED INTERNSHIPS FOR TEACHERS TO WORK IN THESE BUSINESSES OVER THE SUMMER SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT'S NEED INSIDE THESE BUSINESSES AND THESE COMPANIES THAT I CAN HELP GET MY STUDENTS UP TO SPEED ON. >> ONE OF THE THINGS WE DID IN GREATER CLASH IS WE HAD 500-DOLLAR TEACHER E TERN SHIPS AND TEACHERS COULD GO WORK IN A BUSINESS FOR 40 HOURS AND THEY WOULD BE COMPENSATE AT $500. OUR TEACHERS NEED TO BE INVESTED IN AND WE NEED TO GIVE THEM OPPORTUNITYIES >>> SO I THINK WE ARE -- WE'VE DONE A LOT OF THESE THINGS ALREADY AND I LOVE TO SEE THAT THEY'RE RESURRECTED AND GETTING A SECOND CHANCE. >> I TOTALLY AGREE AND I THINK A LOT OF THIS WITH THEIR HELP WILL BE PULLING ALL THESE PIECES TOGETHER THAT WE STARTED TO WORK ON AND SORT OF OUR ADMIN TEAM AND OUR LEADERSHIP HAD STARTED WORKING ON A LOT OF THESE AND THEN WITH COVID CAN OTHER THINGS, SO BE BRINGING IN PARENTS TO FIND OUT WHAT'S IMPORTANT AND BRING THESE THINGS BACK TOGETHER. >> AND WE HAVE TAKEN FAR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME BUT I DO WANT TO CLOSE WITH THIS. I WAS A MOORE TEACHER, PROJECT BASED LEARNING TEACHER, I DID GO BACK AND WAS A PRINCIPAL OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY FOR 14 YEARS AND BECAME ARREST TENANTS SUPERINTENDENT, DURING MY TIME AS PRINCIPAL, MY GOT MY PAYCHECK BEING A PRINCIPAL BUT MY VOLUNTEER WORK WAS FOR THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND THE VISION WAS TO CONNECT COMMUNITY BUSINESS AND EDUCATION SO WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME BRINGING THOSE STAKEHOLDERS TOGETHER. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION DOING THE SAME WORK. THERE WAS A POSITION POSTED AT GREATER CLARK AND GUESS WHO WAS DOING THIS WORK? AND I'M LIKE THAT'S WHERE I GOT TO BE. PLUS I GET TO TO DO EDUCATION. SO I WILL TELL YOU THAT SCHOOL IS SCHOOL. WE HAVE TO DO SCHOOL BUT WHEN THAT PROCESS TAKES POLICE STATION AND YOU HAVE MORE THAN JUST SCHOOL FOLKS AT THE TABLE WORKING TOGETHER AND YOU START TO SEE EACH OTHER IN THE COMMUNITY AND THEY'RE COMING IN FOR THESE PROGRAMS AND INVESTING AND THANKING YOU FOR WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO RAISE KIDS TO COME WORK FOR THEM, MANAGIC HAPPENS. AND I LEFT GREATER CLARK BECAUSE I NEEDED TO BE CLOSER TO FAMILY AND I RELOCATED HERE AS AN ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT SOUTH OF THE CITY BUT WHEN DR. MELON CALLED ME AND SAID HEY, I GOT A GRANT TO HELP SEVEN DISTRICTS IN INDIANA DO THIS WORK. I DON'T EVEN THINK I HAD TO THINK ABOUT IT BECAUSE I LOVE BEING ON A SCHOOL CAMPUS JUST AS MUCH AS MATT DOES. I MINOR, IT IS LOVE FOR ME AND I'VE BEEN OUT OF THERE FOR TWO WEEKS AND I MISS KIDS LIKE CRAZY. BUT TO CAMPAIGN THE OPPORTUNITY TO WALK SIDE BY SIDE WITH SEVEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO LET YOU FEEL THAT MAGIC IS GOING TO BE AMAZING. >> I THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION AND THE PRESENTATION AND I KNOW WE'LL BE GETTING A LOT MORE FEEDBACK AFTER THE VISIT AND AS THE PROCESS STARTS. >> THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >>> MOVING ON WE HAVE MS. LIPPY WITH POLICY FIRST READ. >> GOOD EVENING BOARD, DR. STOKES. ARE YOU -- OKAY. IF YOU COULD SCROLL DOWN FOR A SECOND AT THE BOTTOM, DENISE MADE A NOTE AS TO HOW SHE IS GOING TO GROUP THE POLICIES, SO I THINK IT'S AT THE BOTTOM. [01:35:04] IT'S UNDERNEATH THE POLICIES JEFF. >> ON OUR TABLE IT'S THE STOP OF YOUR -- IT SAYS. >> PERFECT. >> ILL HELPS FOLLOW ALONG, SAYS 401, BOARD OFFICERS OBSERVED -- AND SO IT SHOULD BE EASY TO FOLLOW. >> SO WITH A I'LL DO IS, WE HAVE QUITE A FEW AND A LOT OF THE POLICIES ARE BEING ABSORBED -- I HAVE THATS. SO WE CAN GO THROUGH THAT WITHOUT GOING THROUGH EACH INDIVIDUAL POLICY I THINK, AND OUT OF RELATIONSHIP OF TIME. SO IF WE LOOK AT THE SUMMARY SHEET THAT WE HAVE, WHILE WE'RE RESINGLEDDING SEVERAL POLICIES THEY'RE BEING ABSORBED INTO EXISTING POLICY SOSES AGAIN IN AN EFFORTS TO STREAMLINE OUR BOOK OF POLICIES SO THESE -- DO YOU WANT ME TO GO THROUGH THE LIST? SO B 04 SO I 01 THIS IS BOARD AIR OFFICERS THIS IS BEING ABSORBED INTO ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL BOARD. SO YOU'E GOT ALL THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS IN YOUR PACKET. B 04.03 BOARDS COMMITTEES IS BEING ABSORBED INTO B 04.00S. THAT'S ALSO ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL BOARD. B 05.03 AGENDA IS BEING ABSORBED INTO B 05.00 BOARD MEETINGS. >> I APOLOGIZE I NEED TO STOP BECAUSE MY VERY FIRST THING, I HAVE THIS SHEET THAT YOU HAVE. THE VERY FIRST THING THAT I'M LOOKING SAYS B 2.1 WITHIN AND THEN THE NEXT PACKET SAYS B .04 BUT I DON'T SEE THAT ON THIS LIST SO I WANT TO HAVE CLARITY. >> SO IF YOU SEE B 02.00, WHICH THAT IS YOUR CORRECT, THAT'S FIRST IN YOUR PACKET SO I WAS GOING TO GO THROUGH THE BULLETED LIST BUT YOU'RE CREDIBILITY B 02.11 IS SCHOOL CORPORATION ADVOCACY. >> SO THIS 2.11 IS GOING TO BE ABSORBED AND BE PART OF B .09? >> IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE HIGHLIGHTED PART. >> THE ON SO JUST LET ME KNOW WHAT IS YOUR PREFERENCE, SO DO YOU PREFER THEY CONTINUE THROUGH THE BULL I WANTED LIST OR. >> I THINK THE WAY YOU WERE DOING IS PERFECT. >> OKAY, AND HAPPEN TO ANSWER QUESTIONS I. MINUTES OF BOARD MEETINGS, THAT IS BEING ABSORBED INTO B ZERO FIRE 00. B 7401 BOARD POLICY REVISION AND REVIEW IS BEING ABSORBED INTO B 07.00 BOARD POLICIES. B 07.02 SUSPENSION, REINSTATEMENT OF POLICY IS ALSO BEING ABSORBED INTO B 07.00. B 09.00 BOARD LEGGIVE PROGRAM IS BEING ABSORBED INTO B 02.11 SCHOOL CORNING ADVOCACY. YOU DO IS ANOTHER ATTACHED BOARD POLICY B 05.05, BROADCASTING OF BOARD MEETINGS AND THERE IS NO CHANGE TO THAT POLICY. AND SO AGAIN, THESE ARE ALL BEING PRESENTED AS A FIRST READ. THERE IS -- I BELIEVE AN ADDITIONAL POLICY WHICH IS A STAND ALONE B 06.00 AND B 06.05, THAT'S DUPLICATE POLICY SO THAT WILL ELIMINATE B 06.05 AND WE'LL HAVE B 06.00 WHICH IS BOARD OVERSCHOOL TRUSTEES CONSIDERATION OF EXPULSION APPEALS. SO THAT ONE IS NOT ON THE LIST? >> THAT ONE IS NOT ON THE LIST, THAT'S WHY I PULLED THAT ONE OUT. >> JUST MANGING SURE I WAS LOOKING AT THE RIGHT THING HERE, BUT THAT POLICY YOU JUST SAID IS B. >> B 07.00. >> AND THAT IS WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THAT? >> I'M SORRY, B 06.00, SUZANNE, YES, I'M SORRY. >> SO WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THAT ONE? [01:40:02] >> ON THAT POLICY WE ARE UPDATING -- >> SO IT'S CURRENT AND IT GOES INTO THE FIRST READ, THE VERY -- AND THAT'S THE TOP SHEET ONE, CORRECT? THIS ONE HERE? >> CORRECT. >> SKIT RAIDS THE BACKYARD OF TRUSTEES HAS VOTED NOT TO HEAR ANY EXPULSION APPEALS INSTEAD THEY MUST BE FILED WITH THE COULD COURT. >> THOSE ARE THE SUGGESTED. >> SO THE CODE COUNTRY CHANGE SOD THE CODE WHERE IT WAS WAS REPEAL SOD THEY UPDATED IT TO THE CURRENT INDIANA CODE CITE AND THAT CODE COUNTRY REQUIRES THE BOARD TO HAVE A POLICY ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY'RE GOING TO HEAR EXPULSION APPEAL. >> SO WE'RE KEEPING THE POLICY AND THEN B 06TH 05 THERE'S A LINE THROUGH IT. >> IT'S A DUPLICATE POLICY. >> 96 FOR THAT CLAIRE. >>> IN AGAIN THESE ARE PRESENTED FOR A FIRST READ. >> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? OKAY. [6. Action Items] SEEING NONE, THANK YOU. >> THANK YOU. >> WE'LL MOVE ON TO ACTION ITEMS. THINGS STEPHANIE MADISON. SOME UPDATES. >> GOOD EVENING. SORRY IMED TO MAKE SURE I WAS ON THE RIGHT GENTLED ITEM. SO I HAVE SOME FEE REVISIONS FOR YOU TONIGHT. HOPEFULLY THIS IS THE LAST OF THEM BUT WE DID GET OUR J EVERETT LIGHT FEES FROM THE CAREER CENTER AND ALSO AT HFC HIGH SCHOOL GERMAN CHAIN DUE TO ONE OF THE NOVELS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED FOR USE HAS BEEN OUT OF PRINT, AND THEN IN SPANISH, THAT COURSE WAS IN ACTIVE WHEN I BROUGHT FEES IN JUNE AND NOW THERE ARE STUDENTS ENROLLED. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? >> END -- DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? >> YEAH, CAN YOU SAY THE LAST SENTENCE REAL QUINN ABOUT THE SPANISH? I JUST ADJUSTING PARAPHERNALIAS BUT I HAD A QUESTION. >> YES IT'S MINE WHEN I BROUGHT THE FEES IN JUNE THAT COURSE WAS IN ACT I EVER BUT THEY NOW HAVE STUDENTED ENROLLED. >> THANK YOU. >> I HAVE A QUESTION AND THEINISM MAKE A MOTION. WHEN WILL THESE STATEMENTS BE SENT OUT TO FAMILIES OR BE ABLE VERY FAMILIES? >> IN SEPTEMBER. >> AND I WOULD LIKE THE MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE HFC HIGH SCHOOL FEE REVISIONS AS PRESENTED. >> SECOND. >> I HAVE A FIRST AND SECOND, ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENT? I WOULD.JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE. >>> I KNOW YOU'RE PRESENTING THE INDIE PREMIER -- >> YES SO WE HAVE TONIGHT IF YOU CONSIDERS AND POSSIBLE APPROVAL FOR THE 2022/23 SCHOOL YEAR RENTAL IMPROVEMENT. LAST YEAR WAS ONE YEAR AND GRANTED THE USE OF SIX FIELDS. THE CHAIN THIS YEAR IS A THREE PERCENT INCREASE AND A FEE AND ALSO WE REMOVED A HOOSIER ROAD FOR FALL AND SPRING SEASONS. WE ARE WORKING WITH IPSC ON THAT, WE'RE WORKING THROUGH SOME ISSUES, I THINK WE HAVE A DIFFERENCE OF STANDARDS THERE. THEY DIDN'T USE IT LAST YEAR EITHER AND WE'RE REMOVING A FIELD AT THE PLATEAU FOR THE FALL SEASON BECAUSE OUR HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS ARE USING ITS WITH A DIFFERENT START TIME, IT'S PUSHED BACK SOME PRACTICES. >> WOULD YOU MIND GIVING A LITTLE GEOGRAPHY, LIKE WHERE ARE THOSE THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. >> IT'S THE HFC PLATEAU BUT I COULD NOT TELL YOU WHICH FIELD IT IS. >> AND THE FIST ONE WAS. >> HOOSIER ROAD ELEMENTARY. >> IS THE PLATEAU AREA BETWEEN FALL CREEK INTERMEET AND HFC HIGH SCHOOL? >> YES. >> I COULD PICTURE BUT I DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY BUT -- THANK YOU FOR THAT REMINDER. >> NOT WHAT I PICTURE WHEN I THINK OF PLATEAU, THE DEFINITION OF A PLATEAU. >>> ANY OTHER QUESTION? SEEING NONE I WOULD ASK -- SORRY, DO WE HAVE A MOTION? >> MOTION TO APPROVE THE ONE [01:45:03] YEAR EXTENSE OF THE INDIE PREMIER SOCCER CLUB AGREEMENTS. >> I'LL SECOND. >> I HAVE A FIRST AND SICKED. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? CALL FOR THE VOTE PLEASE. [7. Board President] >>> THAT'S IT FOR OUR ACTION ITEMS. WE'RE UP TO SEVEN AND BOARD PRESIDENT'S REPORT. FIRST I WANT TO THANK THE TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF AND BUILDING STAFF AND OUR CAN YOU SAY CODES IN ANS THAT HELPED OUR KIDS GET BACK IN SCHOOL. FROM MY EXPERIENCE IT'S BEEN REALLY SMOOTH AND EVERYBODY SEEMS HAPPEN TO HAVE THE KIDS. I THANK THE TEACHERS FOR TAKING THEM BACK. AND I HOPE EVERYBODY ELSE HAD A GREAT BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK TOO. >>> TAKE THEM BACK. I WANTED TO -- ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS? I'M GOING TO SKIP THAT THEN. I DID WANT THE REMIND EVERYBODY WE HAVE QUITE A FEW MEETINGS COMING UP, WE HAVE A WORK SESSION, THE THIS COMING TUESDAY AND I DON'T HAVE MY CALENDAR SO I DON'T KNOW THE DATE AT IT'S NOT LIVE STREAM BUD WE'LL BE MEETING WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE HCCA AND AN ACADEMIC UPDATE AS WELL ON SOME CHANGES IN OUR CURRICULUM. SO I WOULD ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO COME TO THAT AND HEAR WHAT THAT -- AND THEN THE NEXT MONDAY -- IS THAT CORRECT? TUESDAY AT 5:30, THANK YOU, THERE'S ANOTHER WORK SESSION ON UPDATE ON OUR FUTURE PLANNING INCLUDING SOME DISCUSSION ON FISHERS ELEMENTARY. SO I KNOW WE'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF CORRESPONDENCE FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS ESPECIALLY PARENTS SO WE DID SCHEDULE THAT IN THE EVENING SO HOPEFULLY MORE TEACHERS AND PARENTS CAN BE THERE TO HEAR THE DISCUSSION. WE'RE NOT MAKING A DECISION THAT NIGHT WE'RE NOT DECIDING WHAT DO YOU DO TO DO THE BUILDINGS I DON'T WANT PARENTSES PANICKING DIABETIC I KNOW THERE WERE SOME RUMORS THAT WE WOULD BE VOTING BUT WE'RE NOT, WE'RE JUST GETTING FEEDBACK, BUT PLEASE COME IF YOU CAN. THEN IN SEPTEMBER WE DID HAVE TO MOVE OUR MEETINGS IN SEPTEMBER TO THURSDAYS SO IT HAS BEEN UPDATED ON BOARD DOCS AND IT'S UPDATED ON THE WEBSITE BUT OUR MEETING ON THE SECOND WEDNESDAY NORMALLY WOULD BE A WENT, IT'S THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 15 AND THE SECOND MEETING IN SEPTEMBER IS THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 29 AND THAT WAS DUE FOR SOME SCHEDULING AND SOME OTHER ISSUES WITH DEADLINES THAT WE HAVE BUT I WANTED TO MAYBE EVERYBODY AWARE OF THOSE CHANGES. [8. Superintendent's Report] >>> THANK YOU. ONE OF THE THINGS I WANT TO SAY FIRST IS TO TALK ABOUT HS ENGAGED AND I THINK WE EVER A PICTURE THAT WE'RE GOING TO PUT UP THERE. CLICK ON THAT FOR ME PLEASE. SO IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR AND I WON'T READ ALL OF THIS BUT WE DID START A COHORT LAST YEAR WHICH WAS CALLED HS ENGAGED AND IT WAS AEN THE MONTH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM AIMED AT GIVING OUR PARTICIPANTSES A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR SCHOOLS, EVERYTHING FROM TRANSPORTATION TO FOOD SERVICE TO SERVICES NORTHWEST CLASSROOM, EVERY MORNING INCLUDED AND THEN SOME OTHER THINGS THAT SOME OF OUR STAIRCASE HOLDERS ASKED FOR SO WE HAVE A SECOND COHORT THAT HAS STARTED STARTED THIS YEAR AD THESE ARE THE PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE BEEN SELECTED. WE HAD MORE THAN ONE FIRST AMENDMENT PEOPLE APPLY TO BE PART OF OUR HS ENGAGED PROGRAM AND DO KNOW THEY WERE SELECTED ON AN APPLICATION PROCESS BASSED ON THEIR UNDERSTANDING OFFISH ASKS CHALLENGES THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH THE SCHOOLS AND THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN COMMUNITY AND DESIRE TO ASSIST HFC SCHOOL'S VISION THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. SO THIS IS OUR LIST OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THIS. HS ENGAGED MIGHTS MONTHLY AUGUST THROUGH MAY AND THE PROGRAM TOUCHES ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS FROM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TO ACADEMIC PROGRAMS, STUDENT FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS AND OR. SO THESE ARE THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR ROUND TWO OF HS ENGAGED. [01:50:02] AND IF YOU WILL SHOW THE OTHER PICTURE, I WANTED TO MAYBE YOU AWARE THAT WE HAVE HBCU COLLEGE FAIR AND IT'S SEPTEMBER 8 AND IT IS A PARTNERSHIP THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AT CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL IN THE FRESHMAN CAFETERIA FROM SIX TO IT, SO I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW IT'S OPEN TO ANY STUDENT WHO'S INTERESTED IN GOING OUT TO HEAR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS COLLEGE FAIR, NO ADVANCED REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED SO JUST JOIN US AND IT WILL BE HOSTED BUT CARMEL CLAY SCHOOLS HAMILTON SCHOOLS AND NOBLEVILLE SO IF YOU KNOW ANYBODY WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED PLEASE LET THEM KNOW AND YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND THIS ON OUR WEBSITE FOR SURE. THEN I ALSO WANTED TO SHARE INFORMATION -- I DON'T HAVE THIS FLIER UP THERE BUT I'LL HOLD I WOULD UP, I ALSO WANTED TO SAY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CERTIFIED YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER, WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31, THAT'S WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31 FROM 9 TO 3 HERE IN OUR CENTRAL OFFICE WE WILL HAVE SOME TRAINING FOR YOU PROVIDED BY THE FISHERS HEALTH DEPARTMENT. BUT LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER IS. IT'S AN EIGHT HOUR PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM WHICH INTRODUCES THE PARTICIPANTSES TO THE UNIQUE RISK FACTORS IN MENTAL HEALTH HEALTH PROBLEMS IN ADOLESCENTS AND IT BUILDS ON THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY INTERVENTION. SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN PARTAKING AGAIN THIS IS ON OUR WEBSITE, IT IS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31EN 9 AVERAGE TO 3:00 P.M. HERE IN HFC CENTRAL ALWAYS. SOME OTHER THINGS THAT I WANTED TO SHARE. I WANTED TO JUST SAY THAT AS JULIE HAS ALREADY SHARED THAT WE HAVE HAD A WONDERFUL FIRST START TO SCHOOL. WE THANK OUR TEACHERS, OUR STAFF, OUR PRINCIPALS, ADMINISTRATORS, BUS DRIVERS, PARENTS AND STUDENTS AND BOARD AND COMMUNITY SOMEBODIES FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK THAT I IT TOOK TO GET US OPEN AND READY FOR SCHOOL. I DID WANT THE REMIND US SOMETHING IMPORTANT THAT DEALS WITH FOOD SERVICE, IF YOU RECALL FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS THE U.S.D.A. ALLOWED ALL STUDENTS TO HAVE ACCESS TO SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT NO COST. BECAUSE OF THIS THE DISTRICT RECEIVED SIGNIFICANTLY LESS APPLICATIONS FOR FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH DURING THAT TIME, BUT BEGINNING THIS SCHOOL YEAR I WANT TO REMIND PARENTS THE U.S.D.A. ENDED THE PROGRAM OF FREE LUNCHES AND BREAKFASTS SO IF YOU ARE A FAMILY WHO BELIEVES THAT YOU NEED SOME KIND OF ASSISTANCE FOR FREE OR REDUCED MEMES PLEASE GO ON OUR WEBSITE AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY. WE KNOW THERE'S A VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS THAT ARE COMING IN AND DUE TO SOME DELAY IN PROCESSING THAT WE ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO GET COMPLICATIONED COMPLETELIED AND SHOULD YOU BE APPROVED IT WILL BE RELATE RELATE ROW ACTIVE SO IF THERE ANY SUMMING UP OF FINANCIAL MONEY THAT WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING WITH WE WILL DO IT AT THAT TIMEND TIME BUT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO BACK EC DAY YOU APPLIED. >>> DR. STOKES CAN I ADD THAT TO THE THAT? SO PEOPLE KNOW TOO THAT IT'S NOT JUST FOOD IT WILL ALSO GO TO HAVE TEXT BOOK AND FEES AND IT CAN GO ONE STEP FURTHER FOR OR COUNTY AND CITY AND STATE. >> I KNOW THAT SOME OF THE RULES HAVE CHANGED AROUND THAT, DO YOU MEAN TO CHIME ON THAT FOR ME PLEASE. >> THE FREE AND REDUCED LUMPING APPLICATION DO HAVE AN IMPACT ON TEXT BOOK RENTAL BUT IN TERM OF THE GRANTS AND FUNDING PIECES LIKE OUR TILE ONE I BELIEVE THAT IS NOW BASED ON THE DIRECT CERTIFICATION NUMBER SO FREE AND REDUCENED LUNCH APPLICATIONS DON'T AFFECT OUR DIRECT CERT NUMBER, THE PERCENTAGE WE USE AND I'M POINTING AT DR. KEGLY BECAUSE MOST OF THOSE GRANTS ARE IN HISS AREA. THE DIRECT CERT IS BASICALLY PEOPLE WHO DIRECT QUALIFIED AID FROM THE STATE AND THE APPLICATION DON'T COUNT FOR THOSE ANSWER LAIR -- [01:55:15] >>> I WAS UNDERSTAND WHEN THEY FILL OUT THE FORM, IT IS ALSO CAN BE SENT OFF TO BE CONSIDERED FOR HEALTH CARE, I KNOW THAT THOSE -- IT'S ON OUR THING, I HAD A FRIEND THAT WAS OVER AND GOING THROUGH IT AND SHE WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO FILL THAT OUTS AND IT'S ON OUR ONLINE -- >> ADDITIONAL AID FOR FAMILIES SO -- >> SO EXTERNAL TO US SO I THOUGHT YOU WERE REFERRING TO FREE AND REDUCED. >>> I'M JUST ASKING THEN TO CONFIRM OR JUST TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT WHEN THEY FILL THAT OUT THEY HAVE THAT OPTION FOR OTHER RESOURCES. >> . >> ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. OKAY, BEFORE I CLOSE THE NIGHT THOUGH I DID WANT TO TALK ABOUT TO GO ON RECORD SHARING. SO I WANTED TO GO ON RECORD THIS EVENING AND REITERATE THAT WE IN HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN HAVE NOT, SHALL NOT; WILL NOT AND WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE TEACHING OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY OR WHO SOME CALL CRT. THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN THE TARGET OF SUCH CLAIMS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW. WITH CLASS BACK IN SESSION UNFORTUNATELY IT APPEARS THAT THIS NARRATIVE IS ONCE AGAIN BEING SHARED. I PRIDE MYSELF ON BEING OPEN AND TRANSPARENT WITH STUDENTS, STAFF AND TAMS AND MANY OF YOU KNOW THAT I AM. WHEN ASKED LAST YEAR ABOUT WHAT WE ARE TEACHING, WE POSTED CRIBELLAR RESOURCES FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS AND WE PRESENTED IT IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU, OUR FAMILY, OUR COMMUNITIES COULD SEE HOW IT MEETS THE INDIANA ACADEMIC STANDARDS. THESE MATERIALS ARE UPDATED AS NEEDED AND ALL AVAILABLE ON A DISTRICT WEBSITE AND IN FACT DUE TO OUR RECENT ADOPTION OF LANGUAGE ARTS AND INFORMATION WITH REGARDS TO OUR LITERACY CURRICULUM WE MADE ADDITIONAL UPDATES SO WE UPDATE THE WEBSITE AS NEEDED. AND FEW WHY THINK ABOUT IT OUR CHARGE IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WHO MEET THE STATE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS SO IN DOING SO I WANT TO USE A CLASS AS OUR HIGH SCHOOLS WHICH IS A MAN DATED COURSE TO BE OFFERED BY THE,DOE AS LOCATIVE COURSE AND THAT MEANS STUDENTS DOUGHNUTS NEED TO TAKE THE COURSE BUT THEY CAN TAKE THE COURSE IF THEY SO CHOOSE. ONE LENGTHED COURSE IS CALLEDETH ETHNIC STUDIES. SO LET ME BE MORE CLEAR, PART OF THE CURRICULUM MAN DATED BY THE STATE OVERARCH FOR THIS COURSE IS THAT STUDENTS EXPLORE WAYS THAT RACE AND RACISM HAVE IMPACTED PEEP'S LIVES. WE DO THIS BY EXPOSING STUDENTS TO DIFFERENT VOICES AND AUTHORS WHO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH RACE AND STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE. KEEP IN MIND NOT ALL CLADSES ARE DESIGNED FOR EVERY STUDENT. THIS IS AN ELECTIVE COURSE. BUT IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR DIVERSE POPULATION THROUGH A ROBUSTER CATALOG OF OURSELVES ESPECIALLY IN OUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND LET ME REITERATE, THIS IS A COURSE THAT THE IDOE SAYS THAT WE SHOULD BE OFFERING AND WE DO. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS I JUST WANT THE REMIND COMMUNITY, PARENTS AND TEACHERS IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT INSTRUCTION THAT'S BEING GIVEN TO YOUR STUDENTS PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR TEACHER OR THE BUILDING ADMINISTRATION AND THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO WORK WITH YOU. S ONCE AGAIN I WANT TO REITERATE THATS THERE IS LANGUAGE OUT THERE AND THERE ARE CLAIMS THAT WE ARE TEACHING CR TEXT AND WE ARE NOT CON TONING ANY TEACHING OF CRT. THANK YOU AND THAT IS THE END OF MY SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE BUT I DO WANT TO HAVE US LOOK AT OUR NEXT GENTLED FOR THE SEPTEMBER BOARD MEETING. AND I I DON'T WANT TO READ THAT DO YOU BUT IF YOU SCROLL DOWN A LITTLE BIT I DO WANT YOU TO SEE THERE'S INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING SOME JUST BE AWARE THAT WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND RIGHT NOW WE'RE PLANNING ON HAVING SOME INFORMATION AND IN [02:00:02] PUT ABOUT LANTERN ROAD, THE LANTERN ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE. SO THOSE ARE TWO THINGS THAT I DID WANT TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION. >> CAN WE GET AN ENROLLMENT UPDATE? >> SURE. WITH THAT WE ARE AT THE END OF OUR AGENDA, SO I WILL * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
