[2. Action Items/Public Comments will be accepted per Board Policy (B05.07)]

>> OKAY. >> THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND WILL START WITH THE WORLD LANGUAGE RESOURCE PRESENTATION WITH

SHELL LOTS. >> GOOD MORNING.

>> HERE WE GO. I KNOW THIS MORNING WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE ACTION ON THE WORLD LANGUAGE RESOURCE ADOPTION AND WE PUT A PAUSE ON THE SPANISH ADOPTION AND WOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH THE FRENCH AND GERMAN.

I WANTED TO CLEAR UP SOME CONFUSION THAT MIGHT BE CIRCULATING OUT THERE REGARDING SPANISH.

SPANISH, THEY CURRENTLY DO HAVE RESOURCES THAT THEY COULD CONTINUE TO USE. HOWEVER, THE INTENT IS TO ADOPT A RESOURCE FOR SPANISH AND TEACHERS DID VOICE THEIR THIS Ã THEIR VOICE ON WHICH RESOURCE THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE.

AND SO THE NUMBER ONE RESOURCE FOR SPANISH, WE WOULD LIKE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH AFTER THE INSURER THAT IT ALIGNS WITH THE DISTRICT CREATED RESOURCE THAT WE DISCUSSED LAST TIME.

THAT'S WHY WE ARE PAUSING BRIEFLY TO ENSURE THAT THOSE PIECES THAT ARE IN THE DISTRICT CREATED CURRICULUM ARE IN ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT THE NEW RESOURCE SUGGESTS.

I WANTED TO INDICATE THAT THIS MORNING.

>> THANK YOU. THE DISTRICT MAY STAY, BUT WILL BRING IN THE NEW ONE PRODUCE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WILL WORK TOGETHER.> THEY WILL WORK TOGETHER.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS USING THAT DISTRICT CREATED AND ONE OF OUR HOSPITALS THAT ARE USING THAT.

>> THANK YOU. CAN YOU CLARIFY WOULD YOU SAY DISTRICT CREATED, WITH THAT DISTRICT CREATED WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING, IS THERE TANGIBLE HARD BOOKS THAT THEY

ARE FOLLOWING WITH THE PROGRAM? >> IF IT'S DISTRICT CREATED, THERE IS NOT A BOOK WITH IT. T IS TALL BASICALLY IT'S A FRAMEWORK THAT IS IN A POWERPOINT FORM THAT TEACHERS USE AS A GUIDE THAT ALIGNS WITH THE STATE STANDARDS THAT THEY'VE CREATED. AT THIS ARE TEACHERS USED RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THAT INSTRUCTION.

THAT DOCUMENT WITH INSTRUCTION. >> OF FOLLOW-UP TO THAT IS DO YOU RECALL HOW LONG THIS SPECIFIC PROGRAM HAS BEEN BEING USED ALREADY? HAS IT BEEN SIX YEARS OR ONE YEAR OR JUST? 18 MONTHS AGO, BUT NEVER TRULY

ROLLED OUT? >> THE DISTRICT CREATED THE CURRICULUM AND WAS CREATED FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, DURING THE 1920 SCHOOL YEAR. IT WAS COMPLETED IN FEBRUARY 2020 AND NINE COVID HEAD. IT DIDN'T GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO ROLLOUT. HOWEVER, THEY THOUGHT ACCESS TO THE CURRENT CURRICULUM RESOURCES THAT WERE ADOPTED THE S6 YEARS PRIOR.

OME SCHOOLS WERE STILL USING THAT AS WELL.

>> THE RESOURCES THAT WERE BEING PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED?

THOSE ARE STILL ACCESSIBLE. >> WE ARE ONLY TALKING THE WANT OF BEGINNING SPANISH, CORRECT? OR IS THAT WORSE THIS ALL THE SPANISH? IT'S DISTRICT CREATED?

>> NO, JUST LEVEL ONE. >> CAN YOU RECALL RENAME OR WHATEVER THEY ARE USING FOR SPANISH, THREE, FOUR, OR HONEST

SPANISH. >> THEY ARE USING CURRENT RESOURCES THAT I DON'T KNOW THE NAMES OF THOSE.

THEY ARE USING WHATEVER THEY BEEN USING FOR THE PAST 3 TO 5 YOU KNOW, 3 TO 5 YEARS PRE-COVID.

>> JUST ANOTHER QUICK FOLLOW-UP TO THAT, IS THERE A REASON WHY WE ARE NOT JUST USING THAT PROGRAM AND THE LITTLE ONE?

>> YOU MEAN THE CURRENT CURRICULUM THEY ARE USING? I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT.

I DID HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND THEY DID INDICATE THAT THE OLDER CURRICULUM THAT IS IN SCHOOLS CURRENTLY DID NOT ALIGN WITH THE NEW DIRECTION FROM THE IDEA TO MOVE TOWARD A MORE PROFICIENCY-BASED INSTRUCTION.

[00:05:02]

AND SO, THAT'S WHY THE COMMITTEE WAS FORMED TO REWRITE LEVEL I. IT'S IN A RESPONSE TO THE CHANGES FROM FULL AND IDEAL WEIGHT. THAT IS WHY I THINK LEVEL I WAS A RESPONSE TO THAT. AND THEN I GOT PAUSE.

SO, NOW WE ARE LOOKING FOR RESOURCES THAT WILL ALIGN WITH THAT. AND WE THINK WE HAVE ONE THAT IS SELECTED. WE JUST HAVE TO SPEND A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME MAKING SURE THAT IT DOES.

>> MY LAST QUESTION. I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY ELSE HAS ONE. THE LAST QUESTION, SINCE IT'S DISTRICT CREATED, OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO RELY ON OUR PROFESSIONALS AND TALK THEIR LANGUAGE AND STRUCTURES ARE TEACHERS. THEY HAVE ALL THE INPUT IN THIS. DID ANYBODY GET BROUGHT IN FROM OUTSIDE TO HELP CREATE THE PROGRAM? OR WAS IT JUST OUR ÃÃWORLD LANGUAGE EXCUSE ME.EADERS THAT HELPED TO CREATE THE PROGRAM AND THAT WHO APPROVED IT? SUPERINTENDENTS? WERE JUST THE DEPARTMENT HEAD SAID THIS IS GOING TO WORK.

LET'S TRY THIS AND WE WILL ROLL IT OUT.

>> FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, THIS REPRESENTATION FROM ALL JUNIOR HIGHS AND BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS ON THE COMMITTEE.

THAT ROUTE THIS CURRICULUM. THEY USED THE GUIDANCE.

I DON'T IF ANYBODY CAME IN TO SUPPORT THAT EFFORT.

BUT, THEY DID USE THOSE TOOLS AS GUIDANCE FOR THAT.

AND AS FAR AS IT BEING APPROVED, MATT, I DON'T KNOW THERE'S APPROVAL PROCESS FOR THAT.

>> I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THAT THE PERMISSION TO MEET AND COME TOGETHER. THEY WOULD'VE DONE THAT AND THEY WOULD'VE BROUGHT THAT BY ME.

BUT, THEY WERE ALL IN ALIGNMENT ON WHAT WAS THERE AND HELP MATCHED UP WITH THE STATEMENT AT THE TIME.

>> OKAY. THANK YOU MATT.

>> WHY DID WE DECIDE TO CREATE LEVEL I? WITHIN OUR DISTRICT? WHY DID WE JUST GO OUT AND ADOPT A PROGRAM THAT 30 OUT THERE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN? MUST'VE MISSED IF WE TALKED ABOUT THAT.

>> YES, I THINK THAT'S BECAUSE ONE APPLE CAME OUT WITH THE NEW GUIDANCE, WHICH IS THE GOVERNING BODY FOR WORLD LANGUAGE WHEN IT CAME OUT WITH THEIR GUIDANCE, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT A LOT OF TEXTBOOK COMPANIES HAD MADE THAT SHIFT YET. AND SO, LITTLE SCHOOLS TO DO THIS PREDATED CRAFTER AND CURRICULUM FOR LEVEL I. I THINK

THAT'S A RESPONSE TO THAT. >> OKAY.

>> I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION FROM A BOARD MEMBER ON THE FRENCH AND GERMAN. THOSE WITH TWO WE ARE WORKING

TO IMPROVE TODAY PUT. >> I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO IMPROVE THE FRENCH AND GERMAN CURRICULUM IS PRESENTED. WORLD LANGUAGE RESOURCE MATERIALS IS PRESENTED. AND I DON'T KNOW IF I NEED TO SAY, BUT NO. YES.

>> I WILL SECOND. >> I THE FIRST AND THE SECOND.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

>> IT'S WANT THANK YOU FOR YOUR DILIGENCE ON THE SPANISH AND TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE SURE WITH HIS ALIGNED AND WE'RE DOING WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO MAKE SURE OUR BEGINNING SPANISH KIDS ARE GETTING WHAT THEY NEED.

I APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH. >> THANK YOU.

>> I'LL ASK JANET TO CALL FOR THE VOTE.

>> BRAD BOYER? >> YES.

>> BILLY CHAMBERS? >> YES.

>> SARAH DON SPOCK?> SUZANNE THOMAS?> YES.

>> FOR EQUIVOCATION, JUST GERMAN?

>> AND FRENCH. YES.

AND I'M A YES. MOTION.

>> SORRY. >> YOU FINE.

>> THIS MOTION PASSES 7Ä. >> NEXT TO 0.20 RESOURCE.

>> GOOD MORNING MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DOCTOR STOKES.

I'M HERE TO REVISIT THE LITERACY RESOURCE RECOMMENDATION. AND SO, I AM HAPPY TO ENTERTAIN ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR INFORMATION THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE OR NEED. AND BRING FOR THE

RECOMMENDATION. >> I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU, AND WE'VE GOTTEN QUITE A FEW EMAILS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND I'M REALLY GLAD THAT THEY ARE ENGAGED.

OR IF THEY ASK ANY QUESTIONS. AND THE PARENTS ARE BEING VERY ENGAGED IN THIS PROCESS. AND IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO RESPOND TO ALL THOSE QUESTIONS. THEY REALLY DETAIL THE ANSWERS.

>> SURE, OF COURSE. >> ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS?

>> SO, THE NEW CURRICULUM INTO READING IS ÃÃCOMES FROM THE FOUNDATIONAL OR FOUNDATIONAL PIECE THAT WOULD BE SCIENCE OF READING?R BALANCED LITERACY? AND I MAY NOT HAVE THOSE ALL CORRECT, BUT IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING WHERE WE'VE BEEN IS REALLY BEEN BALANCED LITERACY.

>> SURE. >> WHERE WE ARE TRYING TO MOVE TO IS THE FOUNDATION OF SCIENCE AND READING.

>> YES. THAT IS THE CURRENT LITERATURE.

[00:10:02]

THAT IS THE CURRENT PRISON THAT IS USED.

IT IS TRANSITIONING TO SCIENCE OF LEARNING.

SO THAT REALLY CAN BE OFFERING STRUCTURE TO APPROACHES ACROSS THE CURRICULUM. WHETHER IT'S IN MATH OR SCIENCE OR READING OR WRITING.HE IDEA THAT SOME STUDENTS MAY NEED A MORE STRUCTURED OR SCAFFOLDED APPROACH TO LEARNING. YES.

IN BALANCED LITERACY MIGHT MEAN THE WAY YOU ORGANIZE YOUR DAY.

LIKE, I HAVE WRITING, TIME, I HAVE A PHONICS TIME.

I MET A READING TIME OR SMALL GROUP TIME.

WERE REDIRECTING STUDENTS WHEN MISCUE OR EVER AS THEY READING.

TO BE CLEAR, BALANCED LITERACY PERSON TEACHERS COULD MEAN MY WHOLE LITERACY BLOCK. WHICH WOULD REQUIRE ABOUT 90 DID MINUTE LITERACY BLOCK. HOW ABOUT THAT REDIRECT STUDENTS WHEN THEY ARE HAVING A MISCUE IN THE READING.

SO, THE SCIENCE OF LEARNING IS MORE ABOUT THE MISCUE STUDENTS ARE READING. AND JUST KIND OF BROKEN DOWN SIMPLY. IT MEANS IF A STUDENT HAS AN ERROR, A MISCUE, YOU WERE REDIRECTING THEM TO A VERY STRATEGIC WAY TO SOLVE THE WORLD.

WITH SKILLS THEY HAVE LEARNED IN THEIR PHONICS ROUTINES.

AND A SECONDARY TO THAT MIGHT BE REDIRECTION WITH CONTEXT OR JUST WHAT MAKES SENSE WITH THE STORY.

OR EVEN AN IMAGE FROM THE STORY.

>> OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I WOULD LIKE TO ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE.

>> MOTION TO APPROVE THE LITERACY RESOURCES K-6

PRESENTED. >> I WILL SECOND.

HAVING A FIRST END SECOND, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

>> YES.> I WOULD ASK JANICE TO CALL FOR THE VOTE.

>> SUZANNE THOMAS? >> NO.

>> SIR PARKS REESE? >> CONCERNED ANSPACH?

>> YES. >> TRULY CHAMBERS?

>> YES. >> BRAD BOYER?

>> YES. >> MICHELLE FULL HEART?

>> YES. >> AND I'M A YES.

>> MOTION PASSES 6Ä. THANK YOU.

>> THINK. >> OKAY, AND OUR LAST ITEM IS 2.03. THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE CONTRACT FOR RIVERSIDE TENNIS COURT PLACEMENT.

>> GOOD MORNING. >> GOOD MORNING.

>> JUST TO RESTATE WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

WE HAD TO TENNIS COURT PLACEMENT ON THE RIVERSIDE.

FIRST HAD TO DO WITH BUILDING THE TENNIS COURT AND CHOOSING THE ASPHALT. WHICH IS WHAT ALL THE OTHER TENNIS COURTS ARE MADE OF IN OUR DISTRICT.

AND THAT BID CAME IN AT 1,018,000.

AND THE SECOND BID WAS USING CONCRETE.

WHICH CAME IN AT $1,118,597. AND THE ISSUE WAS THE CONCRETE HAS A 10 YEAR WARRANTY AND THIS WAS A TWO-YEAR WARRANTY.

THE BUDGET WAS A $1 MILLION. SO, THINK THE QUESTION WAS COULD WE AFFORD TO MOVE TO THE CONCRETE?

HAT'S WHERE WE ARE. >> I THINK YOU JUST REVERSED IT. BUT, WE UNDERSTOOD.HE ASPHALT WAS THE 1000. OR EXCUSE ME, THE 1,000,018 FOR

AND THE CONCRETE WAS 191 78. >> THANK YOU.

>> OVER THE LIFE OF THIS, GENERALLY SPEAKING, LET'S OF THE NEXT 20 YEARS, WE WILL HAVE THIS.

X PLUS AND MINUS A FEW. >> CONCRETE REQUIRES LESS MAINTENANCE AND FROM WHAT WE'VE HEARD, THE TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP OVER THE LIFE OF A CONCRETE IS GENERALLY LESS THAN

ASPHALT DUE TO THE REMAINS. >> YES, THANK YOU.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION. >> WAIT A MINUTE.

THAT'S ASPHALT DOWN THERE. MOTION TO APPROVE ÃÃMOTION TO APPROVE THE CONCRETE BID TO REPLACE THE TENNIS COURTS AT RIVERSIDE INTERMEDIATE AND JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AS

PRESENTED. >> I WILL SECOND.

>> HAVING A FIRST AND A SECOND TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT.

CCED WITH THE POST-TENSION CONFLICT.
